Chapter 189: Animagus
The Anti-Magic Stone lay quietly on the table, yet neither Lynn nor Irwin, standing just a meter away, felt any magical suppression from it.
In fact, the golden cord wrapped around the Anti-Magic Stone, called the Goldbinding Cord, had the unique ability to block the power of any magical object it was tied to, including the Anti-Magic Stone itself, which had the power to suppress magic—and the soul within it, a fragmented Horcrux.
Originally, Lynn had refined this kind of cord solely to protect the power of magical artifacts and to temporarily limit the movement of Horcruxes if he encountered one in the future and could not destroy it immediately. This was to prevent a repeat of the chaos caused by Tom Riddle's diary in the Chamber of Secrets.
However, since the Goldbinding Cord was a product of material alchemy and its components were not difficult to find, Lynn not only kept some cords in reserve but also refined additional ones to bind unprocessed Anti-Magic Stones before they were converted into Anti-Magic Scepters.
"If you encounter a powerful enemy whose magical level far exceeds your own, you can untie the cord of this Anti-Magic Stone to activate its forbidden magic. It can weaken or even indiscriminately suppress the magic of all wizards around you, giving you a chance to survive," Lynn said calmly.
Irwin carefully stored the Anti-Magic Stone, treating it as a treasure, and said in admiration, "Is this the Anti-Magic Stone invented by Professor Green decades ago?"
Lynn nodded and added, "Yes, and after untying this cord, don't discard it. This cord is called the Goldbinding Cord. It's also an alchemical accessory. Its function is to block the power of other magical artifacts."
Upon hearing this, Irwin was even more astonished.
From Lynn's words, Irwin came to a startling realization: the Anti-Magic Stone in front of him hadn't activated yet, not because it hadn't been triggered, but because the Goldbinding Cord was blocking its power!
Even the Anti-Magic Stone, with its ability to suppress magic, could be blocked. How powerful must this Goldbinding Cord be! This was no mere decoration!
What lay before Irwin now weren't just magical tools—there were two powerful alchemical tools!
"Thank you, Lynn!" Irwin said sincerely.
Lynn smiled and replied, "There's no need to thank me. Since the moment you swore the Unbreakable Vow, you and Irina are my comrades-in-arms. It's our duty to protect our fellow comrades!"
Irwin felt warmth in his heart.
This Unbreakable Vow wasn't just a contract for him—it was a ticket to join a wonderful team.
Lynn then asked, "By the way, Irwin, you come from a pure-blood family, have you ever studied dark magic?"
Irwin answered honestly, "I've learned a bit, but nothing too powerful—just simple dark magic like making a black dragon from a hole."
Lynn patted Irwin on the shoulder and said, "That's fine. For now, Hogwarts Castle isn't as dangerous as you think. Wait until the next summer break; I'll take you and Irina to another place, a place much more dangerous, where you can temper yourselves through endless battles."
The extremely dangerous place Lynn mentioned was, of course, the gathering place of dark wizards in the British magical world: Knockturn Alley.
Fighting was the best way to temper oneself, and not everyone in Knockturn Alley, the largest gathering place for dark wizards in the British magical world, was an atrocious dark wizard. Many poor and marginalized individuals chose to live there in an ignoble existence.
Lynn and Irina would never use Knockturn Alley as a place for battle. If they randomly killed people there, they would be no different than the Death Eaters.
But Knockturn Alley was different. Everyone who lived there were ruthless individuals. Killing them would not weigh heavily on their conscience.
After equipping Irwin with alchemical tools, Lynn instructed him to return to Hogwarts first.
Lynn then stayed behind with Irina.
"Lynn, is there something else you need from me?"
Irina looked at Lynn, puzzled.
Lynn smiled slightly and said, "Irina, do you plan on learning to become an Animagus?"
Irina was taken aback.
Animagus was a deep transformation technique that allowed a wizard to transform into a specific animal. Professor McGonagall was an Animagus, in the form of a tabby cat. Furthermore, Harry's father's predator, except for Lupin, who was a werewolf, the other three of the Marauders were also Animagi.
Under normal circumstances, any wizard who became an Animagus had to register with the Ministry of Magic; otherwise, they would be an illegal Animagus. If caught, they could even be imprisoned in Azkaban.
However, few would be willing to go to the Ministry of Magic to register their Animagus form, exposing their transformation and losing one of their secret advantages.
Therefore, including Professor McGonagall, only seven Animagi were registered with the Ministry of Magic in the 20th century.
"I think learning to become an Animagus has its pros and cons for us. It can give us another trump card to save our lives, but learning Animagus seems incredibly difficult," Irina said.
Lynn replied, "Actually, I plan to practice becoming an Animagus during this school year. I mentioned before that I joined Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration Club when I was in first year, and I also have theoretical records on Animagi from Magus. This is my Transfiguration notebook."
With that, Lynn handed Irina a slightly yellowed notebook.
Irina looked down and saw that the open page in the notebook exactly recorded the method to become an Animagus.
To become an Animagus, a wizard must keep a single mandrake leaf in their mouth continuously from the first full moon until the second full moon.
The wizard must not swallow the leaf or remove it from their mouth at any time; if the leaf leaves the mouth, the process must start over.
Afterward, the wizard must take out the leaves when the second full moon arrives, fill a glass vial with their own saliva, soak the leaves in it, and let it receive the pure light of the moon. They must then add a lock of their own hair and a silver teaspoon of dew, collected from a place where there has been no sunlight or human contact for seven full days.
Finally, the wizard must add a pupa of a Grimace Hawkmoth, place the mixture in a quiet and dark place until the next thunderstorm, and must not look at or disturb it until then.
At this point, the prerequisites for becoming an Animagus are considered complete.
While waiting for the storm to arrive, the wizard must perform the following actions every dawn and dusk: point the tip of their wand to their heart and recite the incantation: "Amato, Animo, Animato, Animagus."
