Chapter 41: Training in Progress
The Root organization acted quickly. As soon as Muyue submitted his report, a Root ninja silently arrived at his courtyard the next morning.
"This is Lord Danzo's order," the Root ninja said, handing two scrolls to Muyue.
Muyue nodded and accepted the scrolls.
Muyue first opened the scroll containing the mission assignment. As before, the Root ninja left directly after delivering the items without much extra talk. Sensing the Root ninja's presence disappear, Muyue went inside to examine the contents of the scroll. It was largely the same as before; the beginning was filled with manipulative praise, commending Muyue for completing his mission well and not letting down the organization's cultivation, but also stating that he still needed to work harder. Muyue mainly focused on the latter content.
Danzo answered Muyue's previous question about whether to recruit Asuma into Root: the answer was no. Danzo stated that Muyue only needed to teach Asuma normally and become an important teacher to him, without doing anything superfluous, and also warned Muyue not to reveal any abnormalities. This answer was largely as Muyue expected. Recruiting Asuma into Root would be like Danzo sitting in the Hokage's office, waiting for him to regret it. Although Danzo's Root organization was not weak, its current strength relied entirely on absorbing nourishment from the Anbu. For Hiruzen Sarutobi, the true Hokage, controlling Root was too easy. Additionally, the instructions included keeping a close eye on Uchiha students, evaluating any anti-Leaf tendencies, and noting any geniuses who could be absorbed into Root.
As for the other scroll, it contained several hard-to-obtain advanced secret medicines, as a reward for Muyue's excellent completion of the mission. Muyue put away the scroll with the secret medicines and burned the other scroll.
"In this world, even a stable life has become a luxury..." Muyue swept up the ashes and poured them into the trash can, gazing indifferently at the courtyard. Living with a fully armed ninja standing in his courtyard every morning made him very uncomfortable. But Muyue had no choice at the moment. He had considered whether to directly expose his strength while teaching Asuma, allowing Hiruzen to see his value, and then defect to the Third Hokage, which would resolve the Cursed Seal problem. This idea was quickly rejected by Muyue. He could defect by being appreciated by Hiruzen, but not by exposing his strength. Hiruzen Sarutobi was unaware of his specific strength and ninjutsu, and as long as he didn't expose ninjutsu like Water Release: Severing Wave, it could generally be explained away. But it was different with Danzo; the original owner was cultivated by Danzo, and Danzo knew too much information. If he defected by exposing his strength, Danzo might just tell the Third Hokage about Muyue's information and have him treated as a spy.
Muyue believed there were only three situations in which he could expose his strength: one was if Danzo planned to use him as expendable material, then he would expose his strength and find an opportunity to escape. The second was to wait until his strength reached the level of the Sannin, allowing him to act during wartime and provide crucial assistance to the Leaf Village. Even if the origin of his strength was unknown, Muyue would only become a hero, not a spy. The third was to possess the power to overturn the Leaf Village; at that point, it wouldn't matter whether he exposed his strength or not.
Muyue adjusted his expression and went to the Ninja Academy, walking into the office and then the classroom with a gentle smile. When he didn't have enough strength, it was better to be a gentle, warm man whom everyone liked.
...
On Saturday, Obito went to the training ground early to begin his practice. He picked up a palm-sized ice cube, placed it on his palm, and began his nature transformation training by gathering chakra in his hand. After about ten seconds, the ice cube disappeared, and the water on the ground was proof of its existence. Muyue, standing nearby, nodded. Six days ago, Obito's melting speed was even slower than the natural melting speed of ice. To reach this level of training in six days was beyond expectations. After all, he hadn't expected to acquire the chef skill, nor had he imagined that this life skill could be useful in nature transformation training. Mapo Tofu could be said to be a major contributor to his rapid progress in such a short time.
"You have initially grasped the trick of nature transformation. Next, you need to continuously strengthen your maximum output," Muyue said, directly taking a head-sized ice cube from a wooden bucket and placing it on the ground. "Your next goal is to melt this ice cube within ten seconds," Muyue announced that the training was entering the next phase.
"Huh? This is too big, isn't it?" Obito scratched his head, looking at the head-sized ice cube; the increase was too much. "This time, we're pursuing the limit of instantaneous nature transformation. You don't need to worry about chakra consumption; use your full strength. Rest when you're tired, and continue practicing after you've rested well," Muyue instructed. This stage required time and persistence, unless one had the vitality and chakra of someone like Naruto, who could freely create a large number of shadow clones to gain experience. Compared to a cheat like Naruto, Obito was already doing well, after all, the teaching skill was somewhat useful, and he had the bonus status from special dishes.
As it approached noon, Muyue had his three disciples stop their training. "You must be tired of eating similar dishes every day. Today, we're having hotpot," Muyue said with a smile. Although there was a skill bonus, the students would probably still be happy eating the same dish constantly, but Muyue pursued a higher level of trust, so he wanted to do better.
"Great! Finally, no more super spicy tofu!" Obito immediately jumped up excitedly. It wasn't that Mapo Tofu wasn't delicious, but eating it every day led to extremely painful trips to the bathroom. "I've only prepared the hotpot base. As for the ingredients, that depends on what you find later," Muyue continued.
"I want to eat fish!" Obito said, then pulled out a kunai and scurried to the river to spear fish.
"I'll help you!" The enthusiastic Might Guy heard Obito wanted fish and directly performed a hundred-meter sprint, plunging into the water and splashing a lot of water. Obito, who was looking for opportunities to spear fish, was completely drenched.
"Gai!" Obito's fists clenched. The next moment, Might Guy emerged holding two fish, looking at Obito with a confused expression and asking, "Obito, did you call me?"
"Yeah, I wanted to say, Gai, you're so thoughtful! You're truly a good brother," Obito said, instantly changing his expression and praising him as he looked at the two fresh fish in Might Guy's hand.
Shisui dug up some wild vegetables and mushrooms in the forest. The three of them also worked together to kill a wild boar. Might Guy attracted its attention, Shisui was the main attacker, and Obito assisted; the three of them worked together to take down the wild boar. Muyue, meanwhile, first cooked the hotpot base and then processed the ingredients they brought. He used several shadow clones to divide the work and quickly process the ingredients. Actually, only the wild boar and fish were a bit troublesome; the wild vegetables and mushrooms were just washed, cut in half, and then directly put in. They didn't even make a fire; they just had Obito put his hands underneath to act as a human heater, also considering it as training. The four teacher and disciples thus made use of the local resources in the forest for their lunch. Although there weren't many complicated procedures and the ingredients were simply found on the spot, not as delicious as Muyue's direct cooking, Shisui ate very happily and felt very warm. This was a feeling he rarely experienced, having lost both parents at a very young age.
[Disciple Uchiha Shisui's Trust Level has increased. Current Trust Level: Three]
Picking up a piece of fish from the pot and eating it, Muyue also smiled.
