Chapter 143: [143] Departure (End of This Volume)
"Please, tell me your name!"
Once again, it was a dream.
But this time, Roy didn't appear in an ancient European town or on a ship at sea. Instead, it was a modern cityscape filled with towering skyscrapers and flashing neon lights.
This wasn't the third time.
It was the ninth connected dream.
The blonde girl wore what looked like a school uniform, seeming a bit older than in the dream from last night—not just taller, but with longer hair and a more graceful figure.
A long time must have passed for her.
On the wide sidewalk, the girl clutched Roy's chest collar tightly, her face full of anxiety. Her emerald eyes were imploring, glossy with tears that seemed ready to spill, fragile as if about to shatter.
Seeing Roy was like a traveler in a desert spotting an oasis—a last straw of hope in despair.
Her posture naturally stirred pity.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a cold gleam shot through the air.
The target was the blonde girl's back!
But she didn't seem to notice at all—her tearful eyes were fixed completely on him.
Roy reached out.
His hand landed on her back, snapping shut on the incoming weapon.
It was a kunai—short-handled, pitch black—exactly like the kind ninjas use.
Roy flipped the kunai along its trajectory and threw it away.
The kunai flew like an arrow in the dark, too fast even for a shadow to catch, hitting something with a muffled grunt in the corner.
Roy's gaze rested on the blonde girl in his arms.
This wasn't the first time she'd asked Roy's name.
Since the third dream, she had tried to ask him his name, or where he was from... but every time the dream broke before she got an answer.
"My name is Roy."
Crack!
The empty space suddenly echoed with a crisp shattering sound—like a mirror falling to the ground.
"I should be coming over in a couple of days—or no, in your time, it should be soon. When I arrive, I hope you'll take care of me."
Roy looked at the girl in his arms, their eyes meeting in mutual pleading, and answered with a sigh.
Her desperation mirrored exactly how he had felt on the trial platform at Uemon clan, striking a chord deep inside him.
He couldn't ignore a girl who looked at him like that.
It was for the best.
He was going to visit her world anyway; having a local contact was a good thing.
The girl finally received the answer she'd waited years for, her face lighting up with joy.
"Roy... okay, I understand, I'm C—"
She tried to introduce herself.
But before she could finish, the cracks suddenly spread, and the dream collapsed again.
Roy woke up.
It was still midnight, the room clean and bright.
Moonlight streamed through the window, casting frost-like white light on the floor.
Beside him lay a girl with thick black hair, her face streaked with two tear marks—probably from exhaustion, she was now sound asleep.
Roy didn't wake Utaha; he quietly got up, dressed, and went outside.
He had wanted some solitude, but when he reached the corridor, he saw a familiar figure sitting there.
"Touko, can't sleep this late either?"
Roy approached and sat down beside Touko.
"At times like this, I always think about that night."
Touko wore a coat and stared up at the night sky. The moon wasn't full but still bright.
Roy said nothing.
Though Touko didn't mention it outright, he knew exactly which night she meant.
Touko lowered her head and looked at Roy beside her.
Only a few days had passed, but Roy had changed drastically.
His body was no longer unhealthy—he was very healthy now.
He had grown taller, muscles perfectly toned—not bulky, but streamlined, as if designed precisely that way.
The fragile feeling from before had vanished, replaced by a strong, well-built young man. Being near him brought a sudden sense of security.
Only his white hair and red eyes remained unchanged—something Roy insisted on.
With Touko's help, Roy's progress in human anatomy had been remarkable. In just a few days, he had mastered the basics of Tiamat's various abilities. With continued practice, in a few months, he'd be able to use them effortlessly.
Thanks to this, his body had been completely reborn.
His physical abilities skyrocketed to monstrous levels, and his genetic defects were fully corrected—indistinguishable from a real human now. He even helped Illya complete her transformation from homunculus to human.
Touko's heart was full of emotion.
This was the boy she had raised.
Now he had grown into someone so dependable.
At this moment, her feelings were even more complicated than they had been for Aoko before.
"Roy, do you know why I care so much about you?"
Maybe it was the moonlight, but Touko's heart fluttered, and she couldn't help but want to reveal her feelings.
"Why?"
"Because I'm unwilling to accept defeat."
Touko's gaze darkened.
"My grandfather wanted me to inherit Magic. I worked hard all my life for that. When Aoko could play with friends and join bands, I was stuck in the back mountain cave, alone, learning Magic from my grandfather."
"But you know how it turned out—Aoko inherited the Magic. That was Grandfather's decision. Just one sentence easily overturned everything I'd worked for since I was a child, reducing all my efforts to nothing…"
"Of course, I've long since come to terms with it. It's definitely best that Aoko inherited the Magic. I just need to live my own life. But still, there's a little bit of resentment left."
Roy didn't interrupt.
He didn't ask what exactly Touko was resentful about.
Because she soon spoke on her own.
"—I want to create a monster that surpasses Magicians."
Touko turned to look Roy in the eyes and smiled as she said this.
Throughout her life, Touko had encountered many pairs of Mystic Eyes—even some powerful enough to rival myths—but she had never thought this way before.
Until she met Roy.
His Mystic Eyes controlled all forms of magecraft, reminding her of the legendary King of Magecraft.
She could see the immense ambition hidden in Roy's heart.
She felt Roy might be the monster she was searching for.
That's why things became like this.
This was the reason Touko would never allow Aoko to steal the credit for "raising Roy." Helping Roy break the curse at the cost of her own body was one of her gambles.
Touko had no romantic feelings for Roy.
She had only one expectation for him.
"Roy, if you want to repay me, then go conquer Aoko. Make her admit defeat to me with her own mouth. That's my only wish."
Touko took off her glasses, a cold smile on her face.
If it had been before, she wasn't sure if Roy could surpass Aoko.
But now, she was certain that Roy could!
"...To be honest, I feel a bit conflicted."
Roy sighed, looking somewhat discouraged.
"I actually hoped you helped me because of my charm, or maybe because you had some vague feelings for me… Guess I'm just too narcissistic."
"If you beat Aoko, then I'll probably fall in love with you."
Touko smiled.
Whether she was teasing or serious, no one could tell.
"Well then, just watch!"
Roy rolled up his sleeves, striking a passionate pose.
"I definitely won't disappoint you!"

Ten days passed quickly.
On this day—
"Roy, take this!"
Rin returned from City Hall, confidently tossing a box she was carrying onto Roy's feet.
Roy opened it, blinking at the dazzling gold inside.
"Did you sell the city of Fuyuki?!"
The box was filled with gold, silver, and jewels!
"No way."
Rin rolled her eyes without caring about her image, then laughed proudly.
"The Mage's Association branch got destroyed, right? I had the construction crew dig around, and they unearthed tons of treasure! Haha, we're rich now!"
Wow! The old folks really did explode with gold!
Roy accepted the treasure.
Soon after—
A single leaf drifted down before him, tracing the words "Ready to depart."
Then, a pitch-black "door" opened right in front of Roy.
Behind it lay a completely unknown new world.
Roy glanced back.
Except for Aoko, who had disappeared somewhere unknown, Touko, Utaha, Hayasaka, Ichika and Miku, Rin, and Illya were all gathered in the courtyard.
"I'm off!"
"Be careful."
Touko nodded, giving her final advice.
Roy waved and, under the watchful eyes of all the girls, stepped into the dark door.
"But come to think of it… did I forget something?"
At the same time—
Outside the world—
A figure was wandering anxiously, searching for something.
"Master! Master, where are you?! Damn it, it's all my fault… Master, don't worry, if I can't find you, Taikoubou will never return in this lifetime!"
