Chapter 38: Obito's Fiery Life

Obito looked up at the sky, where black smoke continuously drifted from the volcano, obscuring it. Coupled with the dark grey land, he felt as if he was in a monotonous world of only black and grey.

"So hot, so spicy!" Obito breathed heavily, trying to soothe his tongue.

Rumble! !

Suddenly, a deafening roar erupted, and an indescribably terrifying fountain of molten lava and flames shot out from the volcano, soaring towards the sky. The scorching black smoke, the towering flames, the dark red magma—the previously black and grey world now gained a dangerous splash of red.

Following that, terrifying molten lava rained down, engulfing Obito, and his eyes regained clarity.

"Spicy! Spicy! Spicy!" As consciousness returned, the sensation of high temperature gradually diminished, but the spiciness clinging to his tongue still hadn't disappeared.

However, Obito still didn't stop eating. Although spicy, it was simply too delicious; he couldn't control himself.

"High temperature, burning." Obito involuntarily recalled the illusion that had mysteriously appeared—the flames erupting from the earth, the high-temperature lava that melted him.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

The next moment, Obito, still panting with his tongue out, directly exhaled a stream of crimson flames from his mouth. Obito yelled about the spiciness while spitting fire and fanning his tongue with his hand, looking like an acrobat performing a fire-breathing trick.

"Ababa..." Obito was a bit bewildered.

"Stop the chakra output," Muyue said calmly.

Only then did Obito realize he had unknowingly been using chakra. He cut off the chakra supply, and the flames vanished.

"While the state hasn't disappeared, quickly cultivate," Muyue said, producing a palm-sized ice cube and placing it in Obito's hand.

"Remember that feeling from just now, the high temperature and the burning," Muyue reminded him.

Recalling Obito's dazed expression from earlier, Muyue somewhat guessed what was happening. "I didn't expect skill-enhancing dishes that carry illusions to have such an effect," Muyue thought with some surprise. "It seems I'll have to make some more 'fiery' dishes for Obito recently," Muyue mused.

A simple homemade stir-fry with chilies had such an effect; if he fed Obito Mapo Tofu every day, wouldn't his progress be rapid?

"Muyue-sensei, look quickly!" Obito excitedly called out to Muyue, looking at the rapidly melting ice cube in his hand.

Muyue glanced at it and nodded slightly; the palm-sized ice cube had noticeably shrunk in just one minute. "Very good, keep it up, and don't forget this feeling," Muyue affirmed with a nod, also reminding Obito not to get carried away.

"Mhm, mhm!" Obito nodded quickly, concentrating intently on the ice cube, continuously releasing chakra. He was very excited by his significant progress. Sometimes, the reason it's hard to endure tedious training is the lack of consistent feedback. If every training session yielded such progress, Obito felt he might become a training fanatic himself.

"Obito, you don't dislike spicy food, do you?" Muyue suddenly asked with a smile.

"Spicy? If it's as delicious as that just now, a little spiciness doesn't matter," Obito said, instinctively licking his lips, reminiscing about the delicious meal. It was the first time he had eaten such a tasty stir-fry; although the chilies were a bit spicy, it was genuinely delicious.

"Don't worry, I guarantee it'll be delicious." Muyue patted Obito's shoulder. 'You said it yourself.'

Obito, who was diligently melting the ice cube, suddenly had a bad premonition. Could it be, could it be that... Even though he was holding an ice cube, Obito couldn't help but feel a chill down his spine.

"Muyue-sensei, actually, I really like fried rice too," Obito attempted to salvage the situation.

"Hmm, chili fried rice, right? I'll make it for you," Muyue said with a gentle smile.

"Can I have chili fried rice without the chili?" Obito asked with pleading eyes. He had a very bad memory of once eating something incredibly spicy, and then he learned what "spicy on both ends" meant. If he had to eat Muyue's "a little spicy" dishes every day, Obito feared he might not be able to leave the bathroom once he entered.

"Chili fried rice without fried rice? I didn't expect your taste to be so strong, but it's not impossible," Muyue said, feigning deafness.

Hearing Muyue's words, Obito's eyes went dark, his legs went weak, and he nearly fainted on the spot. He looked to Shisui for help. Shisui, who was still savoring his meal, noticed Obito's gaze and immediately looked up at the sky, pretending not to see him. It wasn't that Uchiha Shisui disregarded clan ties, but this was a difficult matter to get involved in. After all, Obito's training efficiency had indeed improved after the meal, and eating spicy food might have a miraculous effect on fire nature transformation training. Moreover, Obito himself had said it was delicious and had been eating it ravenously while complaining about the spiciness. Of course, the main reason was that he knew if he spoke up, he and Obito would end up eating it together. Although Shisui didn't mind spicy food, he didn't want to eat it every day, and he didn't have the urgent need to rapidly improve his nature transformation.

Obito looked towards Might Guy. Might Guy noticed Obito's gaze, smiled, and gave him a thumbs up, saying, "Fiery youth should eat more spicy food!"

Obito: ... At this moment, his hands were cold, and his heart was even colder. Where was the family brotherhood, the master-disciple bond? At the critical moment, no one could be relied on! Obito burst forth with chakra, melting all the ice in his hand in one go, and adjusted his goggles.

"Sensei, I think it's too much trouble for you to make three separate dishes. It would be much easier to just make one large dish and divide it into three portions for us," Obito said, feigning consideration for Muyue. Since that's the case, then no one should have it easy; if they were going to suffer, they'd suffer together.

"That sounds good," Muyue said, adopting a thoughtful expression. Of course, he knew what Obito was thinking, but Muyue chose an answer that would lead to some entertainment.

Shisui's previously composed expression couldn't be maintained. He hadn't expected his often-goofy clan brother to have such quick wit when it came to dragging others down.

"A fiery youth means we should all eat spicy food together!" Might Guy said with a laugh.

'So that's what he was really thinking,' Obito and Shisui thought silently.

Muyue pondered for a moment and thought it wasn't a bad idea. The taste was guaranteed, after all, and both Obito and Shisui needed to practice Fire Release, and Might Guy was willing to eat it.

From that day onward, Obito, Shisui, and Might Guy began to live a physically "fiery" life.

"So spicy, so delicious!" Even with tears streaming down his face from the spiciness, Obito couldn't stop wolfing down the Mapo Tofu in his bento box.

"So spicy! Delicious!" Might Guy was also eating Mapo Tofu with tears streaming down his face, though unlike Obito, Guy's tears were from emotion, not spiciness.

Shisui, who was constantly panting from the spiciness, quietly put a little distance between himself and the other two.

The three of them would go to the restroom together, walk in standing, and then lean on the wall, hunched over, as they came out.

At school, Rin saw Obito inexplicably sticking his butt out and asked worriedly:

"Obito, are you feeling unwell?"

Obito showed a melancholic expression and said, "No, it's just a small side effect of diligent training."

"Rin, this time you definitely won't believe how much my Fire Release has improved. I'm going to defeat Kakashi in this year's Young Ninja Tournament!" Obito declared confidently. One of the reasons he could persevere in his arduous training was to wash away his previous shame, to defeat Kakashi in front of Rin, and take first place.

"But Kakashi probably won't be signing up, right? He's already a Chunin. This competition is usually only for us academy students," Rin Nohara said. She believed Obito had indeed trained hard and made great progress, but why would Kakashi, who was already a ninja, participate in such a civilian competition?

"Huh?" Obito was dumbfounded; he had just assumed Kakashi would participate.
