A Professor of Magic at Hogwarts

Chapter 533: Brewing and Felix Harp - (2)

The traits possessed by the Elder Wand enable it to accumulate knowledge and spellcasting habits from multiple owners over extended periods. Felix pondered over how Gellert Grindelwald treated his wand as a partner and mentor, using its power and his own knowledge to craft "The Darkest Arts"...

Dumbledore explicitly stated that the Elder Wand doesn't think or communicate like a person; it faithfully records, doesn't it?

Considering its past owners were all powerful, even a few who were not so adept left a vivid mark in history because they were manipulated by the sinister knowledge concealed within the wand.

Felix sighed deeply.

As for why the specific wizard crafted the Elder Wand in such a manner remains unknown. Nevertheless, Felix himself harbored strong doubts about the existence of the Grim Reaper, given that Antioch Peverell lived in the 15th century, well before any similar legends surfaced...

Assuming others' intentions, Felix speculated that the wizard who crafted the Elder Wand was an exceedingly skilled alchemist and wandmaker. As for the reasons... perhaps it was a spur-of-the-moment decision or part of an experiment.

Some of Nicolas Flamel's notes widened Felix's perspective. One of them was about the legend of the Philosopher's Stone:

"People often harbor strong curiosity about the unknown. If they cannot explain it, they tend to fill in the gaps with their existing knowledge, whether wizard or Muggle.

Take, for example, the folk tale of the Philosopher's Stone; I can think of at least a dozen ways to make it a reality, excluding some mere illusions (like using a Traceless Extension Charm to hide a batch of gold beforehand, allowing one to sit back and enjoy the show), and there are more intricate operations (which indeed align with the Stone's purported functions and were convincing enough in ancient times when information was limited):

The specific method involves attaching certain imperceptible devices to alchemical items. These devices possess a strong affinity for gold and are designed to strike when Muggles are asleep, pilfering the wealth of some unsuspecting merchant miles away.

It's not a difficult feat, and during that era, Muggles (usually simple farmers) would simply marvel at possessing a treasure that seemed to produce gold on its own—an alchemical stone. They wouldn't suspect that this newfound wealth actually belonged to someone else. If executed cleverly enough, the stolen gold could be transfigured into a fixed shape, bearing a unique mark...

In my long life, I've witnessed similar behaviors firsthand, hence I've always been cautious about my work's dissemination. My research is purely for the sake of study, although I cannot rule out a bet I made with Peregrine..."

Felix strolled by the Black Lake, relishing the breeze's caress. Watching Valen chase after a butterfly, his scarf fluttering high behind, filled him with immense satisfaction.

In summary, does the world truly have a Grim Reaper? He wasn't sure. However, unless the Reaper stood before him and he couldn't prevail, the question held no practical significance—be it the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, or Invisibility Cloak; he perceived them all as products of an extraordinarily skilled alchemist.

If encountered, he'd borrow them for research purposes.

This conviction led him to believe that there was no need to obsess over the Elder Wand and the Grim Reaper.

He held methods for crafting numerous magical items like the Philosopher's Stone, Horcruxes, and even a Time-Turner. Time energy was not in short supply for him.

"If there truly is a Grim Reaper in the world, I'd rather you appear before me and shatter my worldview..." Felix muttered softly, but soon changed his mind, "Well, perhaps a few years later, so we could sit and chat about magic."

On his way back, he heard movement behind him, turning to see Harry, Ron, and Hermione emerging from behind a pillar.

"Perfect timing, I wanted to find you," he said to Harry.

"Professor," Harry panted, "We've heard some rumors, and now everyone is guessing where your wand came from."

"You should clarify this; letting it go unchecked will only lead to wild speculations," Hermione added.

The first two had said their piece, and when it was Ron's turn, all he could do was nod vigorously.

"So, are they skipping the truth and assuming I possess the Elder Wand?" Felix chuckled, "Don't worry, someone will help explain. Wait for the latest paper. Instead, I'm curious about their next steps—will they choose to believe a story that sounds plausible or go to great lengths to uncover the truth, even if it means risking everything?"

Harry and the others were genuinely taken aback by his words, frozen in place. Felix continued, "I mean those with ulterior motives, dark wizards."

The trio immediately chuckled, "Oh, of course, what else could it be?"

"Here, Harry, this is from Mr. Slughorn," Felix tossed a vial containing Felix Felicis to Harry.

"Mr. Slughorn?" Harry caught the vial, gazing at the gleaming golden liquid inside, casually shaking it. The golden droplets danced like fish. He asked in confusion, "What is this?"

Hermione covered her mouth, "Oh, goodness, oh my."

"Felix Felicis," Felix replied.

Harry still didn't get it. Most of his time in Potions class was spent lazing around; he had low expectations for the subject and was satisfied with passing. The lower-level textbooks didn't cover Felix Felicis.

Felix looked at Hermione, knowing she'd provide an explanation, a win-win situation.

"Felix Felicis, it has another name—Liquid Luck! Its effect brings good fortune, making everything you do go smoothly," Hermione said, recalling seeing this rare potion in her second year from the professor—she was trying to gather information on Polyjuice Potion, and the professor presented several potent potions, including Felix Felicis, which looked identical to the small vial Harry held.

As expected, Harry and Ron both widened their eyes. Harry felt the vial in his hand was scalding; he couldn't remember how it ended up there from the professor.

"Right," Felix nodded to Hermione and then turned to Harry, "You can ask Miss Granger about the precautions and prohibitions regarding this potion. Also, let me ask, you don't actually believe potions can change your luck, do you?"

Harry stared blankly at him, "Isn't that the case?"

"Let me explain," Felix said to them, "Have you ever experienced feeling inadequate in some crucial situation due to nervousness? Later, you regret not performing better, thinking if you could redo it, you'd excel?"

The three contemplated.

"I think that way after every exam," Ron muttered, "Can Felix Felicis help with that?"

Felix smiled, "If you haven't been exposed to that knowledge before, its potential is quite limited. Felix Felicis unlocks your potential, making you sharper, more accurate in judgment, as if everything is within your grasp... allowing you to do things you wouldn't dare consider under normal circumstances. But the truth is, you already possess that potential."

Harry looked at the potion in his hand, his fervor gradually subsiding.

"So... Felix Felicis brings good luck but doesn't grant wishes," he said.

Felix nodded with a faint smile.

Suddenly, Harry widened

his eyes, "Wait, the Professor's Pensieve—doesn't that have a similar effect? Isn't one of its functions accelerating thought processes, similar to Felix Felicis' effects?"

"Ah," Felix said slyly, "Don't you know? Spells and potions' effects can substitute for each other. So, to some extent, your idea isn't entirely wrong." Like his name, he could bring 'luck' at any time.
