Chapter 28: The Abyss Stirs

The night was thick with the scent of blood. The battlefield, once teeming with arrogant warriors, had become a graveyard of shattered corpses. The ground was slick with crimson, reflecting the cold moonlight. But for Zhang Yong, this was just another step toward absolute domination.

He wiped the blood off his hands, his eyes devoid of sympathy. His latest conquest, the Dark Guardian, knelt before him, his body still trembling from the transformation. The man was no longer who he once was—his soul had been reforged under Zhang Yong's absolute power.

Lilith approached from behind, her luscious lips curling into a smirk. "You truly have no hesitation, do you?"

Zhang Yong turned to her, his gaze sharp. "Hesitation is for the weak."

Lilith chuckled, stepping closer, her fingers tracing his arm. "That's why I like you," she whispered. "You're ruthless. And that makes you… irresistible."

Before Zhang Yong could respond, his system interface flickered before his eyes.

[System Notification: New Threat Detected.]

His eyes narrowed.

A ripple in space twisted before him, and from within the darkness, a figure emerged.

He was tall, draped in tattered black robes, his skin pale as death itself. His eyes gleamed like molten gold, carrying the weight of untold slaughter.

"You must be Zhang Yong," the figure said, his voice like a thousand whispers converging into one. "The world trembles at your name, but I see nothing more than a mortal playing with power beyond his understanding."

Zhang Yong smirked, cracking his knuckles. "And who the hell are you supposed to be?"

The figure spread his arms, and the very air trembled. Shadows congealed behind him, taking monstrous forms—twisted abominations of flesh and darkness.

"I am Xel'Thalos, Lord of the Abyss," he declared. "And I am here to test whether you are truly worthy of the fear you've sown."

Lilith's expression turned serious. "Abyssal Lords… they don't usually meddle in mortal affairs," she murmured. "This is bad."

Zhang Yong, however, only grinned.

"Bad?" he chuckled. "For him, maybe."

He took a step forward, his killing intent surging like a tidal wave.

The battlefield was not done drinking blood just yet.
