The System Teaches You How to Be Human

Chapter 65 - The Slum Boy’s Desperate Counterattack (10)

What the hell is that?

Tru frowned. Because he was on the arena stage, the surrounding audience noise had been filtered out as much as possible. Even so, he could still sense their unusual reaction. Correspondingly, the various attributes of the mechas were only visible to the audience; Tru, as a contestant, couldn’t see them.

What appeared before Tru was an extremely bizarre mecha.

It was downright ugly. Its dark green shell looked like the murky water flowing through a ditch, and its surface seemed as fragile as paper.

The design of this mecha also made Tru’s eye twitch; it was practically a model from several, even over a dozen, years ago. A mecha so basic it couldn’t get any more basic, typically used by beginners for practice.

Not to mention, the mecha didn’t even have a manufacturer’s mark. It was a complete no-brand, uncertified product.

Where did this clueless rookie crawl out from?

Tru extended his hand, and his mecha was launched from his mecha button, locking onto him with absolute precision.

He cast a contemptuous glance at the golden, dazzling title floating above Si Yisi’s head.

Hah! Kneel and call him daddy? This guy had no sense of reality! Thinking this way, Tru’s gaze toward Lin Xian became even more mocking.

“Bai Lingqiu, remember to coordinate with me properly.” Tru turned to the fighter he had spent a fortune to recruit; the runner-up of the last Dual Emperor Tournament. His tone was arrogant and self-satisfied.

And what did “coordinate properly” mean? Naturally, it meant working together to crush Lin Xian completely, making sure he could never recover!

Lin Xian mouthed at Tru; ‘A dishonorable victory.’

Tru lifted his chin; All’s fair in war. Hah!

The two bitter rivals completely ignored the clumsy, ugly, oversized mecha.

***

Si Yisi stood quietly inside the mecha, his mechanical fingers twitching slightly, producing a series of clicking sounds. What’s the point of having a finely crafted mecha? No matter how much money or effort one spent on it… I’d still smash it to pieces!

[The match is about to begin. Both teams, please prepare. Any contestant whose mecha sustains more than 80% damage will be automatically disqualified.]

[Now—battle, begin!]

The moment the announcement ended, Tru had just raised his mecha’s left-arm energy cannon to charge it when; That clumsy, green, sludge-like mecha suddenly spun like a whirlwind and charged straight at him!

The whirlwind came too fast, too fierce, prompting gasps from the audience watching via StarNet.

“How is that mecha so fast? Did they max out its escape attribute to 100%?!”

As soon as someone voiced this speculation, other spectators rushed to check its stats; only to see a glaring zero under the agility column!

Zero agility!

This is… this is completely illogical!

Tru saw the makeshift serpent-shaped mecha charging at him without any form of defense and laughed! This guy must have nerves of steel; or maybe just a death wish, charging in without even activating a protective shield? Ha! Then let me be the one to end your pathetic life! Know your place!

Convinced of his impending victory, Tru bent his mechanically enhanced elbow to guard his chest and rammed straight into the mecha piloted by Si Yisi, making no effort to dodge.

However, instead of lightly knocking the inferior mecha away like he had imagined, the moment it collided with his high-end mecha, it brought an unexpected surge of force!

Tru felt a heavy pressure in his chest, and the system’s warning sound echoed in his ears. [Warning! Warning! Mecha damage level has increased to 5%!]

What the hell…?! Tru stumbled back a few steps, caught from behind by Bai Lingqiu’s mecha.

Bai Lingqiu’s voice came through the comms, “Fall back. I’ll handle this.”

Tru clenched his mecha’s fist so tightly that it cracked. Before he could respond, Lin Xian’s gleeful voice rang out.

[Trulu, you idiot!]

Before the words had even faded, a light blade slashed across Lin Xian, instantly increasing his mecha’s damage level by 3%. Bai Lingqiu, piloting a sleek, all-white high-end mecha, dove toward Lin Xian!

As he descended, his mecha was surrounded by a halo of silver starlight; an unmistakable signature that instantly exposed Bai Lingqiu’s identity!

StarNet audience erupted.

“Oh my god… that’s… Silver Star War God!!”

“I can’t believe we’re seeing him in a match like this… Who on earth managed to hire him?!”

Bai Lingqiu was a highly renowned mecha pilot. The moment his identity was revealed, the bets favoring his team’s victory skyrocketed like a flood! Who would believe that a team with the Silver Star War God could possibly lose?

Even if he was only the runner-up of the last Dual Emperor Tournament, he was already at a level others could only dream of reaching!

“Tsk… I really want to rip that smug look off Tru’s face right now.” Lin Xian was so furious that he instinctively sent the message into the team’s shared communication channel.

Si Yisi saw the message, paused for a brief moment, then suddenly kicked out, knocking Bai Lingqiu’s attack off course. He landed beside Lin Xian in an instant!

During that split-second reaction, Si Yisi sent a private message to Lin Xian. “Do you want to completely humiliate that coward and crush him beyond recovery? Without that guy beside him, he’s useless.”

In just one exchange, Si Yisi had already figured out Tru’s skill level!

He had absolutely no combat awareness. Every move, every step he took, was all for show—nothing but flashy, useless gestures. If it weren’t for Bai Lingqiu helping him, even Lin Xian could have wiped the floor with him!

Lin Xian was caught off guard by the message, feeling both skeptical and excited.

The way he said it was so confident!

In that moment, Lin Xian completely forgot about the outdated mecha Si Yisi was piloting and instead recalled the precise, decisive way he had just blocked an attack for him.

Screw it—

“Of course I do!”

At that exact moment, both Si Yisi and Bai Lingqiu’s mechas came to a halt, sizing each other up, looking for an opening; waiting for the perfect moment to strike!

Bai Lingqiu’s combat sense was sharp. Even after such a short exchange, he had already realized that Si Yisi was no ordinary opponent! His instincts told him that Si Yisi’s mecha wasn’t high-grade. In fact, its attributes weren’t good at all, and yet, his speed and counterattack power were terrifying!

This guy is a formidable enemy!

He had achieved this level of combat purely through his own physical abilities and mental strength!

Taking advantage of the brief stalemate, Si Yisi quickly sent another message. “Alright, you hold off the pilot of the white mecha for me.”

Then, after a pause, he added, “Hmm… don’t focus on trying to kill him. Just make sure you don’t die too quickly!”

Going up against the Silver Star War God?!

For a second, Lin Xian thought Si Yisi was completely out of his mind! But then he thought about how miserable Tru might end up looking, and finally, he gritted his teeth and steeled himself!

“Alright! I’ll do my best!”

Just as Bai Lingqiu was preparing to engage Si Yisi in battle, the mecha beside him suddenly charged recklessly at him, entangling him in combat!

Tru was even more frustrated beyond words. He had just been imagining Bai Lingqiu slaughtering Lin Xian and that other guy, clearing the battlefield with ease, and himself standing victorious in all his glory; only to witness, in the very next second, his so-called guardian angel, Bai Lingqiu, getting forcefully tangled up by that lunatic Lin Xian!

“You… what the hell are you doing?!” Tru’s pupils shrank as he saw Si Yisi piloting his mecha, charging straight toward him. In a split second, he slammed every attack key at once!

The next second, an all-out barrage of energy blasts erupted, engulfing the entire arena in blinding white light!

The intense brightness stung Tru’s eyes, but he endured it, waiting eagerly to see Si Yisi’s mecha crash to the ground in ruin–Only to witness a completely unscathed mecha emerging from the white light, charging straight at him again!

His attack keys were still cooling down. This time, Tru had no choice but to engage in close-quarters combat!

Si Yisi burst through the lingering light and threw a straight punch at Tru’s jaw, sending him flying!

“Ah—!” Tru’s body was hurled high into the air before crashing down hard.

As he struggled mid-air, desperately trying to regain control, he suddenly saw that serpent-shaped mecha—Targeting him once again, leaping straight at him!
