The System Teaches You How to Be Human

Chapter 73 - The Slum Boy’s Desperate Counterattack (18)

After the screams of those noble cannon fodder students faded, Tru remained hidden in the shadows, idly playing with the ring on his finger, his expression one of smug satisfaction. A chilling smile crept onto his lips, concealing his deep-seated resentment toward Si Yisi. These negative emotions were almost transforming Tru into a monster.

The larvae, having caught the scent of fresh meat, went into a frenzy. In no time, the unfortunate students were stripped to nothing but bones!

Meanwhile, in the homes of these noble scions of the Kaz Empire, the parchment bearing their mental imprints suddenly vanished!

This signified their inevitable deaths.

When the parents and relatives of these noble students realized what had happened, their faces paled in horror. Without delay, they stormed toward the Anderson Military Academy’s administration, demanding answers.

“Midterm assessments; life and death are left to fate.” The academy’s official coldly dismissed them. A death or two during an assessment wasn’t uncommon, and they had all signed the agreement from the start.

However, not even half a day had passed before communication images began flooding in, overwhelming the signal and causing severe disruptions!

“What… another student casualty?!” The official pressed his lips into a tight line, finally realizing that the mass student deaths were anything but normal!

He immediately dropped all pending engagements and contacted both the academy and the military.

“Anderson Military Academy students conducting their assessment on the barren planet are suffering mass casualties due to an unknown cause… Requesting military intervention! I suspect that the Zerg, which were never completely eradicated from the barren planet, have returned!”

The moment Si Yisi set foot in the area, his expression shifted; he caught the scent of blood and the faint rustling of movement. Something was emerging from the ground!

At the same time, a sudden dryness cracked his lips, and an unbearable heat surged in his chest. A golden sheen flickered through his pupils.

Huo Jinren, attempting to ease his nerves, happened to turn his head; and his eyes landed directly on Si Yisi’s face, where a pair of golden, slit-pupiled eyes had formed!

Clatter!

The crossbow in Huo Jinren’s hands dropped to the ground.

His expression was one of sheer horror; golden, beast-like eyes were the very emblem of the Zerg, as publicly declared by the Empire! A shiver ran down his spine, his smile stiffened, and his neck twisted back as if he were a rusted machine forcing itself into motion.

Huo Jinren looked as though he was desperately trying to convince himself that what he had just seen was an illusion.

“You saw it.” Si Yisi’s tone remained indifferent, mercilessly shattering Huo Jinren’s delusion.

“I-I…” Huo Jinren’s exposed legs trembled violently.

“I have… a little connection to the Zerg. If you’re afraid of me, you can leave anytime.” Si Yisi spoke calmly before stepping past Huo Jinren, preparing to leave.

Behind him, Huo Jinren suddenly took a step forward and followed.

Si Yisi could even hear the chattering of his teeth, yet Huo Jinren still persisted, trailing after him step by step.

“I… I don’t care about the Zerg,” Huo Jinren bit his lip. “I only know that I trust you, and that’s… enough.”

Si Yisi smiled faintly, allowing Huo Jinren to walk behind him. He had judged him correctly. At the same time, Si Yisi knew that if Huo Jinren had chosen to act alone, there was an eighty percent chance he’d end up devoured by the invading Zerg, leaving nothing behind.

A single decision; life or death.

Si Yisi quickly picked up his pace, heading toward the heart of the blood-soaked battlefield!

This barren planet was vast, and it took Si Yisi 20 to 30 minutes to reach the area where the scent of blood was thickest. He stopped on the darkened soil, crouching down to pick up a few torn scraps of fabric.

“…Tru.”

Si Yisi studied the fabric fragments with an unreadable expression. They belonged to the noble students who had been following Tru!

The sudden resurgence of the Zerg hidden on this barren planet; Tru was definitely involved! This was an orchestrated hunt targeting Si Yisi, but his ruthless actions had likely doomed half of Anderson Military Academy’s students to death!

Si Yisi’s eyes darkened. Instinctively, his hand reached toward his waist; only to grasp at empty air. His dagger; that dangerous weapon had already been confiscated before he left the ship!

“Give me the wooden sword you made!” Si Yisi shouted at Huo Jinren, who tossed the sword in an arc, and it landed perfectly in Si Yisi’s palm.

In that instant, he used the sword’s landing moment to strike at Huo Jinren!

Huo Jinren’s mind went blank, and before his eyes appeared a dark, menacing figure. He jumped in fright, recognizing it as a long, vicious “worm,” its body a disgusting, sticky milky white. It slammed onto the ground, oozing a puddle of slime, much like a freshly born larva!

“My God, my God, my God!” Huo Jinren hadn’t yet recovered from his shock when he saw several of these “long worms” suddenly appear around him and Si Yisi!

Unlike Si Yisi, who could aim with deadly precision, Huo Jinren grabbed a homemade combat knife and recklessly thrust it at the creatures!

Then, Huo Jinren saw the worms’ eyes; golden vertical pupils gleaming with a sharp metallic sheen, covered by a thin membrane!

“Zerg… Zerg! How could they appear on this barren planet?!”

Si Yisi appeared to kill the young Zergs with ease, almost like slicing through a melon, but in truth, his body kept resisting the slaughter of these creatures!

It was a strange sensation. After Si Yisi stabbed the larvae with the wooden sword, he actually felt the same pain as if he were being killed!

It was as if his spirit had been tightly bound to that of the larvae!

Distorted murmurs constantly interfered with Si Yisi’s perception, but he didn’t even twitch an eyebrow. He simply repeated the stabbing and pulling motions, over and over again!

What did repeated experiences of death matter? As long as the spirit didn’t perish, the body could never become a restraint!

***

Tru, hidden in the shadows, nervously bit his nails. His right hand’s nails were already chewed down to uneven stubs. But Tru seemed impervious to the pain, his eyes wide open, fixated on Si Yisi!

So many Zerg, and you think your bravery will matter?! There will always come a time when your energy runs out and you’ll be consumed!

The excitement in Tru’s eyes grew, and the scent of blood from the dead Zerg made his pupils seem to glow with a blood-red hue.

Watching… it was eerily terrifying!

Si Yisi clearly sensed the malevolent, prying gaze from a particular direction, but his main task now was to clear the Zergs; Tru would be dealt with last!

Tru eagerly awaited the moment Si Yisi would tire, but instead, he saw the larvae charging at Si Yisi one after another, yet Si Yisi showed no signs of exhaustion! He even had the energy to help the panting Huo Jinren evade the attacks!

Time passed second by second, and Si Yisi’s clothes were drenched in blood. Yet, he stood firm, like a towering mountain, and the larvae approaching him couldn’t even get close. They could only passively take the beating!

No, no, no! Tru saw a pile of Zerg bodies scattered across the ground, but the number of Zergs around him visibly decreased!

Tru had no sense of crisis, instead, he was filled with more hatred; Was this the true talent of the Kaz Empire’s real prince?! Why am I just a fake?

That talent… It was supposed to be mine!

That’s it… I know what to do. Tru swiftly pulled out the hidden mecha button.

He had to take this perfect opportunity to capture Si’an alive, extract his blood, marrow, and genes, and turn his talent into a potion. Tru intended to completely seize Si Yisi’s revealed talent!

Just as Tru was about to make his move, Si Yisi’s actions remained steady. In the next moment, he grabbed Huo Jinren by the collar and quickly retreated several steps!

Boom!

The moment Si Yisi and the others stood firm, the entire barren planet seemed to shake. A massive gash appeared across the ground in front of them! This gash tore the earth apart, splitting it in half with a force comparable to the destruction caused by a large earthquake!

Si Yisi looked up and saw a long, silver-tipped tail. The tail had several bone spikes, each one gleaming with a chilling cold light at its tip!

There was no doubt, this gash had been created by that tail!

In front of them stood a beautiful woman with a figure to die for. Her eyes seemed to be completely filled with gold, with no whites visible at all, creating an intense sense of discomfort!

Huo Jinren instinctively took a step back and quickly tugged at Si Yisi’s sleeve.

This wasn’t like those larvae that even he could kill! Huo Jinren glanced at the seemingly bottomless crack, terrified to the point of nearly losing his mind.

Alina summoned a group of “weak” larvae to her side, then glanced at the numerous larvae corpses scattered across the ground. Her face suddenly swelled up!

They watched in horror as Alina’s delicate, beautiful face stretched apart, revealing the oversized eyes and deformed head beneath, as large as ping-pong balls!

The shock of that moment—indescribable!

“Kill… you! Disobedient thing!” Alina howled, her voice sounding like the melodious song of a yellow oriole. Her enormous eyes suddenly turned, and she leaped toward Si Yisi!

“Tsk…”

In this clash, Si Yisi felt the power of the Zerg before him. This was definitely not something that could be easily shaken! Fighting her almost bare-handed, Si Yisi only had about a 50% chance of winning.

Si Yisi dodged Alina’s successive attacks with her body and tail and took out the so-called child-grade mecha!

“Hiss!”

Si Yisi and Ah Tu looked at each other, realizing that the guy had somehow switched out with the infant mecha himself!

“Hisss~”

In an instant, Si Yisi understood Ah Tu’s intention; he wanted to fight alongside him!

“As you wish!” Si Yisi smiled. This time, Ah Tu was no longer just a sidekick in battle. He was fighting side by side—with him!

“Ha!” Alina sneered, “You think you can use this ugly thing?! As expected… it’s nothing but…!”

The two words she spoke in the middle were so soft, they didn’t even reach Si Yisi’s ears. But facing such blatant mockery, he simply remained silent, controlling the mecha and engaging in battle with the Zerg before him!

Ugly? No matter how ugly, it could still tear you apart!
