Chapter 18: Wrath of the Overlord
The sky above twisted and churned, shrouded in ominous, blackened clouds. A suffocating pressure descended upon the battlefield as the massive shadow from the heavens began to take shape. Its outline was monstrous—a grotesque fusion of wings, claws, and a hundred searing red eyes, all glaring down at Zhang Yong.
From within the darkness, a voice thundered, shaking the very ground.
"YOU DARE SLAY MY AVATAR, MORTAL?"
The voice was cold, ancient, and filled with immeasurable rage. The ground cracked and splintered beneath its power, and even the air seemed to tremble.
Zhang Yong stood unfazed, his blade resting casually on his shoulder. His golden aura flared to life, pushing back against the oppressive darkness. "Your avatar was weak. I did the world a favor by erasing him."
The monstrous figure roared, its sound echoing across the ruined land. Tendrils of darkness lashed out from its form, tearing through the earth and splitting boulders like they were paper. Zhang Yong didn't move, his gaze locked on the monstrosity.
Lilith, standing a few paces behind, let out a low whistle. "Big guy looks angry. Should I sit this one out too, or do you want some help?"
Zhang Yong smirked without turning. "Stay back. If you get in my way, you'll just slow me down."
Lilith pouted but stepped aside, her scythe resting on her shoulder. "Fine, fine. Just don't make it too quick—I like watching you work."
The shadow beast extended one of its massive claws, aiming it directly at Zhang Yong. The space around the claw warped and twisted, black energy distorting reality itself.
"YOU ARE NOTHING BEFORE ME! KNEEL AND BEG FOR YOUR LIFE!"
Zhang Yong laughed, his voice ringing out clear and strong. "Kneel? You must be new here."
In a flash, he disappeared from sight, reappearing directly in front of the claw. With a single, fluid motion, his blade carved through the darkness, severing the massive appendage. The beast howled in pain, black ichor raining from the wound like a torrential storm.
The ground hissed and melted where the ichor landed, but Zhang Yong was already on the move. His blade gleamed with golden light, cutting through the tendrils of darkness as they whipped toward him.
The beast roared again, its form shifting and expanding. Dozens of eyes focused on Zhang Yong, each glowing with a sinister red light. Beams of destructive energy erupted from them, converging on him with devastating force.
But Zhang Yong didn't falter. He raised his hand, and the Absolute Krishna Domain expanded around him, its radiant golden light nullifying the beams before they could reach him. The beast's attacks dissipated like smoke, leaving it momentarily stunned.
Zhang Yong seized the opportunity, leaping into the air and slashing downward with all his might. His blade connected with the beast's torso, carving a massive, glowing wound into its form. The golden energy spread like wildfire, consuming the creature's shadowy body.
The beast screamed, its voice filled with agony and rage. "THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE! A MORTAL CANNOT POSSESS SUCH POWER!"
Zhang Yong landed gracefully, his blade dripping with the beast's dark essence. He turned to face the writhing monstrosity, his expression calm but unyielding. "I'm no mere mortal. I'm the last pure human—and I'm done with gods and monsters like you thinking they own this world."
The beast's form began to collapse, its body disintegrating under the relentless assault of Zhang Yong's golden energy. But even as it died, its voice echoed one final warning.
"YOU MAY HAVE WON THIS BATTLE, BUT THE TRUE OVERLORDS ARE WATCHING. YOUR DEFIANCE WILL NOT GO UNPUNISHED!"
With a final, deafening roar, the beast exploded into a cloud of black mist, which was quickly swallowed by the golden light of the Absolute Krishna Domain. The battlefield fell silent once more.
Lilith sauntered over, her grin as wide as ever. "Well, that was dramatic. You've got a real talent for pissing off powerful beings, you know that?"
Zhang Yong sheathed his blade, his eyes scanning the horizon. "Let them come. I'll tear down anyone who thinks they can claim Earth."
Lilith chuckled, twirling her scythe. "You're gonna make things very interesting, aren't you?"
