Chapter 14:
Chapter 14: Acknowledging Only One Grandson:
“Shut the door!”
My grandfather had also heard what was going on outside and angrily ordered the servants to close the door.
Did they really think the Song family was full of fools? They were putting on a ridiculous act outside, but no one in this house would be fooled by it.
I helped my grandfather sit down on the sofa and poured him a cup of tea.
“Grandpa, calm down. Don’t let them get to you.”
“Sigh… How did I end up with such a disgraceful son? Xiao Yue, you’re my only hope now.”
“I will fulfill my duty as the rightful heir of the Song family, Grandpa.”
“Good child. Don’t worry, I will never acknowledge those children from outside. I’m only waiting for you to get married and have children. Holding my great-grandchild in my arms—that is what true happiness looks like.”
I chuckled helplessly, telling him that these things couldn’t be rushed.
The two of them had no face to stay any longer and slunk away in embarrassment. But I knew Song Ancheng wouldn’t just let this go, especially now that I was back in Beicheng.
After chatting with my grandfather for a while, I got a call from Fu Ze, asking me to come out for drinks.
He said that Gu Nianchu would be there too, just the three of us. I agreed.
Soon, I would have to start familiarizing myself with the Song Group’s headquarters in Beicheng, which meant I wouldn’t have much free time to spend with them anymore.
When I arrived at our usual spot, Gu Nianchu and Fu Ze were already there.
Seeing Gu Nianchu reminded me of the blind date from this afternoon, but she seemed completely unbothered by it.
“Shi Yue-ge, you’re finally here. If you had taken any longer, Fu Ze would have been completely wasted.”
I looked at Fu Ze. His face was already flushed, and he did seem to have had more than a few drinks.
“What’s up with him? Why is he drinking so hard?”
“Isn’t it obvious? He got dumped. Turns out, the goddess he had been admiring was actually being kept by a rich man. So now he’s drinking his sorrows away.”
Gu Nianchu shrugged indifferently as if she had seen this scenario play out too many times before.
“Hah, and here I thought it was something serious. Fu Ze, I thought you always prided yourself on being a man of many conquests but no attachments. What, did you actually fall for someone this time?”
I poured myself a drink and clinked glasses with him.
“Brother, you don’t understand. She was different. I really thought she was a pure, innocent girl. I spent all that money supporting her acting career and never once tried to take advantage of her. And then I find out she had multiple sugar daddies the whole time…”
“Haven’t you ever heard the saying, ‘A woman’s heart is as deep as the ocean’? And when it comes to women in the entertainment industry, they’ll play you like a fiddle if you’re not careful.”
Gu Nianchu rested her chin on her hand and looked at Fu Ze with a hint of disappointment, as if she expected better from him.
Speaking of the entertainment industry, I suddenly thought of someone—Zhang Wangchuan.
Wasn’t he also one of those washed-up actors? Back then, he had tried every trick in the book to cozy up to big names in the industry, but when that failed, he shamelessly crawled back to his ex.
And just as I had that thought, I received a call from his ex—Lin Muyao.
Seeing her name on the screen, I instinctively declined the call.
Gu Nianchu noticed and hesitated before asking, “Why aren’t you answering?”
“I don’t want to. There’s nothing left to say.”
Just as I finished speaking, my phone started ringing again. I was about to decline it again when Gu Nianchu stopped me.
“It might be something urgent. Maybe you should answer.”
I frowned, staring at the flashing screen, hesitating. After all, Lin Muyao was alone in Beicheng now.
After a moment of consideration, I picked up the call.
“Shi Yue… where are you…”
Her voice was thick with sobs, and her words were slurred.
“What do you want?” My tone was cold.
“I miss you… sob… I really know I was wrong. I love you…”
There was noise in the background, making it hard to hear her clearly. Her words were fragmented, and from the sound of it, she was drunk.
Just as I was about to respond, a man’s voice came through the phone.
“Hey beautiful, drinking alone?”
“Get lost,” Lin Muyao muttered impatiently.
“Lin Muyao, where are you?” I asked, getting up from my seat, suddenly feeling uneasy.
Seeing my expression change, Gu Nianchu stood up as well and nudged the still-confused Fu Ze.
“Shi Yue, I’m drinking… I miss you so much, I had no choice but to drink…”
I asked her location multiple times, but she was too intoxicated to give a clear answer. Left with no choice, I quickly traced her phone’s location and prepared to go find her.
No matter what had happened between us, she was still alone in Beicheng. I didn’t want anything bad to happen to her. Even if she were just a regular friend, I wouldn’t ignore a situation like this.
Gu Nianchu and Fu Ze, realizing something was wrong, both stood up.
“What’s going on, Shi Yue-ge?” Gu Nianchu asked.
“Lin Muyao got herself drunk somewhere. I need to go check on her.”
Gu Nianchu nodded in understanding and reminded me to hire a driver and be careful.
But Fu Ze grabbed my arm and insisted, “Which bar? I have stakes in half the bars in Beicheng. Let me come with you—I might be able to help.”
Thinking it over, I realized he had a point, so I agreed. Since Gu Nianchu couldn’t stay alone, she decided to come along too.
Luckily, the bar wasn’t far, and we arrived in about ten minutes.
The moment I got out of the car, I headed straight inside, scanning the room for Lin Muyao.
I spotted her in a corner booth, with a man sitting beside her, trying to get handsy. He was holding a glass, attempting to force more alcohol down her throat.
I strode over and grabbed the man’s wrist, snatching the glass from his hand.
“Let go of her,” I said coldly.
“Who the hell are you? Don’t you know the rules? First come, first served. I saw this beauty first.”
The man scowled at me, clearly unwilling to back down. I was debating whether to deal with him physically when Lin Muyao suddenly swayed to her feet.
“Hubby… you came. I knew you’d find me…”
She was too drunk to stand properly and ended up half-collapsing into my arms, repeatedly calling me “husband.”
“Sh*t, what rotten luck. Turns out she’s married,” the man cursed, grabbing his drink and walking away.
“Lin Muyao, how much did you drink?” I shook her slightly, trying to make her stand on her own, but she was completely out of it.
With no other choice, I helped her settle the bill and carried her out.
As we reached the entrance, Gu Nianchu and Fu Ze arrived.
“This is… the ex-sister-in-law?” Fu Ze, though tipsy, was still coherent enough to be surprised.
I nodded as I placed Lin Muyao into the car.
“Yeah, she came to Beicheng looking for me. I don’t know why she got herself this drunk, but I couldn’t just leave her there.”
“Fair enough,” Fu Ze muttered. “But what now? She’s completely out of it. Are you taking her home?”
