The mist dissipated, revealing Naruto and Zabuza standing amidst the flames, their legs burning.
Naruto gritted his teeth and poured water over his wounds. The cool sensation brought some relief, dulling the sharp pain. He then grabbed an apple, took a few bites to distract himself, and focused his gaze on Zabuza.
Zabuza, unable to defend in time, had only managed to use a Water Release technique to shield his upper body. His legs hadn’t been protected, and as the water flowed down, it extinguished the flames—but the damage was far worse than Naruto’s.
As Naruto tended to his injuries, Sasuke approached and activated his Sharingan to assess ✪ Nоvеlіgһt ✪ (Official version) the situation. Relieved to find that the injuries weren’t severe, he exhaled deeply. Though he understood Naruto’s plan, he still felt guilty since it was his Fire Release technique that caused the burns.
Zabuza dispelled his Water Release and glared at the two kids, roaring, “I admit you two are strong, but don’t forget—I’m the Demon of the Mist, Zabuza!”
With that, he charged forward, wielding his massive cleaver-like sword.
Cornered but still ferocious, the injured Zabuza radiated an overwhelming killing intent, his aura forming the illusion of a monstrous figure behind him!
This was Zabuza’s first active assault, and its intensity forced Naruto and Sasuke into a purely defensive stance for the moment.
Because they had earned his respect as worthy opponents, Zabuza deemed them deserving of facing his full offense—such was his straightforward nature.
However, the burns on his legs were taking their toll. While his attacks remained fierce, his speed was noticeably slower.
Naruto pulled out his mithril pickaxe and struggled to block the relentless blows.
Zabuza didn’t care if his giant sword got damaged—it could always be repaired later.
Clang! Sparks flew as Naruto blocked another strike, feeling the immense force travel through the pickaxe into his body and then into the ground, cracking the stone bridge beneath them.
Zabuza swung his blade horizontally, aiming to bisect Naruto.
But Naruto’s foot caught in a crack in the stone, momentarily immobilizing him. Recalling a forgotten skill from before, Naruto dropped flat onto the ground just in time. The blade whizzed past overhead, slicing off a few strands of his blond hair.
A second later, and Naruto would’ve been sporting a buzz cut when meeting Hinata next, he thought with a shudder.
Of course, he quickly realized that if he’d been any later, Sasuke would’ve ended up carrying his severed head to Hinata’s grave and saying something like, “Your wife and daughter are now under my care.”
Still lying prone, Naruto heard the chirping sound of birds nearby and smiled. Kakashi was finally wrapping up his fight and coming to assist.
Glancing toward Kakashi’s direction, Naruto confirmed that lightning chakra was indeed crackling in his sensei’s hand.
Wait… the sound wasn’t coming from Kakashi?
Looking up, Naruto saw Sasuke charging forward, a ball of lightning in his hand, piercing straight toward Zabuza’s back.
“Chidori!” the cool guy shouted dramatically, as if naming his technique was more important than actually using it.
At this moment, all Naruto wanted to do was slap the back of Sasuke’s neck while repeating, “You’re power-scaling again! You’re power-scaling AGAIN!”
Seriously, Zabuza had just gone all-out, and here comes Sasuke with another burst of strength. It was enough to make anyone despair.
But no matter how many thoughts ran through Naruto’s mind, according to Naruto Physics, thinking doesn’t affect the battle.
Getting up, Naruto wrapped his arms around Zabuza’s arm and locked his legs around it, preparing to execute the legendary Scissor Takedown.
Zabuza truly felt a sense of despair. He sensed the powerful attack approaching from behind, but Naruto’s grip prevented him from dodging in time. His only option was to deal with Naruto first and then evade the incoming strike.
Raising his free hand, Zabuza prepared to slam Naruto into the ground.
However, empowered by the Chidori, Sasuke moved faster and reached Zabuza’s back.
Just as Sasuke was about to deliver the finishing blow, a wall of ice rose beside Zabuza, and a figure leapt out to block the attack.
Sasuke’s hand pierced through the interference, but seeing Naruto about to be slammed into the ground, he gritted his teeth, infused even more chakra into his palm, and dragged Haku along as he thrust toward Zabuza once more.
Thanks to Haku’s intervention, Zabuza managed to dodge partially, though a chunk of flesh was torn from his side.
The intense electric current numbed Zabuza’s body momentarily.
BAM!
Naruto was still smashed into the ground—a clear reminder that Newton’s laws of inertia applied even in the world of Naruto.
Zabuza, whose body was paralyzed by the electricity, collapsed along with Naruto.
Suppressing the urge to cough up blood, Naruto grabbed Zabuza’s hand and twisted it forcefully.
Crack.
He stood up, walked over to Zabuza’s other arm, and repeated the motion.
Crack.
Finally, he picked up the massive cleaver sword and pressed it against Zabuza’s neck. “Zabuza, you’ve lost. Abandon your mission—he can still be saved!”
There was an unspoken rule among shinobi outside of wartime: missions could be abandoned without killing, or else the mortality rate among ninjas would have wiped them all out long ago.
There was no personal grudge between them; it was all business.
Naruto didn’t want to kill either of them. After all, he wasn’t here for the mission—he was here for the fight. Besides, he had been moved by these two characters in his previous life.
Unlike those memes where someone says, “You moved me so much, I decided to run you over with a car!”
No, because they moved him, he chose not to kill them.
Of course, this decision wouldn’t impact his life, and letting them go posed no threat to him.
Zabuza glanced at Haku beside him, then at the blade resting on his neck. He felt like crying—and laughing.
Crying for Haku.
Laughing because the Demon of the Mist, Zabuza, had been defeated by two freshly graduated brats. It made the world seem utterly absurd.
“Heh… hahaha… I lost…” The owner of the Executioner’s Blade surrendered under the weight of his own weapon. Wasn’t that ironic?
Both arms dislocated, legs burned, and a blade at his throat. With Kakashi arriving soon, what choice did he have but to surrender?
Most importantly, there was still hope for survival.
Sasuke walked over, smiling. He knew how strong their opponent was, yet they emerged victorious. The thrill of challenging a formidable foe and emerging triumphant was exhilarating. [Just wait, Itachi. Your turn is coming!]
Sasuke felt a slight swell of pride within him.
Meanwhile, Naruto approached Haku, who lay unconscious with his mask still intact. Removing the mask revealed a delicate face, serene and beautiful like a maiden’s—though the trail of blood leaking from the corner of his mouth slightly marred the aesthetic.
Still, it was undeniable: Haku was a bishōnen.
Naruto placed the boy’s arm near his mouth, pried it open, and controlled his bite.
At first, the idea of doing this to a male made him feel awkward, but then he remembered the concept of “bishōnen” and some comments from certain group chats.
Bishōnen? Even better!
Whatever, consider it repayment for being moved.
Kakashi also arrived shortly afterward.
Naruto observed his labored breathing, clearly indicating significant chakra depletion. He already imagined the outcome if Haku hadn’t intervened earlier: Haku severely wounded, Kakashi drained.
Still evenly matched—I’m genuinely impressed by you guys. Strong against the strong, weak against the weak.
Then he glanced at Sasuke, who was grinning smugly. What are you so happy about? I controlled the entire fight, and you took all the kills. Two takedowns, both yours.
These ADCs who hog all the glory without acknowledging the support’s contribution really get on my nerves. Acting like they carried the whole team when they barely scratched the surface.
Naruto wasn’t worried about Zabuza suddenly retaliating. Even at his weakest, Kakashi could handle a nearly incapacitated Zabuza with broken limbs.
While Naruto’s thoughts spiraled, Haku soon regained consciousness. His first sight was Zabuza, alive and well, which made him smile.
It was a breathtakingly beautiful smile.
Naruto quickly reminded himself: He’s a guy. He’s a guy. I have Hinata.
A man this beautiful might only be rivaled by Chengxin, the male consort of the Tang Dynasty prince.
In the end, under the watchful eyes of Team Seven and Tazuna, Haku expressed his gratitude. Supporting each other, he and Zabuza slowly walked away.
Haku carried the Executioner’s Blade, but Naruto figured keeping half of it as a trophy was enough.
Tazuna didn’t fully understand how enemies who had been fighting to the death moments ago could reconcile so easily.
But that was the way of the shinobi. They risked their lives for missions, but once the task was done, they were just ordinary people.
Should shinobi lack emotions?
If a shinobi claims to be emotionless, wouldn’t that make them akin to artificial intelligence? And even AI has feelings, right, T-800?
Naruto didn’t dwell on such philosophical musings. He was here to fight, not because he considered himself a shinobi.
His goal was singular: to slay gods.
The Ōtsutsuki clan called themselves divine beings.
But Naruto had heard a phrase once:
[As long as they have HP bars, even gods can be killed.]
