A Faction of my Own

Chapter 6: Mercenaries

The crystals bumped my plans up by a lot, it helped in speeding up the process of my faction's growth. Needless to say, I was happy about the results.

"Unit List"

[Hero Unit]

Currently 0. Limit: [0/1]

[Commander Unit]

Currently 3. Limit: [3/3]

It seems that my first assumption was wrong in regards to commander units, it seems that I have a limit of only three in total. Though the number changing is a possibility, I'm happy with just filling the slots for now. Those slots are now filled in by a few of my original summons, those who have gone through the training facilities twice. Going into the facility for a second time is usually not allowed based on the warning notifications, but as long as a commander slot was open then a better unit will be available for me.

[Basic Unit]

Worker: 6

Infantry: 15

Scout: 6

Currently 28. Limit: [27/28]

With three watch towers adding 2 unit slots each, I now also had a higher upper limit with my basic units. I have no crystals left. The commander units upon upgrading are no longer counted as basic units, adding all of my units up I have a grand total of thirty people.

Three commanders, fifteen infantry units with differing kinds of weapons and six scout units all of which are now at tier two, everyone is capable of using internal energy. A squad among my ranks consists of a commander, five infantry units and a single marksman. The three other scouts are in their own watchtower keeping our base safe from intruders.

The three commanders consist of Hidalgo the Mace-bearer, Klaye the Polearm user and Marcus the Swordsman.

With knowledge of the kingdom still being active, a new plan popped into my head. "Our base will grow on its own but the problem we have right now is my lack of magic crystals. I can lead this area and the headquarters can create one basic unit once a month, this is a decent rate of growth but I know that we can do more."

"I'm going to send out two squads into the cities, register in these cities as mercenaries and gather as much crystals as you can. You will come back within a set amount of time... then we'll repeat it."

The nearest city is a week away by walking, we have no carriages. "That's an investment that we will have to think about later, for now go forth with this mission. Best of luck soldiers."

One party is on a long journey to get to the capital while the other is going to the nearest city that is one week away. Only one commander would be left with me, Hidalgo and I will be handling our main base of operations for now.

"With this plan, I should be able to summon a hero."

The current plan for the base involves the creation of a second barracks and the long awaited upgrade for my headquarters. While I'm confident that the groups I sent out will show great progress, I just hope that the kingdom does not catch on about my faction's creation. I don't know if they'll receive us cordially or not.

Which is why the cover that I provided for my group will be for them to act as parties from a mercenary faction, technically speaking it's not wrong of them to present us as such while they work to gather crystals.

Klaye's squad is headed for the city of Ashol, consisting of two macebearers and three spearmen his squad is catered to his liking. The master has been far too kind to him since he is one of the original spawns. Their scout, the crossbow wielding Greg is also an elite marksman capable of hitting a target that others would be barely able to see.

Among the three commanders Klaye has been the strictest when it comes to following orders and implementing them. The last thing he wants to do is to disappoint his master, they were all spawns of his. Though he doesn't consider them his children, they do consider him as something akin to a father or in Klaye's case... a god.

Though the city-folk themselves are safe and people are beginning to go back to their day to day lives the same can also be said to those that do not follow the rules. Back from hiding, bandits are present along paths waiting to prey upon refugees and unguarded carriages. An unsuspecting party of six.

Strength in numbers, even without the ability to use internal energy bandits can take advantage of most people without putting much effort.

They just chose the wrong group to do it to.

'If you get attacked, show no mercy and loot them for what they're worth. Let them know that our people is not to be trifled with.' The masters words rang in his ears.

His halberd began to burn with an orange flame.

Upon reaching the rank of commander his martial arts and internal energy techniques reached a new height. With a single swipe from his halberd he cleaved a few of them cutting them in half.

"Disappointing the Master will not be tolerated, take their heads." He ordered.

Marcus and his group had a long journey ahead, the capital city of Guando is easy to get to with some horses but with no access to this it would be an almost three week long trek. Their mission is to establish themselves within the city and to gain the much needed resources of their master, while also spreading his name.

Unlike the savage Hidalgo or the Cult-like devotion of Klaye, Marcus is the most mellowed out among the commanders. Marcus acts more like a knight than anything, his squad consists of three macebearers, two swordsmen and an archer.

While the youngest among the three commanders, he seems to be the most level-headed. He was chosen as the representative to enter the capital for this reason.

While Klaye has a time limit of only a month, Marcus has a six-month long mission with multiple objectives.

Objectives list:

- Gather at least three hundred magic crystals

- Buy horses and a carriage

- Gain information on the ruling powers of the capital

- Survive and return within the next six months.

This small list is engraved into the mind of Marcus, without the looming threat of demons, his group took down a few bandits here and there before finally reaching the capital.
