Noah sometimes regrets having moments where he seems to have nothing to do but tell silly stories. For instance, like turning the Dragon Balls into the four elements and summoning a dragon to fulfill wishes?
Well, in fact, Noah can tell that Evan and the others are just joking around.
After their brief time at Hogwarts and Noah's guidance at Kamar-Taj, their skills in elemental magic have significantly improved. Hogwarts has the advantage of having access to basic elemental magic Noah had introduced before. Dumbledore, rather than keeping it to himself, had carefully classified and shared some of the simpler aspects of it with the students.
However, to officially take the elemental course, one must be in the fifth grade and pass a brand-new exam. Naturally, Evan and his friends, along with nearly all the young members of the Mage Alliance, are eager to take the exam and pass it smoothly.
Noah's assessment of their abilities is accurate. Although they can manipulate elements of all kinds, each has their best suit of elemental magic.
However, Kate wasn't too pleased with Noah's comment about playing in the mud. Still, everyone else seemed to be on board.
"Are you ready?" Fury, who had just returned after a phone call, asked. It seemed he had reported back to his superiors.
"Of course, we're ready. We've been waiting for you," Noah and the others responded. Noah then added, "By the way, the tallest one is Kate, the one with brown hair is Lance, and the shortest one is Evan."
"Hey! What do you mean by the guy with brown hair?" Lance snapped.
"Damn it! It's not my fault that I'm short! It's not like you haven't seen Kate's parents. I even suspect they might be descendants of giants!" Noah replied.
His introduction naturally sparked some dissatisfaction from Lance and Evan. Lance's hair is different from Noah's and the others, who all have blonde hair. Evan, on the other hand, was upset about being called short.
"Hello, my name is Fury," Fury greeted them.
Fury, clearly uncomfortable, was sweating. Who would have thought these were all magicians with such immense power?
"Hello, Mr. Fury," the group greeted, albeit with some reluctance. They turned to Noah. "Can we use our magic wands this time?"
"Of course," Noah nodded. "But don't be too flashy. Learn from me."
"Learn from you?" Evan and the others studied Noah's hand carefully. Soon, they realized: "You turned your magic wand into a ring?"
"Come on, didn't you learn Transfiguration at Hogwarts?"
"Damn it! Why didn't I think of that sooner? Did you do the same thing at Kamar-Taj?"
"Of course not. I only started doing that after I left Kamar-Taj. Though I feel it doesn't matter whether you use a wand or not. A little more versatility never hurts, right?"
"We haven't reached your level yet," Evan and the others shot him a dissatisfied glare. Their current predicament was similar to Noah's from years ago. Forced to give up using wands, they now cast spells without them. But using wands for so long had made the transition uncomfortable. Noah's advice might help, though, even if it meant losing some of their touch. But at least they could continue using wands.
Once Evan and the others turned their wands into personal items, they immediately felt more at ease. Even if there was a psychological effect, the increased power of the wand was not to be underestimated. Even Noah, at his level, still used a wand.
The group prepared to leave, but when Noah glanced at Fury, he realized Fury had yet to respond.
"I think we can go now, Mr. Fury?" Kate asked, blinking as she noticed Fury still standing still.
"Of course, I'm ready," Fury nodded, as if signaling for them to start.
"Sir, since you're ready, why don't you take us there?" Lance asked, scratching his head. He found the ordinary man's behavior a bit confusing.
"Wait, aren't you the ones supposed to lead me?" Fury raised an eyebrow. Then, he tried to mimic Noah's method of drawing circles in the air. "Like this?"
None of them responded. Instead, they all stared at him in silence.
"So, you have no idea where their school is?" Fury asked as they drove in a van.
"Come on, I haven't been out in five years. How am I supposed to know where they are?" Noah shrugged. Honestly, he thought Fury was a fake.
"So, I'm just here to follow you, pay the bills, and drive?" Fury asked with a touch of sarcasm.
"Maybe there's more you haven't discovered, Fury. Don't worry about it," Noah dismissed him.
"Okay, okay. Damn it, I knew nothing good would come of meeting you five years ago, and I feel the same now," Fury muttered.
"Five years ago, I left the Cosmic Cube with you. Don't pretend you didn't benefit from it," Noah countered, rolling his eyes.
Looking at Fury's disgruntled face, Noah felt no guilt. Even if Fury had some grievances, Noah had been kinder to him than to Dr. Ham. Although both were under the influence of Noah's "silence spell" and couldn't speak about magic, at least Noah hadn't erased their memories.
It wasn't long before they arrived at the mutant school in New York.
Everything there felt refreshing. The school was unlike Hogwarts, which was vast, old, and lacked electricity or internet. Kamar-Taj had these things, and now it seemed they had them here too. The mutant school resembled a lavish manor rather than a traditional school.
"It looks pretty good here," Kate commented.
"Your previous magic school wasn't like this?" Fury asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Hogwarts was more like a castle, but there was no electricity or internet. Ghosts and magic made for candlelight everywhere. Kamar-Taj had electricity and internet, but no basketball courts, football, etc. Though I suppose we didn't have the energy to play," Evan responded with a grin.
"It sounds like your life as a magician was pretty dull, no football," Fury remarked, shaking his head.
"The football we're talking about is English soccer, not rugby. We also have our own sport called Quidditch, though we aren't interested in it," Lance chimed in, clearly educated by years of online discussions.
"Alright, enough talking, let's go inside," Noah interjected, eager to get things moving.
He wasn't too worried about Fury learning too much. Even if Fury found out, what could he do with the knowledge? But Noah didn't want to waste any more time chatting, especially if they were being watched.
Evan and the others didn't hesitate, and neither did Fury. Though he was curious, he didn't press the matter.
After a brief conversation, they entered the building and made their way through the vast school. Along the way, they passed many young mutants who looked at Noah and his friends with a mix of curiosity and fear. Fury, with his one eye and intimidating presence, was certainly a frightening figure, especially for these sensitive children.
"They look scared," Evan noticed.
"The life of mutants isn't easy, and Fury does look a bit intimidating. It's natural for them to feel this way," Noah sighed.
The situation for mutants was bleak, and things were only expected to get worse. This was just one of many possible futures, including timelines like Deadpool's world—where no one heard a word from that chatterbox. Then there was the inevitable battle that wiped out all mutants. Noah was still uncertain about the future branching from the Dark Phoenix saga.
Shaking his head, Noah continued toward Charles' office.
