Pokemon: I am a God-level Player

Chapter 101: 101. Green's Purpose

Green noticed Eddie had given her the money, and she began counting it meticulously, worried that he might have shorted her.

Eddie smiled, amused by her money-obsessed expression.

In truth, earning money wasn't particularly difficult for Green, but due to certain circumstances, she lacked proper identification documents. This effectively cut her off from legitimate income sources.

As a result, she resorted to selling minor trinkets and small-time scams to cover her living expenses. With her skills, accumulating substantial wealth would have been simple, but her kind heart prevented her from engaging in activities that might seriously harm others. She limited herself to minor deceptions and petty thefts that caused minimal damage.

This compassionate nature was precisely why Eddie had generously offered Green 100,000 Pokédollars—to help the struggling girl. Though, he suspected the Water Stone she'd given him might have been casually acquired rather than purchased.

"Finished counting? Is there anything else?" Eddie asked with a smile, watching as Green carefully tucked away the money. He found her behavior entertaining but was feeling exhausted and hoped to conclude their business quickly so he could rest.

"Oh! I completely forgot why I came!" Green exclaimed, suddenly remembering her purpose. She shot Eddie an accusatory look. "Darn rich people, using money to distract me!"

Eddie was speechless. Wasn't she the one obsessed with money moments ago? Now she was blaming him?

"Ahem, just joking, brother. I do have other business," Green said, her expression shifting rapidly as she smiled again.

Damn, I got completely distracted by those 100,000 Pokédollars and forgot I needed something else from the Water Stone deal, she thought regretfully.

Green had approached Eddie with a specific purpose—why else would she have been sneaking around him? Unfortunately, she hadn't realized that Eddie's Riolu could sense her presence through aura, resulting in her immediate discovery.

She'd then tried making a fuss about the Water Stone, hoping to exchange it for certain promises or favors, but Eddie had casually tossed out 100,000 Pokédollars as if it were nothing.

The substantial sum had momentarily captivated her attention—who wouldn't be distracted when Eddie offered so much money so casually? But now, having accepted the payment, she wasn't sure what excuse to use.

"Ahem! So, I've heard you're the owner of a Pokédex," she said, finally biting the bullet and stating her request directly. "I'm very curious about it. Brother Morning Sun, could you show me your Pokédex?"

"You know my name, and you know about my Pokédex?" Eddie's eyes narrowed as he smiled. "Miss Green, I'm beginning to wonder if you have other motives."

"I don't have any hidden agenda," Green insisted. "I know your name and about your Pokédex because you're powerful and famous. I found out by asking around."

This is bad—he's onto me, Green thought to herself. She immediately shifted to a somewhat trembling voice and put on a pitiful expression.

Her "affectionate" gaze and vulnerable demeanor were so convincing that most people would have felt compelled to protect her.

Unfortunately for Green, her Oscar-worthy performance was wasted on the wrong audience.

Had she been facing Ash, he would have fallen for her act instantly. But she was dealing with Eddie, who knew her background.

Eddie was momentarily affected by her appearance, his heart softening slightly as he questioned her deceptive intentions.

However, after carefully considering Green's personality and her recent statements, Eddie quickly snapped back to reality.

He was a player who had been in this Pokémon world for less than a week. How famous could he possibly be? How powerful was he compared to high-level Trainers? Besides a select few individuals, only players knew the name Morning Sun.

Perhaps among players, the name Morning Sun was indeed well-known, but they wouldn't know that Eddie possessed a genuine Pokédex.

How had Green discovered that Eddie had a real Pokédex? Only Professor Oak, Ash, and Gary knew Eddie had the authentic device, not the mass-produced defective versions given to other players.

As for Brock and Misty, they likely weren't aware that Eddie possessed the real thing rather than a flawed replica.

"I'm that famous? Strange, I wasn't aware," Eddie replied with a smile, not exposing Green's inconsistencies. He wanted to see what tricks she might try next.

"From your appearance, I can tell you've been training in the wilderness," Green responded quickly. "It's perfectly normal that you wouldn't know about city news."

Green knew that people like Eddie must frequently train in remote areas, so her statement contained no obvious flaws.

Eddie nodded at this. Green was correct—he did spend more time in the wild than in cities, primarily for leveling purposes.

"So, can you lend me your Pokédex?" Green pressed, seizing the opportunity. Her goal was the Pokédex in Eddie's possession, and she planned to flee as soon as she obtained it.

When it came to escape tactics, Lt. Surge who had just fled wasn't worthy of comparison. She had absolute confidence in her getaway skills!

Eddie smiled brightly—so brightly that Green thought her request had been granted. Then Eddie gave her two simple words:

"No."

"...Why?" Green asked, taken aback.

"No reason. Why should I show you my Pokédex?"

"I just saved your life! You won't even show me your Pokédex?" Green was furious, though her expression remained pitifully pleading.

"Didn't you just accept 100,000 Pokédollars from me?" Eddie remained unmoved. "The price of the Water Stone has quadrupled in your favor, so we shouldn't owe each other anything, right?"

Eddie made it clear that Green had accepted his payment, settling any debts between them.

Now he understood that Green had intended to use the Water Stone as leverage to extract a favor or promise from him. If she had asked to see his Pokédex under those circumstances, Eddie would have struggled to refuse.

But Eddie had been thinking about repaying Ash's favor by helping Green, so he'd generously offered her 100,000 Pokédollars. Green, mesmerized by the sum, had taken it directly. In this way, Eddie had inadvertently thwarted Green's plan.

"Why was I so greedy?" Green lamented internally. "What should I do now?"

"But, Pokédollars are just Pokédollars. Money can't represent my feelings," Eddie said.

"If you ever need my help, you can come to me. I'll assist you however I can."

Indeed, Eddie felt that money didn't represent anything meaningful—after all, you only have one life.

Although in their previous encounter, Eddie could have won even without the Water Stone's help, doing so might have forced him to reveal his capabilities prematurely. In such a scenario, the disadvantages would have outweighed the benefits, making Green's assistance genuinely valuable. Offering her a promise of future help seemed reasonable.

This wasn't because Green's troubles might represent a potential quest, and quests typically meant rewards. Eddie was simply a good person who repaid favors. He wouldn't help solely for quest rewards, but while helping, he wouldn't mind collecting those rewards as an added benefit.
