Chapter 272: Fundamentals of Alchemy
"Very well. You are now my disciple, Lucas Garde. And as such, you will follow my rules and instructions. Do you understand?" Sam said, putting the box back in the cabinet.
Lucas nodded, feeling a surge of anticipation and curiosity.
"Good. Then let me tell you what you will be doing here. For normal people that have beginner alchemist class just like me and May, we learn in a different way than a person who has a skill such as you."
Lucas tilted his head in confusion and without letting Sam speak further, he questioned.
"I may have got multiple skills but if I take them individually, I still have the same one as you all," Lucas said while emphasizing the specific skill part.
"…" Sam looked at Lucas with a frown. Mary just closed her eyes not wanting to see what would happen now.
"This is the first time so I will slide it but you are to call me master all the time and don't cut me like that again. Anyway, As for your question, I believe you can answer it on your own." Sam said and pointed a finger at Lucas.
"When you got your class, did it say anything about crafting proficiency effect and crafting affinity?" Sam asked with a smirk.
Lucas opened his status and looked at it without making them notice him doing it.
"Yeah, that time… it said I have +5 proficiency in crafting proficiency effect and 1 in crafting energy affinity."
Sam nodded and smirked even harder.
"Mary, do you know? Crafting affinity energy is 2 times better than the alchemy energy affinity?"
"WHAT!???" Mary stumbled back and Lucas looked at her acting too dramatic.
"Don't look at her like that, her reaction is normal. I will take myself as an example… after 90 years of learning and living as an alchemist, I could only get 10 points in 'alchemy energy affinity', but you, on the other hand, have reached half of what affinity I have with just one point…"
Mary fell on her butt and her expression couldn't have been more pale.

"What is this crafting energy affinity, master?" Lucas did not forget the respect this time and it did not go unnoticed by Sam.
"Hm… that would be your talent and aptitude with the skill. With what you have, I think you could already be considered a prodigy if you start learning."
Lucas was surprised and he only nodded with respect toward him, he thought over everything his teacher had said just now.
"And MARY, this information, you better not tell anyone, alright?" Sam said with a smile yet even Lucas felt chills looking at him.
"What information?" She said after averting her gaze.
"That's the spirit."
"Now, that is it for all the questions. I will do all the explaining now. Just listen."
"Sure… master." Lucas felt the glare again and had no choice but to call him master again and again.
"As a beginner crafter, you have the potential to learn any crafting skill, but you also lack the specialization and expertise of a dedicated crafter. That's why I will teach you the basics of alchemy, the bestest of all crafting skills. Alchemy is the art of transforming matter and creating potions, elixirs, bombs, and other useful items you will soon know about.
It requires knowledge, creativity, and precision. And most importantly, it requires a lot of practice." Sam said, walking back to his desk.
He picked up his spectacles and put them on. He then took a book from a shelf and handed it to Lucas.
"This is your first assignment. Read this book and memorize the recipes and formulas inside. It contains the most common and essential alchemical products that every alchemist should know. You will be tested on them tomorrow. Don't worry, they are not too hard. Just simple things like healing potions, mana potions, firebombs, and so on.
You can use the workshop to practice but don't waste any materials. They are expensive and hard to come by. And don't bother Mary too much. She has her own work to do." Sam said, pointing at the book.
Lucas looked at the book and felt excitement bubbling inside them. It was thick and heavy, full of symbols and diagrams. He wondered how he would be able to learn all of that in one day but the thrill was still there.
Sam didn't show it yet he was dumbfounded by the happiness Lucas was exuding, he had expected a groan or protest. He had been very unreasonable in giving him so much work this early in his journey.
'Whatever, let's see what happens.'
"That will be it for today. Do well and go now."
Lucas did not even look at Sam again and while reading the first page, he left the room leaving the two alone.
"Grandpa… what the heck did I witness just now." Mary who was as bewildered as ever asked.
"Mary, mark my words, this is the start of Sam's workshop to the top again. And that boy... he will have a huge part in it." Sam who was looking at the gate all this while said, he averted his gaze to the window where he saw the market bustling like always.
Lucas went toward his room and he didn't care about the man ogling the women this time.
He went past the guy who grunted in response and soon Lucas got in front of his room.
Lucas entered the room and without even looking at anything, he sat on the bed.
His whole focus was on the book which had the title 'Fundamentals of Alchemy', the book had around a thousand pages yet these pages mostly contained images and symbols that Lucas understood completely without knowing how.
"Look at how engrossed you are~"
Lucas's eyes darted toward the corner where a silhouette was standing.
'Shit, I can't believe this could g unnoticed.'
Because of the book, he hadn't seen the silhouette that was standing in front of him.
The silhouette came close one step after another and after reaching close enough, it stopped.
"Nice to meet you again, Lucas~" The landlord's daughter was in front of him illegally inside his room right now and Lucas had no idea what was happening.
