Chapter 1108: Chapter 1108 Still a Victory
"Damn it!" Boreas cursed.
He had wanted to take Mara alive so that he and his allies could pump her for information since she was a leader for a cult worshiping a Primeval Demon. There was no telling what else they were planning and when they would become a major threat to Borealia again.
Unfortunately, that was now impossible. Despite her body having been healed to pristine condition by the strongest medicine in the world, her soul was already gone. The item she had used to finish herself with instantly sent her soul to the demon she had pledged herself to.
"I'm sorry, I should have foreseen this possibility. She was just so prideful that I never thought she would take her own life." Alexandra said, wearing a bitter expression.
"No, it's not your fault, Alex. I should have acted faster. If only I hadn't hesitated."
Boreas looked towards the spine that Mara had used to kill herself with a look of disdain and trepidation.
Having reached level ninety-six, he had encountered his fair share of powerful entities since coming to Mirrion, but the power he could feel lingering within the blue spine was beyond anything else he had ever come across.
'And that is only a small part of it. How strong is a Primeval Demon? I've heard about them before, but I feel like even the myths around them don't come close to how dangerous they are in reality.' Boreas thought, feeling a cold sweat forming on his brow.
There were all manner of whispers surrounding what were known as the strongest of demons, but not any concrete information. As far as anyone knew, a Primeval Demon had not fully manifested on Mirrion.
Tales of powerful minions and sometimes partial manifestations were spoken about among the high-level community, but there was very little concreate information about Primeval Demons.
Even boreas knew only a few rumors about them, and the only person he could think of that might know something definite was the leader of the adventurers guild.
"Alex, I hate to ask this of you again, but could you restart your investigation. I understand that full infiltration will probably be impossible now but collect what information you can. So long as Vaughn is around, I feel certain that Borealia will be in danger."
Without Mara, they had lost a crucial source of information that they had been counting on. As one of the leaders of the organization she belonged to, it had been imperative that they capture her alive.
"Yeah, I'll get back to it. I at least now know about the other Eminences. There is some sort of creature that they are after that is located in the Virborg Trench, but I don't think we need to worry about it too much. From what I heard; the Grand Witches are attempting to seal away whatever it is.
I know that you met with a couple of them a few years ago, so now that our imminent problem is dealt with, you might want to reach out to them and give them a warning." Alexandra replied.
"What do you mean, 'Ill get back to it'. Clearly, you're just going to send me out to do all of the dirty work for you while you stay holed up some place, safe and sound." Alexandra's Flawless Clone commented bitingly.
"Oh, come on, you know that I don't just sit around doing nothing. Sure, I send you out on the most dangerous jobs, but I collect, consolidate, and disseminate all of the information that we gather. Plus, even if I did put myself in the most dangerous positions, we can switch places at any time. If I ever get into real trouble, I'll just swap you in at the last moment.
As long as I'm alive you can be brought back infinitely, but if I die, we both go." Alexandra argued.
Boreas soon grew bored with watching a routine he had seen countless times before. There was no one else that Alexandra or her Flawless Clone acted like this around. From what Boreas could tell, she just did not get along with herself.
'Now, let's see what else she had on her.'
Getting back to the matter at hand, Boreas began searching Mara body.
On her person and in a few magic bags, she had all manner of items. Some that were incredibly rare, others that were mundane, and many that were unbelievably disturbing ritual items for contacting or summoning demons.
"Doesn't look appear that she was carrying any documents with important information on them. If there was anything like that, it was probably in her item box and is now gone for good."
The only things that Boreas found that might provide any leads were around a dozen sending stones used for long range communication. With the right magic, skills, or items it would be possible to track where the signal was going. So with any luck, they would lead to her collaborators.
"I understand that you're frustrated, but don't let it eat away at you. We may not have achieved everything that we wanted, but we eliminated a major threat today." Alexandra said, attempting to console her longtime friend. "As for information, there were other cultist involved in the attack. I'm sure that some of them have been captured.
We may not be able to learn everything we were hoping to, but it should be enough to at least set them back for some time."
"Yeah, you're right. I've got to stay positive. If I go home with a dour look on my face, I'll make Safir cry." Boreas said, thinking about his young daughter to improve his mood. Your adventure awaits on m,v le,mpyr
After he, Alexandra, and her Flawless Clone had collected all of the relative items and completed a thorough search of the area, the three of them went their separate ways.
Boreas took off to return to Borealia to server as a protector for his family and home, while Alexandra and her Flawless Clone headed off to continue investigating the cult worshiping the Blue Primeval Demon.
