A Psyker's reincarnation

Chapter 6: The palace

The call of duty and honour. Its consequences are heavy.

There was no time for tearful farewells or sentimentality when he was separated from his parents.

A Custodes took him in his arms and, without ever turning back, brought me into the Imperial Palace.

Farewell to my parents and family, farewell to freedom and opportunity, farewell to the luxuries of nobility and wealth, and farewell to the prospect of a peaceful life.

As we passed through the massive gates of the palace, my life as a Custodes aspirant began.

What lay ahead was an endless battle for survival, filled with duty and.

My trials would be harsh, and my future would be bleak.

Being chosen for this role didn't make me feel joyful as I was overwhelmed with anxiety and fear about whether I could even survive.

With a touch of humour, I thought to myself, "There's nothing we can do."

This little joke managed to cheer me up a bit.

I should try to think positively instead of giving in to a fatalistic view of things.

Either way, I had no choice but to accept my new reality. It would be pointless and depressing to dwell on it.

Instead, I focused on the present and took in the view inside the palace.

The massive frame of the palace was built in a style that combined Gothic and Renaissance elements, creating a unique architectural masterpiece.

Every decoration was meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of majestic grandeur.

This luxurious yet subtle effect was achieved through the careful combination of different fabrics, tapestries, rare metals, and gems.

The projected aesthetics evoked a sense of pleasure, a mixture of reverence and awe.

Throughout the journey, gigantic statues and paintings adorned the walls, depicting epic battles and victories, or simply portraits of important military figures from the past.

It would be easy to spend days here admiring every inch of this beautiful place.

Unfortunately, i was here for a different reason, and the custodian holding him moved purposefully towards an unknown location.

Despite his giant's legs, which covered more ground in a single step than ten men could, his march seemed never-ending.

The palace was said to be so large that it covered an entire continent, or so some people claimed.

The Custodes were present throughout, standing at attention and ever watchful as they performed their duties.

The security protocols they had to pass through were exhaustive, and he was handed over to different Custodes several times during his journey through the palace's labyrinthine corridors.

The design seemed to have been created with the intention of confusing you so much that you would lose your way and never manage to find it again, and he did not try to do so.

He felt himself growing increasingly tired. His body was still young, and a lot of time had passed since he woke up that morning.

Against his will, he fell asleep.

After an unknown amount of time had passed, he finally woke up.

The first thing he noticed was not his immediate surroundings, but the absence of the daemonic presence that he had always sensed in the Warp.

Instead he felt the familiar and ever-present warmth of the Emperor's psychic light, as if it was pushing chaos away and banishing it from his presence.

It filled him with a sense of comfort and wellbeing. It was as if he was growing stronger simply by being closer to this light.

He felt a sense of reverence towards the Emperor.

He understood how the Emperor had come to inspire hope and respect in so many people.

He had led his race on a crusade for survival, aspiring to usher in a golden age for them.

However, his dreams were shattered, and his ideals and vision were betrayed.

But was that really the truth?

Were the events of the past ten millennia and the betrayal of his 'sons' really failures?

Or was it still part of the Emperor grand vision for the success of his goals?

What exactly were his goals?

Did he want humanity to achieve victories against their enemies at any cost?

Was his goal to create an enlightened society?

Or was his objective something else entirely?

In his past life, he had heard of an interesting theory called the Gospel of Judas.

According to this theory, Judas, the famous traitor who led Jesus to his death, was actually the most loyal and true believer of Jesus.

His act was not one of selfish betrayal, but of absolute faith and obedience.

According to Judas, Jesus himself had chosen him to betray him and lead him to his death,as it was God's plan for Jesus to sacrifice his mortal flesh in order to save humanity.

He found the theory interesting and could not help but draw some parallels between Horus and the Emperor.

There were also rumors that Jesus was acutally the Emperor in disgused.

Once you started thinking about things from this perspective, you found that you had more questions than answers.

Did the Emperor act against the advice of his closest companions and advisers when he created the Primarchs for the sole purpose of military conquest?

Or were they intended to be apostles of his vision? Was Horus destined to betray him, just as Judas betrayed Jesus?

Did Horus fatally wound the Emperor to enable him to shed his mortal coil and ascend to godhood, and was this the Emperor's ultimate goal?

This was merely conjecture, naturally, and he could not possibly imagine the thoughts of such an individual as the Emperor.

His mind returned to the present situation as he turned his head from side to side, trying to take in his surroundings.

He saw row upon row of children lined up in their beds — they had clearly been grouped together.

With nothing else to do, he was about to resume his psychic training when he heard a noise in the distance that grew louder as it approached.

He then saw the people responsible for the commotion: a group of individuals taking the children one by one and putting them in carts before leading them out of the room.

It wasn't long before it was his turn. As he climbed into the cart, he wondered what would happen next.
