After I Let Go, She Regretted It Deeply

Chapter 16:

Chapter 16: Who Drugged Her?:

“Why did you slap me? I was just telling the truth. What, afraid I hit a nerve for Song Shiyue?” Zhang Wangchuan refused to back down even after getting slapped, his face full of mockery as he looked at Gu Nianchu.

“What kind of relationship we have is none of your business. A filthy person like you isn’t even worthy of a glance from me.”

“Well said. Now that I think about it, I feel like I need to wash my eyes after looking at you,” Gu Nianchu said, crossing her arms. “You’re Zhang Wangchuan, right? Here’s a little friendly advice—when we warned you earlier, we weren’t joking. This is Beicheng. If you piss us off, you really won’t end up well.”

Fu Ze, feeling satisfied after seeing Zhang Wangchuan get slapped, immediately backed Gu Nianchu up.

Zhang Wangchuan glanced between the three of us, as if trying to gauge whether Fu Ze’s words were a real threat.

His cowardly demeanor made me smirk. Someone like Zhang Wangchuan, who lived off women, could only act tough with his words. But the moment he met someone more powerful, he turned into a spineless rat.

“What can you people possibly do to me—”

“Patient in bed 25 has woken up. Family members can go in now,” a nurse interrupted.

Hearing that Lin Muyao had woken up, Zhang Wangchuan immediately sprinted toward the hospital room, eager to play the concerned lover.

“Brother Shiyue, are you going to check on her?”

“Lin Muyao was brought here because of you. Don’t let someone else take all the credit,” Gu Nianchu reminded me with a frown, glancing in the direction Zhang Wangchuan had run off to.

I chuckled. Helping her was just a matter of principle—it had nothing to do with emotions. As for taking credit? I couldn’t care less.

Gu Nianchu was probably worried I’d still be hurt over Lin Muyao.

Seeing me hesitate, Fu Ze nudged me and said impatiently, “Bro, you have to go in. If you don’t, that bastard is going to throw all the blame on you.”

“Yeah, who knows what kind of nonsense he’ll come up with.”

“Fine, fine, I’ll take a look, and then we’re leaving.” Seeing how anxious they were, I sighed and relented.

But just as I reached the door, I heard voices from inside.

I stopped in my tracks.

“Yaoyao, you’re finally awake. I was so worried about you. If I hadn’t come to Beicheng in time, who knows what would’ve happened—”

“I’m sorry for worrying you, Wangchuan. Why are you here in Beicheng?”

“I couldn’t let you come here alone, so I dropped everything to be with you.”

Zhang Wangchuan sure knew how to act. An unemployed nobody talking about “dropping everything”—as if he actually had work to do.

“You’re so good to me. By the way… did Shiyue come to see me?”

“I think I remember seeing him earlier… Did he leave already?”

Lin Muyao scanned the room, looking a little disappointed.

“Forget about him, Yaoyao. Can’t you see it now? Song Shiyue resents you. He doesn’t want you to be happy. If it weren’t for him today… you wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital.”

“What do you mean?”

“What did Shiyue do to me?”

Zhang Wangchuan let out a dramatic sigh and said in a grave tone, “I didn’t want to tell you. I didn’t want to hurt you. But I think you deserve to know the truth.”

“I used to think Song Shiyue was a decent guy. But I never thought he’d stoop so low.”

Lin Muyao frowned at Zhang Wangchuan’s cryptic tone and urged him to speak.

Watching from the doorway, I felt numb. They looked like two performing clowns. Did Lin Muyao really not remember calling me after getting drunk? Was she really going to act this out with Zhang Wangchuan?

“He drugged you. He wanted to take advantage of you… but luckily, I arrived just in time at the hotel. I was the one who brought you to the hospital.”

“Shiyue… why would he do that?” Lin Muyao murmured, her cheeks strangely flushed. She didn’t know she had been drugged—she had assumed she had simply gotten too drunk. Hearing Zhang Wangchuan’s words, she actually looked a little flustered instead of alarmed.

She probably thought I still had feelings for her and had drugged her in an attempt to be intimate.

“He must have acted impulsively. It’s okay, I’ll find a chance to talk to him and persuade him.”

Instead of telling Zhang Wangchuan the truth—that she had called me first—she played the role of the kindhearted woman who was willing to forgive.

Fu Ze and Gu Nianchu saw it all clearly.

“They really are two of a kind,” Gu Nianchu scoffed. “Brother Shiyue, you shouldn’t have saved her. Did she lose her memory after drinking? If nothing else, her call log still exists, right? The acting is incredible.”

I wasn’t surprised. I already knew they would say something ridiculous.

“Yaoyao, you’re too kind. Promise me you won’t let yourself get hurt again.”

Zhang Wangchuan held Lin Muyao’s hand and kissed the back of it. He really looked the part of a devoted lover.

“As long as you’re with me, I won’t get hurt.”

“Of course. Didn’t we say? We’ll be together forever.”

“…Ugh, I think I’m gonna puke.”

Fu Ze clutched my shoulder and made a gagging motion.

“They seem so in love. Why did Lin Muyao even come to find you? This is disgusting.”

I turned and walked toward the elevator, smiling faintly. “Yeah, it’s gross. But I’ve already seen through it. Now I’m just watching the show.”

“Brother Shiyue, you’re not mad?” Gu Nianchu hurried to catch up, watching me carefully.

“Why would I be? I’m just waiting for the real drama to unfold. This won’t end until they finish their act.”

“But they were slandering you just now!”

“Let them have their fun for now. They’ll have to pay for it eventually.”

I waved it off and left the hospital.

Gu Nianchu and Fu Ze still seemed puzzled but didn’t press further. They followed me out.

The next day, just as I was about to head to the company, my phone rang.

Lin Muyao.

I glanced at the caller ID and chuckled. Right on cue.

“Hello.”

“Shiyue, I’m in the hospital. Can you come see me?”

She still didn’t know I had been there last night. Zhang Wangchuan clearly hadn’t told her.

“What happened? Why are you in the hospital?” I asked, pretending not to know.

“You’re really asking me that? You know exactly what happened. You did this to me, and you haven’t even come to see me. How mean! I’m all alone here, and I’m scared. Can you come keep me company?”

“Sure.”

Lin Muyao seemed surprised at how quickly I agreed. She didn’t respond for a moment before finally asking in excitement, “Really? I’m in Room 706 at Zhongshan Hospital!”

“Got it.”

After hanging up, I immediately told the driver to take me to the hospital.
