Chapter 71: Chapter 71: A Debt Paid Across Time
"Eighty for the big hammer, forty for the small one…"
As the golden thunder weakened, so did Alan's aura. The power contained within the armor was nearly exhausted. Ares, however, was lying in a deep pit on the ground, dying, breathing more than he was exhaling. It seemed he would never be able to get up and fight again.
Finally, the last bit of strength was released with the last hammer strike, and Alan walked limply to the ground. "Such a high-intensity battle is too difficult for a mentally ill person like me."
The crisis from the God of War was successfully resolved.
After watching the battle for more than an hour, Thor and Diana had recovered a lot and went forward to check the situation in the pit.
"My hammer!"
"My sword!"
The two of them felt no joy at all, but instead looked worried. The fusion of their divine weapons was more painful than death. In particular, Thor treated Mjolnir as his own son. When Alan had picked up the hammer, he had felt a deep sense of betrayal. The Sword of Vulcan was a sacred object of the Amazons, an artifact that Zeus had specifically ordered Vulcan to prepare for Diana, so it was of great significance.
"Who wants your things?" Alan raised the long-handled hammer with disdain and silently said "Decompose" in his heart. Suddenly, the lightning and flames separated and returned to their original forms. He returned the property to its original owners. The armor on Alan's body was covered with spiderweb-like cracks. In the blink of an eye, the entire suit shattered like glass. After all, the Sixth Metal was not able to control the fusion of the three forces. The set of armor seemed to have completed its mission and had turned into powder when it shattered.
"My battle suit!" Seeing his carefully crafted armor gone, Alan was so angry that he grabbed his hair. He walked up to Ares and slapped him twice in the face with the excess fabric from his crotch.
"I will take the prisoner back to the Council of Gods to report. We will meet again in the human world when we have time." Thor grabbed Ares, whose life or death was unknown, and raised Mjolnir high. The next second, the Rainbow Bridge descended and took them both away.
The matter was settled, and Alan and Diana rushed back to the Allied-controlled area overnight. After some twists and turns, they returned to the commando camp. After the loss of Captain America, several founders of S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to invite Diana to become the new captain.
In the meeting room, all eyes turned to the parties concerned, waiting for their consent.
"I accept," Diana said. After much consideration, she had decided to stay in human society. After all, Paradise Island was too closed off and not suitable for her growth.
"I fully agree with this." Alan sat in his chair, pulled his legs up, and raised his hands.
"Nanaue agrees as well." Nanaue made the same move.
At this time, Carter raised a question. "What name do we use to publicize it?"
"How about Pokémon?" Alan suggested, raising his hand.
Not very good. Do you want to make the Nazis laugh to death?
"I think Wonder Woman is more suitable," Diana mused.
"For every decision, fate has already secretly marked a price." Alan pushed up the nonexistent monocle on his right eye and deliberately put on an unfathomable expression.
As soon as the meeting ended, Alan quietly approached Diana.
"What's up?" Diana looked at the hesitant Alan and couldn't help but raise her eyebrows, wondering what he was going to do now.
"Can I ask you a favor?" Alan shyly turned his face away, which to those who didn't know, seemed like a confession.
"Tell me what you want to say," Diana waited patiently.
"Can you help take care of Nanaue when I'm not around? I think he has something wrong with his brain," Alan pointed at his head and said with a look of disgust.
"…" You say that as if there's nothing wrong with your own brain.
Diana agreed immediately. "I can promise you that. Can you tell me why?"
"Don't ask. If you ask, just know that I loved you," Alan said solemnly.
"Forget it. Just pretend I didn't ask." Rather than communicate with a psychopath, Diana would rather go to the battlefield and kill the enemy.
Suddenly, Alan straightened his back, his expression becoming serious.
What?! Diana frowned slightly, staring, a strange feeling coming over her.
"Your Highness…" Alan bowed. "I am leaving now."
"This retreat will last a lifetime."
"I withdraw."
Alan hunched over and left the room. When Diana reacted, she ran out the door to look for him. "You're crazy!" The echo lingered in the corridor for a long time.
New York City.
In the evening, the workers were rushing home after work. At the end of a busy day, going home to enjoy the dinner prepared by his wife and spending time with his children would make the hard-working general public feel that their efforts were worth it, and at the same time, they would gain a sense of spiritual accomplishment.
In a single apartment in a Brooklyn neighborhood, the door was pushed open from the outside. A sturdy man walked in. In the dim room, a figure sat on the sofa with their back to the door.
"Peggy, I'm home." The man called softly, and the figure trembled. "I came back from the future to fulfill our promise."
As he spoke, Steve had already walked behind the figure and placed his hands gently on their shoulders. That's right, the man was Captain America, who had been frozen in the Arctic Ocean not long ago.
"Don't talk. Just kiss me."
"Alan!" Steve withdrew his hands with a look of disgust and looked at Alan, who was wearing a wig and Peggy Carter's pajamas. He suddenly felt nauseous, as if a swarm of flies had taken up residence in his mouth.
Alan took off his wig and pajamas and said proudly, "Steve, I knew you would come back, so I kept waiting for you here on purpose. Are you surprised? Are you surprised? Are you happy?"
"What the hell is this?" Steve casually moved a chair and sat down. "Any supervillain in the future would wish they had two more legs when they see you."
"Hate it. I'm not as good as you say." Alan's eyes suddenly widened and he asked, "I haven't messed with any supervillains in Gotham. The last time I saw you, you called Batman a sissy during a video call."
(TL: AH… Finally…)
"I roughly understand your current time anchor point," Steve said clearly. The time of his return was much later, and Alan was not yet in a state where he could control the role of a supervillain at will. This time, when he had traveled through time, he hadn't wanted to change the existing history, so he hadn't contacted S.H.I.E.L.D. first, but had instead found Carter first. Based on his understanding of the plot, Alan had guessed that Steve would definitely go back to his old lover first after traveling through time, so he had waited here.
"Let me guess how you got back." Alan asked with great interest, "Pym particles?"
"No."
"The Time Stone?"
"Wrong."
"The Time Variance Authority?"
"No."
"Have you joined the Time Lord organization?"
"Never heard of it."
All his guesses were incorrect, and Alan couldn't think of any other way to travel through time.
"It's the time machine built by Reed Richards," Steve gave the answer proudly.
"Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four! How could I forget the smartest man in the universe?" Alan angrily threw the Cosmic Cube to Steve and said arrogantly, "This is for you. I'm going home." Before returning, Alan couldn't help but ask curiously, "I remember you played the Human Torch. Do you two look alike?"
"…"
Snap!
Alan disappeared out of thin air.
Steve looked at the Cosmic Cube in his hand and knew it was the carrier of the Space Stone. He smiled bitterly and said, "You must have given it to me because you don't know how to use it." He was all too familiar with Alan's character. Things that could be used were tucked between his buttocks and armpits, and things that were not needed were thrown to others.
Meow…
Suddenly, a cat's meow caught his attention. At the window, a calico cat was scratching the glass with its paw.
"Goose!?" Steve opened the window, picked up the cat, and carefully identified it. He confirmed that it was the calico cat from his memory. He wondered to himself, "Shouldn't you, the Flerken, stay with Alan? Did you travel through time together?"
Puff!
An octopus-like tentacle extended from the calico cat's mouth and spat out a lump of dark liquid.
"Oh, hell no! Symbiote!" Before Steve could dodge, the symbiote had already entered his body. In less than a second, it had enveloped his entire body.
