Chapter 29:
Chapter 29:
The data on the screen was shocking.
At first, when Jiang Feng claimed that Jiang Jiandang hadn’t spent any money on his mother and him, many people didn’t think much of it. They assumed it was just a small amount. Surely, he must have spent at least something.
But when the hard facts appeared on the screen, everyone fell silent.
In the past 20 years, the total amount of money Jiang Jiandang had spent on his family was absurdly low.
One bar of soap.
A roll of paper towels.
A bag of snacks.
A carton of milk.
Altogether, less than 200 yuan.
It was hard to believe.
Over 20 years, even if his salary had been just 4,000 yuan a month, he should have made over 10,000 yuan each year, adding up to at least 200,000 yuan in two decades. With bonuses and other benefits, he should have earned at least 300,000 yuan.
Yet, out of 300,000 yuan, he had spent less than 200 yuan on his own household?
The entire studio was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
“Oh, and by the way,” Jiang Feng added with a cold smile, “that 200 yuan? My father asked my mother to split the cost. In reality, he spent less than 100 yuan at home.”
He continued, voice dripping with sarcasm. “Everything—household bills, home renovations, the mortgage, my school fees, food—was paid for by my mother.”
The director, staying in sync with Jiang Feng, flipped to the next slide showing Song Lin’s expenses. Her spending was detailed and extensive, filling the screen.
The contrast between Song Lin’s contributions and Jiang Jiandang’s was undeniable.
The audience watching the live broadcast were dumbfounded.
[No wonder Song Lin wanted a divorce. If I were her, I’d have left long ago. Was she a wife or a live-in housekeeper? Actually, she was a housekeeper who paid for everything!]
[Is it just me, or is this going too far? Jiang Jiandang spends all his money on charity but leaves nothing for his wife and son? He lives off his wife’s money, yet expects her to sell their house to help others?]
[Hey, let’s not rush to conclusions. Mr. Jiang has a good heart; maybe we don’t have the whole story yet.]
[To those defending Jiang Jiandang, I hope you get a father just like him. Then we’ll see how you feel.]
Most viewers could see the truth. Song Lin had carried the financial burden for the family while Jiang Jiandang… where had all his money gone?
Even the host was at a loss for words.
Jiang Feng smiled coldly. “Oh, and that pair of sneakers my mother saved up to buy me for my birthday? I didn’t even get to wear them. My father saw them and gave them to He Minglang, saying how pitiful He Minglang was and that I should be more understanding.”
Jiang Jiandang turned pale. “Son, I—”
“You’re not my father,” Jiang Feng interrupted, his face emotionless. “You have all this sympathy for the people in the orphanage, but have you ever spared a thought for my mother? She has to wake up early to sell vegetables, rush to teach her classes, and then work a night shift at a stall. She’s so tired that she can barely stand.
“If it weren’t for her, I would have starved. My mother paid off the mortgage, and now you want to sell the house to help He Minglang? Have you even considered where we’ll live after selling it?”
“This… son! Money can be replaced, but lives are precious! A human life is worth more than money!”
“Oh, of course! You don’t see a problem with selling the house because you know my mother will pay for everything. She works hard, she earns the money, and yet you expect her to fund your so-called charity!
“You show off to the world with your little salary while pretending to be generous, and now you have the audacity to try and convince my mother not to divorce you? You just don’t want to pay the 200,000-yuan mortgage, do you?”
“You… you…” Jiang Jiandang stammered.
“But you know what?” Jiang Feng continued, his voice icy. “If this were just about money, I would think you were foolish, but not cruel. But what you’ve done afterward… it’s beyond anything I could imagine.”
He smirked and played a recording.
For Jiang Feng, there were countless ways to destroy Jiang Jiandang. He could easily make his life miserable. If he wanted, he could make sure Jiang Jiandang never recovered from the damage.
But for the sake of the original owner, Jiang Feng knew that what mattered most was exposing the truth. The original owner would have wanted the world to see Jiang Jiandang’s true, hypocritical nature. That’s why Jiang Feng came to the show, carefully gathering evidence to tear down the fake reputation his father had built.
If it were up to Jiang Feng alone, he would have taken a more direct approach. A sack and a beating would have sufficed. But this was bigger than that.
It was about showing everyone who Jiang Jiandang truly was.
