Absolute Death Game

Chapter 21: Tomb Raider's Talisman

Despite longing for more powerful items, the people of the Immortal Realm still held etiquette in the highest regard. Therefore, I bowed with a cupped-hand salute and said cheerily, "Esteemed guest, if you seek mightier treasures, you might consider visiting the Golden Immortal Palace atop the city in Fairy City. While I have an abundance of items here, most are mundane. In contrast, the wares within the Golden Immortal Palace are crafted by immortals themselves, each an exceptional piece. However, the prices," the shopkeeper chuckled, "let's just say they're beyond the reach of the average person. But going there to broaden your horizons is still worthwhile." These words were reasonable and exceedingly polite, yet they grated on Xiao Buli's ears. Alas, it seemed he must remain down to earth and earn money quickly before even thinking about making purchases.

Hence, without further ado, after summoning Yi Xuan, the two of us dashed towards the outskirts of the city. Find more chapters on My Virtual Library Empire

Following Xuanxu Zi's previous instructions, Xiao Buli knew that Soaring Cloud Peak, where Immortal Cranes gathered, was located near the city gates of Penglai Immortal City. Once outside the gates, Xiao Buli looked around and soon spotted the peak, its middle shrouded in white clouds that swirled around it like a ladder to the heavens.

Among the drifting clouds, numerous Immortal Cranes spiraled and danced. These cranes bore a striking resemblance to those Jingji kept in the Mystic Hollow Palace, but somehow, as they soared in the air, these cranes seemed to possess an even more ethereal grace.

Xiao Buli signaled Yi Xuan, and they quickly reached the foot of the peak. Clambering up the rocky surface surrounding the mountain, they ascended its steep and perilous slopes. Fortunately, the rocks were well-defined, and since both were adept in Qinggong, their ascent wasn't overly difficult. For Xiao Buli, experiencing the vistas of the game in real life for the first time was exhilarating. Halfway up, he glanced down, his heart pounding with fear at the dizzying height—wondering how much health he would lose if he fell. Yi Xuan, in comparison, seemed far more composed, for him the height was no more than a few centimeters on a computer screen.

Halfway up the mountain, they could see many nests of Immortal Cranes. Unlike Jingji's cranes, which were kept in captivity, these wild cranes built their nests on the cliffside, much like eagles, creating large structures out of branches, some containing chicks or eggs.

These Immortal Cranes weren't afraid of humans. Some lay in their nests incubating eggs and curiously watched the newcomers approach, some even daringly walked around them. Xiao Buli noticed that these cranes were neutral creatures and wouldn't attack unprovoked. He had climbed up intending to catch one as a mount, but the terrain was so steep that there was hardly enough space for two people to stand on the cliff ledge, let alone engage in combat.

His Taming Skills should have been able to Tame the Immortal Cranes, but regrettably, he had exchanged that ability for the Sealing Skill. Although the Sealing Skill allowed him to conceal animals, Summon them at will, and had a healing function, to Tame an animal required reducing it to On the Verge of Death. Considering there were well over a thousand Immortal Cranes, a fight could quickly lead to being overwhelmed and beaten to death. Moreover, as this was the Immortal Realm, even these seemingly gentle cranes likely possessed formidable strength.

"Xiao, this doesn't seem like a good place to catch Immortal Cranes. I don't know Taming Skills, do you have any good ideas?" Yi Xuan typed, stirring a sense of frustration in Xiao Buli, who was already feeling defeated by his inability to catch a crane.

He sighed deeply, turned to look at Yi Xuan, and helplessly shrugged his shoulders—a habitual gesture of Xiao Buli that clearly conveyed his powerlessness.

However, this simple action utterly bewildered Yi Xuan,

"Xiao, what was that shoulder shrug just now?"

"Huh, that? It's in the gesture and expression menu, didn't you know?" Xiao Buli, not in the mood to get sidetracked, replied absently: "Let's go down. It doesn't seem easy to catch Immortal Beasts here." While speaking, he looked down. The old saying goes that it's easier to go up a mountain than to come down, especially such a steep cliff. When climbing up, it was possible to see and use protruding rocks for leverage, but descending was not so easy, since one's feet couldn't scout the way—a moment of inattention could lead to a calamitous fall.

"There are gesture and expression actions in the game? How come I never noticed." While Yi Xuan intended to continue his inquiry, he saw Xiao Buli let go of the rock he was holding and, with a leap, jump down. The sudden move made him cry out, "Xiao!"

But Xiao Buli didn't fall far, steadying himself on another rocky outcrop, gripping the cliffside firmly. He had already prepared for this, realizing that climbing down step by step could take an eternity. He decided to rappel quickly instead—after all, with the Cloud Thunder Leap ability at his disposal, if the situation turned dire he could simply soar skyward.

Yi Xuan wasn't willing to take such a risk and started to descend cautiously. Luckily, he controlled his movements through the computer, which didn't require as much fuss. As if having eyes in the back of his head, he moved smoothly, keeping pace with Xiao Buli, who noticed the advantages that came with using a computer.

They continued their descent without pause.

As for the Immortal Cranes, they would have to see if they could find enough Spirit Stones later. If possible, purchasing one with money might be the solution.
