Being able to observe and extract the strengths of others, then incorporate them to shore up your own weaknesses, was its own form of evolution.
A good Trainer trains their Pokémon.
A great Trainer trains themselves.
And even in defeat, there are lessons.
As the old saying goes: Fools learn from their own losses. The wise learn from the losses of others. That principle resonated with them both.

Before long, it was already past eleven o'clock.
Sixteen rounds had gone by since the first match, and most battles ended in under five minutes some disastrously short.
A few teams collapsed the moment they sent out their Pokémon, their tactics falling apart before even making a single move. Some made obvious mistakes, like using Electric-type attacks on Ground-type Pokémon, or relying entirely on raw power without defensive support.
"Next, let's welcome Team 33 and Team 34 onto the stage!"
Host A.J. announced with his trademark flamboyance, as the LED screen flashed both team numbers with animated sparkles.
Chen Xiaoxiao stood up immediately.
"It's our turn, Xiao Yueyue. Let's go."
She grinned and reached out, grabbing Leng Yue by the wrist and pulling her toward the stage.

Across the field, Zhang San and Li Si were already approaching the opposite trainer's zone. The tension between the two duos was nearly tangible.
From the commentary box, Host A.J. continued, his voice amplified across the stadium:

Seeing two girls from such rare backgrounds team up immediately boosted crowd interest. The applause surged.
The number 593 blared over the PA system, triggering a wave of cheers from a fan section waving blue and white flags. Evidently, Chen Xiaoxiao already had a few fans from her livestream circuit.

"I've already stalked the university forums. I know all the hot upperclassman trainers by face there's no way she's one of the top ranked ones.
And that Traveling Trainer thing? Please. That just means she didn't qualify for university and made up a flashy title. They just run around doing self-funded fieldwork."
Zhang San's mouth curled into a confident sneer.
"So let's keep focused. Crush them quick and teach them not to mess with us."

"Your turn, Ninetales!" Leng Yue called out gracefully.

Ability: Snow Warning (Summons Hail upon entry)
"Let's shine, Meowstic!" Chen Xiaoxiao threw her Poké Ball high.

Type: Psychic
Ability: Infiltrator (Ignores barriers and Substitute)
"Team Huaqing has chosen Drapion and Golisopod both known for their durability and brute tactics!"
"Team Beijing-Shencheng sends out the elegant Alolan Ninetales and a rarely seen female Meowstic, known for their support and disruption playstyles!"
Host A.J revved up the crowd with his commentary.
The shimmering snow from Ninetales' entrance blanketed the battlefield beautiful, but dangerous.
"Ugh, it's either type resistance or weakness across the board."
Chen Xiaoxiao frowned. Bug resists Psychic... and Dark is immune...
"What's your Meowstic's power level?"
Leng Yue asked, analyzing the enemy.
"Elite Intermediate."
Chen Xiaoxiao answered plainly.
Leng Yue blinked in disbelief.
"…Then why are you even calling this troublesome?"
An Elite Intermediate Meowstic against opponents near Quasi-Elite level wasn't bad at all!

On the other side, Zhang San scoffed arrogantly.
"See? Told you we'd win. These little girls are all flash no grit. Which one's the pet cat? I'll squash it first."
Li Si didn't reply, but a flicker of doubt remained in his eyes.
That name Chen Xiaoxiao. It's familiar... and not in a good way.

"Trainers ready… Battle Start!"
Host A.J signaled the beginning of the match.
"Drapion! Dark Pulse on that Meowstic wipe her out!"
Zhang San barked.
"Golisopod! First Impression, now!"
Li Si commanded, hoping to press the advantage fast.
"Meowstic, Protect!"
Chen Xiaoxiao responded instantly.
"Ninetales, prep Blizzard wait for my call!"
Leng Yue chose to delay strangely calm.
The moment Meowstic's protective barrier shimmered to life, Golisopod's First Impression slammed into it, followed by Drapion's Dark Pulse—a dual-type-advantage combo that shook the field.
BOOM!
"Incredible! Meowstic just blocked two powerful opening strikes using Protect and with hardly a scratch! Now that's confidence under pressure!"
A.J narrated excitedly.
Zhang San stared, stunned.
"That—That should've one-shotted her! This isn't the script!"

"Now, Ninetales Blizzard!"
Leng Yue's voice was cool, precise.
The stage turned into a snowstorm as freezing winds exploded from Ninetales' mouth, covering the battlefield in a swirling blizzard. Visibility dropped instantly.
"Meowstic, use Future Sight target Golisopod!"
Chen Xiaoxiao used the cover to strike cleverly.
Invisible psychic energy surged and vanished into the future.
"Drapion! Sweep the field with Dark Pulse! Get rid of that snowstorm!"
Zhang San roared, trying to regain vision.
"Golisopod! Fury Cutter start building power!"
Li Si followed, but the wind disrupted aim.
"What a twist! Ninetales' Blizzard not only dealt damage—it split the battlefield in half, isolating both teams! Was that just an accidental wide-range move… or something deeper?"

"Ninetales, Ice Beam on Drapion!"
A concentrated beam shot across the icy field, nailing Drapion squarely in the shoulder.
BOOM!
"Direct hit! Drapion takes a solid Ice Beam right after bracing against the snowstorm! That's gonna leave a mark!"
"Drapion!" Zhang San's frustration showed.

"Meowstic, Miracle Eye—lock onto Drapion!"
Chen Xiaoxiao continued the setup.
"Don't let her! Golisopod, use Pin Missile—interrupt it!"
Li Si shouted.
Needles flew across the field.
"Ninetales, cover her use Protect!"
A shimmering light wall expanded just in time, and Pin Missile shattered harmlessly against it.
> "Excellent teamwork! Ninetales intercepts the attack with Protect, shielding Meowstic again! That's some serious tag-team synergy!"

As Golisopod blinked at the missed attack, the hidden energy from Meowstic's Future Sight struck BAM! A delayed psychic blow erupted around it.
"Drapion! Use Sludge Bomb on Ninetales!"
"Meowstic, hit Drapion with Psychic!"
"Ninetales, Agility evade it!"
Three commands fired off in quick succession.
Drapion launched a Sludge Bomb just as Meowstic's Psychic forced it off-balance. Ninetales blurred with a flash of movement, narrowly dodging the sludge.
"Golisopod! Protect Drapion!"
Li Si finally countered, seeing their defense crumble.

Chen Xiaoxiao and Leng Yue exchanged a glance—then high-fived.
"Snap!"
Like a signal going off
Meowstic's Psychic caught Drapion squarely
Future Sight's second psychic echo exploded on Golisopod
BOOM! BOOM!
The field shook.
"Double hit! Drapion and Golisopod just took a brutal psychic one-two combo! It's hard to believe these two girls are debuting as a pair!"
And the battle was far from over.
