Chapter 16: The Moon and the Wolf (1)

"This is a surprise, Harry."

"Headmaster Dumbledore," Harry greeted as he entered the old man's office. Albus looked at him with a bit of curiosity, especially when he thought about where Harry had been these days. Thanks to Arabella Figg he knew that, from one moment to the next, Harry had completely disappeared. She had seen that he had not arrived home with the Dursleys and had not seen him.

"What can I do for you?... Although I have to say that I am a bit surprised to see you at Hogwarts during these times of vacation, especially since I thought you would stay after the ball."

Harry nodded, and noticed Dumbledore's unspoken question, but he was curious to know where Harry Potter had been.

"I was comfortable and fine. But I came with a request."

Albus looked down a little, to see Harry over his glasses, now he seemed to be much more curious.

Seeing the headmaster's expression, he understood that he could continue to talk about his request. Harry inhaled a little before exhaling and looking seriously at the Hogwarts headmaster.

"I was doing some studying... and I got curious about curses, especially the one that causes the transformation of werewolves. So, I was wondering if you could give me some kind of information or book for me to read."

Albus frowned a little, but looked at Harry showing a bit of enthusiasm. He knew that Harry was not at all stupid and would not abuse information or discoveries. The fact that he had not done anything wrong with his discovery of the connection to use magic was clear proof.

"I could do that, help you find information. But, in exchange, I want you to promise me some things," Albus said seriously.

Harry looked at him for a few moments in thought, before speaking, "As long as they're not too demanding or go against my beliefs and abilities, I could do it."

Albus nodded and held up a finger, "First, you can't give the information to other people. While information is very helpful, in the wrong hands it's dangerous."

Harry nodded and Albus held up a second finger, "Second, if you find something really relevant in your research, I want you to reveal it to the world. Perhaps, this will give a little hope to the werewolves who are harmed and are really good people."

"Wouldn't that go a little against the first promise?"

"No... the first promise was not to give away the information I'm going to give you. The result may be different and with less dangerous information."

"Good..."

"And third, I want to be the first to know your results. I suspect it would be just as interesting and revealing as your discovery of the magical core and the magic in the environment along with its connections."

Harry sighed before nodding. Dumbledore stood up before walking to the back of the office. He slowly climbed one of the stairs in the back and entered a room. A few minutes later, he came out with a book that looked a bit old and dusty. When Harry received it in his hands, he noticed that it was much thinner than at first glance, as well as light. The book was black, but it looked grayer because of the deterioration it had. The pages were more yellowish than normal and it looked fragile.

"Be careful with him, he's a bit old and may have some... disturbing information."

Harry bowed slightly, "Thank you for your help, Headmaster."

"Don't worry, I'll wait for your results," Albus smiled slightly before watching Harry leave his office. But suddenly, he heard Fawkes squeal a little.

"Huh?... Why did I give him that so easily?...", Albus smiled a little harder, "It's because I can no longer see Harry as a simple child with a tragic fate. I feel that he could bring revolutionary results to the wizarding world."

"Besides...", Albus sighed a little at that moment. "I feel inside me that the next time he meets Voldemort, it won't be the same. I have high hopes that he will end up defeating Tom without too much trouble."

"After a long time, I can see the light at the end of the dark path that had enveloped magical Britain."

Fawkes squeaked a little quieter before obviously relaxing.

. . .

"Well... shit," Harry muttered as he finished reading the book Dumbledore handed him. Even though it was only fifty pages long, he took his time to read and carefully understand the book. But, he could now understand the reason for the first promise the headmaster made him make.

The book not only seemed to contain a bit of history about werewolves, but also dark details about a group of them who performed rituals in ancient times. In the book, it said that if a werewolf drank magical human blood after his first transformation, he became much stronger and could better control his transformations.

Of course, most of it just seemed to be tall tales and scary stuff. But, there were important details that could be overlooked. For example, the fact that it was related to the moon. A werewolf would involuntarily transform at the full moon, but it also described some things related to some phases of the moon. Thanks to this, he realized some importance of the moon in magic. For example, ingredients for potions and the same would then have to be under the light of some phase of the moon. This clearly showed that the moon had some kind of effect on certain magical things.

But, the important question was: How was this possible?

In the book it was mentioned that after the transformation of the full moon ended, the werewolf now in his human form, would feel tired, sleepy and a little susceptible to anger. Likewise, a little before the transformation, he would be more angry and aggressive, where he would become deadly when the transformation began.

"This, in addition to containing the form of ancient werewolf rituals, turned out to be somewhat useful. But now I need information about the moon," Harry frowned a little. "More specifically, what effect it might have on magic. It might well cause some kind of change in the magical particles and thus the connection between spiritual energy."

Harry leaned back heavily in his chair and let his arms hang down, a little tired of thinking so much. But he was also motivated to find some solution for Moony. He hadn't had much of a connection with the man, but he knew he was kind and a good person. And he understood his reasons for not visiting him sooner or looking out for him as James Potter's friend.

Fear and insecurity... that's what he might feel having been with a one-year-old child, especially when he didn't have the means to raise someone that age.

Harry got up from his chair and walked out of the small house, sitting on the grass in the forest and starting to meditate. His first thought was to meditate, concentrating on the magical particles in the environment; it was still daylight, so it would take time for night to come. But, as he meditated by sensing the magic particles, he would slowly and controlledly enter his sage mode, to better sense if the moon influenced anything.

The energy of nature existed in this world in the form of magic particles, but it was much less than in the shinobi world. The advancement of humanity along with their creations and constructions had decimated a lot of nature, causing the energy of nature to steadily decrease over time, so it would take him longer to enter sage mode. Not as much as hours, but Harry wanted to do it slowly so he could feel everything more clearly.

Slowly, he could begin to sense the magic particles all around him, with a little bit entering his body very slowly. Within twelve hours, he was already surrounded by some birds, small animals, even a deer watching from a little further away. The moon was already high in the sky, shining and illuminating the darkness of some parts of the world.

There was a crescent moon in the night sky, and Harry could feel the magical particles changing... No, it was more like they were undergoing some kind of empowerment. When he opened his eyes, he froze a little in surprise. No one could see the magical particles, it shouldn't be possible. But, right now, there were small lights in front of his eyes surrounding the entire place.

The lights were small, much smaller than a glowing firefly. They looked like tiny stars seen from far away, like the ones you see in the sky, but clearly, these magical particles were close to Harry. And, most surprisingly, he could feel that the ones slowly entering his body had more power than he normally felt. Thanks to his sage mode, he could determine the quality and power of the magical particles entering his body.

He hadn't felt it before, but now he could clearly feel it.

At this moment, Harry understood that the moon phases could increase the power of the magical particles. But, at the same time, this discovery made him understand that he could decrease their power in some other lunar phase.

"Now I really need information from the moon," Harry muttered, still surprised.
