Chapter 100: 100. Green
As a world-class cruise ship, the S.S Anne featured not only platforms for trainer battles but also facilities for treating Pokémon. Naturally, it had medical equipment for humans as well.
Eddie carried the unconscious Ash on his back to the treatment room under the protection of Riolu and Greninja. Despite the chaos outside, the doctors and nurses remained at their posts—their dedication was truly admirable.
He asked the medical staff to treat Ash while he rested nearby. Though his own injuries were substantial, he prioritized Ash's more serious condition and would endure his pain for now.
As for Team Rocket's bombing of the ship outside, Eddie wasn't particularly concerned. After all, they had bombed the ship merely to create a diversion allowing Lt. Surge to escape. Once this objective was accomplished, they would only pretend to fight with the trainers before retreating.
And indeed, this was exactly what happened. Team Rocket members staged a brief battle before quickly withdrawing. However, those targeted by Mega Charizard X and Mega Sceptile weren't so fortunate—almost twenty were defeated or captured and brought aboard the ship.
With the explosions now ceased, Eddie could rest quietly for a moment.
"Come out, I know where you are," Eddie suddenly announced while leaning against the treatment room's outer wall.
No one responded. The corridor appeared empty except for him.
"Not coming out? Riolu, use Force Palm."
Hearing the command, Riolu immediately extended his paw toward a certain wall.
"Hey, hey, wait, wait... Brother, is this how you treat your savior? So ruthless! Had I known, I wouldn't have helped you earlier."
Just as Riolu was about to attack, the wall suddenly twisted and issued a righteous rebuke to Eddie.
The scolding voice was feminine—like a valley orchid, like a song, like the soft whisper of a woman from the south, making one feel as if their heart were soaked in honey. Within that light and pleasant sound, the most unforgettable quality was its charm. The voice alone evoked the word "alluring."
Eddie found this voice somewhat familiar, as if he had heard it before his rebirth, though he couldn't quite place it. Regardless, the person stood before him now, and he could identify them with a simple look.
The twisted wall transformed into a purple amorphous creature with small eyes and a mouth.
"A Ditto? And one that can transform into things beyond Pokémon. It's her. I didn't expect she would be on this ship too."
Ordinary Ditto could only transform into Pokémon at most, but someone's Ditto was special. It could not only become Pokémon but transform into virtually any object—even a person.
While this kind of Ditto wasn't unique, it was extremely rare. Combined with the feminine voice he'd just heard, Eddie had already guessed the trainer's identity.
Under Eddie's gaze, Ditto completely reverted from a wall to its original form, revealing the person who had been hiding behind it.
It was Green, looking somewhat young but still radiating beauty.
Her brown hair cascaded like a waterfall, and her jade-like earlobes were adorned with earrings made from gym badges—a Boulder Badge on the left and a Cascade Badge on the right.
She wore a water-blue dress, and though her frame was petite, her legs appeared slender. She possessed a pair of assets completely inconsistent with her body type, making one wonder what she ate to develop such features.
Her face matched her voice—soft and charming—and her intelligent eyes seemed capable of speech, making one's heart race upon meeting her gaze.
Her name was Green, a smart, cunning, mischievous, and cheerful girl, as well as the third Pokédex owner in the original storyline. Though Eddie now occupied the third position, she seemed to be ranked fourth.
"Savior? Were you the one who threw that Water Stone earlier?" Eddie's expression remained unchanged. She was just a beautiful woman, not someone he hadn't encountered before, though Green was undeniably attractive.
But Eddie was familiar with Green's nature and knew he would suffer if he underestimated her.
"That's right! That Water Stone was very expensive, and it saved the life of that Poliwhirl. It also instantly reversed the situation, so its value should be multiplied several times."
Green spoke indignantly, as if Eddie were an ungrateful person.
"True enough. How much for the Water Stone? Give me a number."
Eddie remained unmoved. He suspected Green might try to extort money from him, but it didn't matter... After all, in that critical moment, without the Water Stone, Poliwhirl might have actually died.
Ash had made such a move to help Eddie, so it was reasonable for Eddie to help repay some of Ash's expenses.
"Huh? So generous? Let me calculate then."
Green was momentarily stunned by his words. She had expected Eddie to argue, not to be so straightforward.
But Green was nothing if not opportunistic. Seeing a chance to actually extract payment, she wouldn't pass up such an excellent opportunity.
She produced a small calculator from somewhere and began calculating.
"The market price for a Water Stone is 25,000 Pokédollars. Considering it saved Poliwhirl's life, doubling the price isn't unreasonable. Furthermore, since I helped you turn the battle around, doubling it again seems fair—a total of 100,000 Pokédollars!"
Green's calculation was shamelessly inflated. After all, 100,000 Pokédollars represented several years' income for many families.
Getting this amount for a single Water Stone was truly an exceptional deal.
"Here, take it. Don't come crying to me if you lose it."
Without hesitation, Eddie produced the 100,000 Pokédollars he had won from his morning bet, casually held them out, and handed them to Green.
It wasn't a significant loss for Eddie. In the game version, he received Pokédollars whenever he defeated Trainer 2.0, and because of the Power of Viridian, he didn't need much money for Pokémon treatment.
So he had little use for excessive funds, not to mention he had just won these 100,000 Pokédollars betting on Ash's victory that morning. Why should he regret it?
"He really just handed over 100,000 Pokédollars like it was nothing. I, Green, have worked so hard (allegedly) to earn money (supposedly) for so long, yet I don't have this amount... This damn rich guy..."
"Hmm? What did you say?"
"Nothing, nothing! Thank you for your patronage."
Green quickly pocketed the 100,000 Pokédollars, seemingly afraid Eddie might reconsider.
