Chapter 11:
Chapter 11: I’ll Go With You:
“Heh, I can see you’re really eager. But too bad—Shiyue and I are legally married. As long as I don’t agree to a divorce, no one can come between us.”
“Do you really think that just because Shiyue met with you, he’s completely moved on? We just had a little misunderstanding. He’s acting out of anger and impulsively reached out to you. I don’t blame him.”
“As for you, let me give you a piece of advice—if you know what’s good for you, leave now. Stop being an eyesore.”
Lin Muyao looked Gu Nianchu up and down with disdain, as if convinced that she meant nothing to me.
Hearing her self-righteous words, I found it utterly ridiculous.
Cheating was nothing more than a “little misunderstanding” in her eyes. Clearly, she still had no concept of boundaries.
Gu Nianchu turned to look at me, her expression unchanged.
“Brother Shiyue, this is between you two. It’s not my place to interfere. I’ll take my leave first.”
Lin Muyao assumed Gu Nianchu was backing off because of her words and smirked in satisfaction. She grabbed my hand, her tone triumphant.
“Now, that’s the smart choice. No matter how many arguments we have, we’re still the closest people to each other. What place does a stranger have in our marriage? Let’s go.”
I shook off her hand and took a step back, widening the distance between us.
“Wait. I’ll go with her.”
“Huh?” Gu Nianchu’s eyes widened in shock. She pointed at herself uncertainly. “Me?”
“Yes. It’s too noisy here. Let’s go somewhere quieter to talk.”
“…Okay.” Gu Nianchu clearly hadn’t expected me to say that. She hesitated for a moment before clutching her purse nervously and nodding.
“What did you just say, Shiyue? You’re going with this woman?” Lin Muyao’s voice rose, a mixture of disbelief and anger.
“Did I not make myself clear? I told you the moment you landed in North City that I had plans this afternoon. I don’t have time to meet you.”
“But you have time for her? Shiyue, did you forget how you used to say I was the only woman you’d ever love? That I’d always come first? I came all the way from Beijing with my heart in my hands, and now… everything has changed?”
“Did it only change today, Lin Muyao? Everything that happened, you caused it yourself. You have no one else to blame.”
“I don’t know what you still want to talk about, but I have other plans right now. You’ll have to wait.”
After saying that, I glanced at Gu Nianchu and walked away.
Lin Muyao suddenly lunged forward and grabbed my arm, her face filled with panic and fury. “What’s your relationship with this woman? Why do you have to meet her today of all days? Is this all just to get back at me?”
I sneered. Lin Muyao really had a way of making up stories in her head.
She was so upset seeing me with another woman—did she ever stop to think how I felt when I saw her being intimate with Zhang Wangchuan?
Since she insisted on an explanation, I didn’t mind giving her one that would completely shatter her delusions.
“Let me introduce you two properly.”
“This is my blind date. Founder of Yageli High Jewelry, current CEO of Sheng’an Group, and heiress of the Gu family in North City—Gu Nianchu.”
“And this,” I gestured towards Lin Muyao, “is my ex-wife—Lin Muyao, sales manager of IE Corporation in Beijing.”
Lin Muyao’s expression visibly darkened.
The contrast between their identities was stark.
“Shiyue, you’re exaggerating just to make me mad. Do you think I’d believe this?”
“She’s so impressive, yet she’d still agree to a blind date with a divorced man? Or does Miss Gu have some unspeakable reason for settling?”
“And what’s wrong with being divorced?” Gu Nianchu smiled slightly. “Everyone has the right to pursue happiness. I think someone as good as Brother Shiyue deserves the best. Don’t you agree?”
“You—”
“As for whether my identity is real or not, feel free to verify it, Miss Lin.”
Gu Nianchu carried herself with the grace and confidence of someone raised in a prestigious family. Her tone was calm yet cutting, leaving Lin Muyao momentarily speechless.
Lin Muyao’s eyes were filled with jealousy and resentment as she glared at Gu Nianchu.
I raised an eyebrow.
It seemed like Gu Nianchu was quite different when dealing with others compared to how she acted around me.
There were quite a few people around for afternoon tea, and I had no interest in continuing this farce with Lin Muyao in public. Without another word, I turned and left with Gu Nianchu.
Lin Muyao called after me twice, but when she saw I wasn’t turning back, she didn’t chase after me.
After dropping Gu Nianchu off, I returned to the Half-Mountain Villa.
The entire day had been ruined by Lin Muyao’s interference, and I wasn’t in the mood to linger outside any longer.
When I arrived home, Grandpa looked surprised.
“You’re back so early? Did the blind date not go well? Was Nianchu not a good match?”
I chuckled helplessly. I hadn’t even sat down yet, and Grandpa was already firing off questions.
“There was just a little situation, so I came back early. There’s no ‘going well’ or ‘not going well.’ Nianchu and I have always been friends. This was just a casual meeting. Don’t overthink it, Grandpa.”
“I sent you on a blind date, and you’re talking about being ‘just friends’ with her? And what do you mean by ‘a little situation’?”
I didn’t answer immediately. I picked up a cup from the coffee table and took a sip of water, debating whether or not to tell Grandpa about Lin Muyao coming to North City.
“What? Is there something you can’t tell me?”
“No, Grandpa. I just don’t want to make you worry.”
“Tch, you underestimate me. What could possibly worry me? As long as you’re doing well, I’m happy.”
I smiled. He had a point. Grandpa had always been open-minded and resilient.
“It’s about Lin Muyao…”
“Dad, I’m back.”
Before I could finish, a voice interrupted.
I turned towards the entrance, and my expression instantly darkened.
It was the one person I never wanted to see in my life—my so-called father, Song Ancheng.
If not for him, my mother wouldn’t have died.
A lifetime of debauchery, and now he had the audacity to come back?
I didn’t even want to look at him. I immediately stood up to leave.
“Xiao Yue, you’re back too? How rare. After all these years, you still remember this house?”
Song Ancheng’s first words to me were dripping with sarcasm.
He had always despised me because Grandpa only acknowledged me as the heir to the Song family.
Of course, the shares Grandpa gave him were enough for him to live comfortably for the rest of his life.
But because of his own incompetence—and his illegitimate children outside—Grandpa had completely given up on him.
“Oh? So this is Shiyue?”
A shrill voice echoed through the living room.
Only then did I notice a woman standing beside Song Ancheng.
She was dressed in a tight, low-cut dress that emphasized her curves, but her face was artificially sculpted, an exaggerated beauty that made my stomach churn.
To think that my father had abandoned my mother—a kind, elegant, and beautiful woman—for women like this.
Disgusting.
“Why are you here?” Grandpa’s face soured as he looked at Song Ancheng, clearly displeased.
It was obvious that Song Ancheng didn’t visit often.
Otherwise, Grandpa wouldn’t have reacted this way.
