Chapter 972 - 970: Regretting One's Decision
Chapter 972: Chapter 970: Regretting One’s Decision
Wen Xin sat in the airport waiting room, holding her phone, and once again tried calling Mu Chengxi, but the response was the same as before: His phone was still off.
Chu Yunxuan watched Wen Xin’s actions, slowly moving closer to Wen Xin with a gossip-hungry look on her face.
“What’s wrong? Did you have a fight with your Mu family scion?”
Listening to Chu Yunxuan’s gossipy words, Wen Xin slowly turned her head to look at Chu Yunxuan, her eyebrows arching slightly.
“Yeah, we did have a fight, and it’s kind of serious, but it doesn’t matter. I can face those complex issues myself.”
Wen Xin didn’t put all her hopes for solving the issues in the Independent State on Mu Chengxi; she felt she could handle it on her own.
Seeing the expression on Wen Xin’s face, Chu Yunxuan tactfully closed her mouth and gently put her hand on Wen Xin’s shoulder.
“It’s okay, you’ve got us. We will definitely not let you be wronged.”
Wen Xin ignored Chu Yunxuan and just silently glanced at her watch, calculated the time, looked at the few people sitting in the waiting area, and stood up.
“It’s about time to board and depart.”
Walking in front, with Chu Yunxuan following behind, she held her phone and sent a message to Mu Nan, trying to get some information about Mu Chengxi and Wen Xin. It was the first time she had seen Wen Xin and Mu Chengxi fight.
Having sobered up from his drunkenness the next afternoon, Mu Chengxi patted his somewhat aching head, sat up in bed, and checked the time on the digital clock on the bedside table.
He crawled out of bed, thinking that fortunately he’d only slept for a little over an hour. If it had been longer, he might have missed the time to go to the Independent State with Wen Xin.
Mu Chengxi went into the bathroom, took a shower, changed into clean clothes, came out of the bedroom, grabbed his car keys, and left home.
After leaving home, Mu Chengxi sat in his car, glanced at the phone he had turned off, and didn’t hurry to power it on. Instead, he drove straight towards the Mu family’s old mansion, unconsciously speeding up as he was still worried about losing his temper with Wen Xin, afraid that she might be angry with him.
After all, Wen Xin’s temper was not to be trifled with.
The moment Mu Chengxi’s car stopped outside the Mu family’s old mansion, Mu Bei hurriedly ran out from inside, looking anxious as he approached Mu Chengxi.
“Master Xi, you’re finally back. Where were you last night? Miss Wen asked me to tell you she was waiting for you to go to the Independent State, but… we couldn’t contact you…”
Mu Bei’s words made Mu Chengxi, who was still somewhat groggy, instantly alert. He frowned slightly as he looked at Mu Bei, asking with some disbelief,
“What are you talking about? Are you saying I didn’t come back all night? Where’s Wen Xin?”
Mu Chengxi raised his hand to rub his slightly aching temples. It had never crossed his mind that he could’ve slept for so long; this meant that he had delayed Wen Xin’s plans, hadn’t he?
Watching Mu Chengxi’s frantic expression, Mu Bei somewhat sheepishly spoke, finding it hard to bring himself to say that Wen Xin had already left.
“Master Xi, Miss Wen already left Beijing yesterday; she went to the Independent State alone. I heard Young Master Qian and she left together, along with Miss Chu, and even Nan Xu left with Miss Wen.”
After Wen Xin left, Mu Bei began to inquire about these matters, for he was worried that Mu Chengxi would return and ask about them, lest he would be unable to answer.
Upon hearing Mu Bei’s words, Mu Chengxi’s originally deep eyes grew even colder. He had not expected Wen Xin to leave without waiting for him.
Without saying anything, Mu Chengxi pushed past Mu Bei, who was in front of him, and headed straight for his own courtyard, wanting to confirm whether Wen Xin really didn’t care about him.
Entering the bedroom, Mu Chengxi saw clothes strewn all over the bed. Faced with such a scene, he did not know how to describe his feelings at the moment.
Following Mu Chengxi into the room, Mu Bei saw him standing there. He deliberately lowered his voice and timidly said,
“Master Xi, actually, Miss Mu had already packed your luggage. But it seemed she couldn’t get through to your phone, so she threw all your clothes out and left with her own.”
Looking at the scene in the room, Mu Chengxi rubbed his sore temples. He began to regret, feeling that he had offended Wen Xin this time and was somewhat caught off guard.
Mu Chengxi walked into the room and asked Mu Bei to fetch his suitcase. He carefully folded each piece of clothing and placed them in the suitcase.
When Mu Chengxi had packed up everything, he looked up at Mu Bei, “Book a few plane tickets, we’re heading to Independent State.”
Hearing Mu Chengxi’s order, Mu Bei quickly stood up and walked out with his cellphone.
A few minutes later, Mu Bei hurried back from outside and spoke with a troubled look on his face.
“Master Xi, all the airports around Independent State have been completely shut down. I’m afraid… I’m afraid we can’t make it to Independent State.”
Mu Bei looked at Mu Chengxi with difficulty. He did not think this was a coincidence but felt someone had deliberately orchestrated it… Thus…
Mu Bei could think of this, so naturally, Mu Chengxi could too. He pulled out his cellphone from his pocket, looked at the still turned-off device, and felt some annoyance. He started to believe that he shouldn’t have been angry with Wen Xin; it seemed like he had made a big mistake.
He turned on his phone, and several missed call notifications popped up, including several from Wen Xin.
Mu Chengxi looked at the missed call notifications on his phone, dialed Wen Xin’s number, but a woman’s voice came through, “Sorry, the number you have dialed is out of service area…”
Mu Chengxi hung up the phone in resignation, sitting on the bed with a blank expression. Suddenly, he felt a void in his heart, as if he had lost something very important.
“No matter what it takes, I must go to Independent State…”
The first thing Wen Xin did upon reaching Independent State was to hack into the airport’s security system, causing the airport to become paralyzed. The entire Independent State was in a lock-down state, with no way in or out.
Wen Xin sat on the sofa with an indifferent face while Moore walked in carrying a fruit platter and placed it in front of Wen Xin.
“Have something to eat; you might feel unwell after the long flight. Rest up for now.”
Moore glanced at the time and spoke in a gentle tone, “Do you plan to make a surprise appearance at the Elders Guild meeting tomorrow? I’ve collated the opinions of those from the Elders Guild. I’ll go get them for you. Do you want to take a look?”
