Chapter 57: Husband~
Chapter 57: Husband~
“Who is that?”
Ye Shu was stunned by the sudden appearance of the figure.
The red attire made him instinctively think of Senior Sister Nie Qing. However, this figure was much slimmer and more delicate than Nie Qing. The glimpse he caught of her face was breathtakingly beautiful, almost otherworldly, as if it didn’t belong to this realm.
Ye Shu quickly turned around, trying to locate her, but the direction where the red figure had vanished showed no trace of her!
Not even the vengeful spirits seemed to notice her.
“What’s going on?” Ye Shu frowned, sensing that the strange aura hadn’t disappeared, yet there was no sign of her in the surroundings.
“How odd!”
Just as he was scratching his head in confusion, Senior Sister Nie Qing and Third Senior Sister Lan Caidie arrived, stepping up from the staircase.
Seeing Ye Shu looking around in confusion, they asked, “What’s wrong, Junior Brother?”
Ye Shu asked, “Senior Sisters, did you see a woman in red, incredibly beautiful, running in that direction?”
Lan Caidie immediately covered her mouth and chuckled. “You’re not talking about Senior Sister Nie Qing, are you?”
As she spoke, she glanced meaningfully at Nie Qing, who was indeed wearing red and was undeniably beautiful, matching Ye Shu’s description.
“No, it’s not Senior Sister Nie Qing. It’s someone else. I’m not lying,” Ye Shu said earnestly.
Lan Caidie scanned the area but found nothing unusual. She complained, “Stop being so paranoid. There’s no one else here except vengeful spirits. You must be hallucinating.”
Even Senior Sister Nie Qing chimed in, “Junior Brother Ye, you’re overthinking this. There shouldn’t be anyone else here. You must have seen wrong.”
After saying this, she waved her hand, signaling Ye Shu to come closer and not wander too far.
“Sigh.”
Ye Shu didn’t know how to explain it. Although it was just a fleeting moment, the impression it left felt incredibly real. It was a face of unparalleled beauty, the kind you could never forget after just one glance. Could it really have been a hallucination?
He pondered deeply for a moment.
Finally, he sighed.
“I must have seen wrong.”
Ye Shu reluctantly nodded, deciding not to dwell on it any further.
Turning his attention back to the countless vengeful spirits, he began his harvest!
These spirits were relatively strong, averaging at the peak of the Foundation Establishment stage, slightly weaker than Senior Sister Bai Rourou but stronger than the average Foundation Establishment cultivator.
Ye Shu handled them with ease, but he couldn’t shake the memory of that red figure. He felt as though that fleeting presence hadn’t truly disappeared and might be watching him from some hidden corner.
While absorbing the spirits, he continued to search for clues, but after a long while, he still found nothing.
Instead, during his battles with the spirits, he managed to break through to the next stage of cultivation.
He had reached the mid-Golden Core realm!
He felt a surge of energy within his body, and his Golden Core became even more solid and radiant. It was a wonderful feeling.
After a while…
“Next floor.”
To his disappointment, even after clearing the second floor with the two Senior Sisters, he found no trace of the red figure.
Reluctantly, he decided to put the matter aside for now and continue to the next level of the Slaughter Tower.
“Let’s go, Junior Brother.”
The two Senior Sisters stepped onto the staircase and called out to Ye Shu, who was still lingering on the second floor, his gaze fixed on the surroundings.
Ye Shu remained silent for a moment, then shook his head and followed. “I’m coming, Senior Sisters.”
Just as he was leaving, a stunning woman in a red wedding dress, half-covered by a red veil, slowly descended from the shadows behind him. Her blood-red eyes followed his figure as he stepped onto the next floor.
“Hehe~”
Her crimson pupils contracted slightly, and she extended a slender, jade-like hand. Her pale, almost sickly complexion broke into a hauntingly eerie smile.
“Husband~”
After saying this, she transformed into a shadow once more, disappearing into the darkness. No trace of her could be seen with the naked eye, but her presence lingered, following the trio as they ascended to the third floor.
On the third floor, Ye Shu’s frown deepened. He could clearly feel the pressure here.
Although the number of vengeful spirits on this floor was fewer than on the first and second floors—only about a third of the second floor’s count—their strength was nothing to scoff at.
Each of them was at the Golden Core stage!
This time, Nie Qing absolutely refused to let Ye Shu take the lead.
“Junior Brother, you’ve just broken through, and your foundation isn’t stable yet. These spirits are stronger—stay back!” Nie Qing’s tone was stern as she glared at Ye Shu.
Ye Shu, of course, wasn’t happy about this. Such a great opportunity couldn’t be wasted.
He took a step forward.
“Don’t you dare!”
But Nie Qing’s expression made it clear that if he took another step, she would deal with him first.
Ye Shu rubbed his head, feeling a headache coming on. “Seriously, you’re not even going to let me fight? This is unnecessary!”
“Senior Sister, why are you being so protective of him? This is a chance to train and improve. Why are you hiding him behind and making him to be a coward?”” Lan Caidie chuckled, watching the strange scene unfold.
Nie Qing shot her a glare. “This is none of your business. Focus on your own task.”
“Tch!”
Lan Caidie rolled her eyes but didn’t press further. Her gaze lingered on Ye Shu, and she flashed him a meaningful smile.
“What’s she smiling about?”
Ye Shu felt a chill run down his spine. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Lan Caidie had some ulterior motive, though he couldn’t quite figure out what it was.
Whatever. He’d just observe for now.
Since Senior Sister Nie Qing was being so overbearing, he decided not to argue. Once the fighting started, would she really be able to keep an eye on him?
“I’ll just sit back and watch.”
Ye Shu even pulled out a small stool from his spatial pouch and sat down comfortably, watching the situation unfold.
As he sat there, his eyes narrowed.
He sensed that aura again, growing stronger and stronger.
But no matter where he looked, he couldn’t find any trace of her.
An illusion?
Could an illusion feel this real?
Ye Shu gripped the hilt of his Great Silver Sword, his nerves on edge. He was ready to draw his sword at any moment, prepared to react if she appeared again.
While he was busy battling the air, the two Senior Sisters weren’t having an easy time.
They quickly dispatched a few vengeful spirits, but then a deep, guttural roar echoed from the depths of the tower. A ferocious, menacing spirit with a ferocious face and malicious aura emerged, its pitch-black eyes glaring at the two women.
It spoke, its voice filled with dark energy: “I’ll kill you!”
“It has intelligence! Be careful, Junior Sister!” Nie Qing shouted to Lan Caidie.
“Understood.”
Lan Caidie’s expression turned serious. She knew that a vengeful spirit with intelligence was no ordinary foe.
The Slaughter Tower, forged by the Blood Slaughter Sect from countless corpses, birthed vengeful spirits for cultivators to slay for power. Yet, left unchecked, some grew cunning in the darkness, evolving into ghost cultivators.
The hulking, menacing spirit before them was one such ghost cultivator—and it was at least at the Nascent Soul stage!
