Chapter 2: A Despicable Alliance
"Arch Magos, the Imperial designated Grand Moff Tarkin requests to speak to you." "Accept his vox call."
Two servitors shuffled in front of my command throne they were modified to hold a screen which they raised shakily to my eye level. The screen activated.
"Grand Moff Tarkin it is a pleasure." "Arch Magos, I have read the report submitted by my lieutenant who inspected your ship and I find it most interesting. You and your order could be most useful to the empire if your claimed production capacity can be scaled up." "If you would give us a planet to mine and a planet to convert into a forge world we could make anything you require." "If that is a case I suggest we meet in person to sign a temporary alliance until a proper one can be drawn up with the emperor's permission and oversight wich will permit you to have the resources you need to construct the facilities for production. Do we have a deal?" "Yes, Moff Tarkin. Is there any neutral ground on which this treaty can be signed?" "The 3rd planet from the star can be considered neutral ground shall we meet there." "That is permissible. We will arrive in 4 standard hours."
The call ends. I send a request for a scribe to draw up a treaty.
"Move us closer to the designated planet."
The deck becomes a fluid rush of movement as the priests rush to move the ship once we are in orbit. A scribe rushes onto the deck falls to his knees and presents me a scroll detailing the treaty it is adaptable. I raise myself out of my seat, wires and tubes hiss as they disconnect from me. I lean on my cane and begin to make my way down the steps. Tech-priests moved to attention as I passed and Skitarii Alpha approached.
"Arch Magos your body guards are assembled and two Castilian robots are being deployed to ensure your protection." "Has Magos Falsen been informed I will need her assistance in this." "She has Arch Magos, she will meet you in docking bay 1."
I strode on the Arch Magos's Will falling into step behind me. As I walk into Docking bay 1 Magos Falsen approached and bowed.
"Arch Magos, your personal ship is ready, the Castilian robots and their attendants have already been loaded onto it, along with the gifts" "Thank you Magos."
I walk into my ship. It was a modified Aquila Lander outfitted for my purposes some had protested at my request to modify it however after they had a think and a software update they agreed that to disobey me was to disobey the machine god and shut up and got on with it. As we descend to the planet I finish my calculations. Without the navigator we cannot even consider returning through the warp storm that sent us here and the choir can't get in contact with any others, if they don't make progress soon I will have them work on the psychic sound weapon project. This temporary alliance would be of great use to us until we can contact the Mechanicus until then I will ensure that this galaxy cannot function without the mechanicus even if that means destroying the competition. We land the servitor pilot bringing us in to land smoothly. And I stand, I shift my weight so I lean heavily on my cane and adopt a shuffling gate. I walk onto the landing pad. Magos Falsen falls into step on my left with the gifts and the Arch Magos's Hand falls into formation with the Castilian Robots bringing up the rear. We approach Lieutenant Grant.
"Welcome Arch Magos it is a pleasure to meet you in person." "Ah Lieutenant Grant how are you not to unsettled by your inspection I hope." "Of course not Arch Magos. I will escort you to Moff Tarkin your guards must remain outside."
He is a poor liar. A single command flows across the vox and the Arch Magos's Will moves to guard the lander along with the Castilian Robots. We follow Lieutenant Grant until we enter a room. It is impracticably large with a vaulted ceiling that supports nothing. At the other end is a window which Moff Tarkin is looking out of, by the machine he is dramatic. He turns.
"Arch Magos it is a pleasure to meet you in person." "The pleasure is all mine Moff Tarkin we have brought you 2 gifts." Two servitors shuffle forward. "Thank you arch Magos."
He can barely conceal his disgust as he gazes on the servitors but he accepts them. He jestures to the desk in front of him where a data pad holds the empire's version of our agreement. One of my mechandrites emerges from my robe holding the scroll. Which I lay out on the table. I check the data pad and Moff Tarkin checks the scroll we both ask for minor changes thankfully one of the attendants for a Castilian robot has a scribe augment and is able to make the changes while one of Tarkins officers adjusts the data pad. When we are both happy and both copies are similar Moff Tarin takes the quill Magos Falsen hands him I sign on the data slate in high gothic and he signs the scroll in NL-001 the first language we encountered in this galaxy. Magos Falsen takes the scroll and tucks it into her robes.
"Well Moff Tarkin I predict this will be a most profitable alliance. Now I was wondering if you would like to show your peers the wisdom of this alliance by organising a military demonstration say a squad of my Skitarii and a squad of your Stormtroopers compete in group activities and we end with an air show?" "That sounds like an excellent idea shall we have this demonstration in a standard week. "Yes, Moff Tarkin that sounds acceptable we shall return to this location in a week."
I make my way back to my shuttle and we return to the Holy Gladius. Once aboard I summon the council of Magos's.
"Today I have signed an alliance that will secure our foothold in this galaxy with this we can build a relationship with this empire that is a reflection of the relationship we have with the imperium. Now what have you to report?"
Magos Arches of the Ordo Genetors raised his claw.
"I have been studying the holonet that we managed to patch a cogitator into from our investigations we have found that the majority of sentient xenos life is human like and to purge them would be a long and resource intensive operation so I propose expanding the Abhuman definition matrix to include a wider collection of xeno life this would allow us to utilise the newly defined abhumans as labours and serfs and would lower the resources dedicated to producing a human work force." "All in favour."
Over half the Magos's raised some form of limb and Magos Arches's proposal was accepted.
"How has the research into what planets meet our requirements gone?
Magos BC-119 of the Ordo Logi raised a hand.
"We have located two planets one is a desert planet called Tattooine. It is ruled by a repulsive creature designated Jabba the Hutt who commands an extensive criminal network that plagues the planet if we were to free the people from its rule we could take over with little resistance. From our research it is not mined so an equitorial strip mine could result in base resources that would assist in our recommendations for the second world a planet called Geonosis. It is an irradiated planet with a hiveminded insectoid sentient species that dominates it it has industrial capacity, we recommend sterilising the natives and putting them in work camps to be worked to extinction. The two planets are very close to each other which reduces the requirements for resource transportation." "All in favour?"
Everyone raises some form of limb.
"I will propose these suggestions to Moff Tarkin in a week. I have organised a military demonstration with Moff Tarkin so a division of the Skitarri Rangers need to be prepared for this demonstration and a squad of fury interceptors need to be prepared. This demonstration will allow us to show the members of this empire the strength of the Mechanicus and will facilitate them to be more receptive to our requests. How has the research of what schematics we can find on there holonet."
Magos Ss-296 of the Ordo Magi raised a claw and activates the holo table.
"We have found two schematics that were worth investigating we found them on some form of black market site that had poor security. The first is the schematics for a Bacta Tank a fedical device that uses a substance called bacta to encourage healing in a subject it appears to not be as quick as our own healing stems however it appears to place less of a strain on the subjects body. The next is something called an Agressive ReConnaissance-170 star fighter it was apparently used in a war 5 galactic years ago by a faction called the republic it has several inefficiencies such as relying on 3 personnel and some form of abominable intelligence to operate all of these can be suplimented by servitors with possibly a single pilot as required. Due to this galaxy having a lesser technology level than the mechanicus I would suggest classifying them as Primotus Technos and permit the modification of their technology with our own superior technology.
He is using a loophole in the rules of the mechanicus that allow minor innovations with more primitive technology's as they are not considered blessings from the machine god I myself have used this classification to perform minor modifications with technology's that I found that no one could prove weren't of human origin.
"All in favour."
Over half the table raises a limb.
"Your request has been granted Magos Ss-296 all technology that cannot be proven to not be of human or abhuman origin is designated Primotus Technos however any technology that can be proven to be xenos in origin will be handed over to the ordo Xenos for study and storage."
Magos Ss-296 bows his head. We discuss a few issues that had sprung up on the ship mainly a serf rebellion and how we now needed both more surfs and work for servitors we finish with a prayer to the machine.
The alliance I have signed with the mechanicus is a risk if they can't deliver on their claims then my reputation will take a hit but if they can come through on their claims then I will be the man who found the solution to the empires industrial issues. While I agree that we need a new naval fleet replacing the clone army is greatly costing the empire and if the mechanicus can produce as they claim it will greatly alleviate the pressure on the industrial sector. Hopefully the emperor will see this from my perspective and won't send Lord Vader to oversee the coming demonstration I don't need him antagonising the mechanicus then again if the rumours about him are true they may get on swimmingly. This is quickly becoming a headache I will have to work out who to invite to the demonstration I need people who will appreciate whatever display the mechanicus puts on but they also need to be smart enough to not insult the mechanicus by reacting to their appearance or their 'servitors' those while efficient at cleaning the floor they are definitely horrifying yet if the mechanicus uses humans like this it might explain how they can dislike droids and operate a ship that size. I am truly interested in seeing what the mechanicus troops will be like if they are anything like the Arch Magos then I hope they don't bring live ammunition I don't fancy footing the bill for the rebuilding of the practice ground.
