Chapter 18:
Chapter 18: The Stunning Female Secretary:
Lin Muyao earnestly tried to persuade me. “Shiyue, you really don’t have to feel this way. Isn’t it great that we have a friend like Wangchuan to help us? It’s beneficial for you too.”
I scoffed coldly, my tone filled with disdain. “I don’t need his so-called help. I, Song Shiyue, have nothing in common with a man who lives off women.”
I sneered and added, “Lin Muyao, since you enjoy this kind of ‘support’ from a friend so much, then go ahead and make the most of it. Just don’t come crying when you realize you’ve been played.”
“You’re so ungrateful!” Lin Muyao was clearly annoyed.
Now that Zhang Wangchuan had promised her investment in her so-called company, her trust in him had only deepened. She was already losing patience with me.
That worked perfectly—I wouldn’t have to waste any more effort trying to make her give up.
I smirked and countered, “Let’s see if you still think the same way when he’s drained you dry. Right now, you’d better focus on clinging to your future ‘movie star’ tightly.”
“You—!”
“I’m done here.” My voice turned cold. “I came today to make one thing clear—stop imagining things. I have absolutely no interest in you, not now, not ever. If you keep bothering me, I won’t be as polite next time.”
With that, I turned and left without even glancing at them again.
After leaving, I headed straight to the company. Today, Grandpa was going to familiarize me with company affairs.
Upon arriving, a staff member led me to the top floor. This level housed only the offices of the chairman and the general manager, along with two secretarial offices.
When I entered my grandfather’s office, I noticed quite a few people standing inside.
“You’re here.” Grandpa waved at me with a smile.
“Let me introduce you. These are the members of your future secretarial team. I personally selected them, and they will assist you in handling all company affairs. Besides work-related matters, they will also take care of your daily needs. Whatever you need, just instruct them—they’ll fulfill their duties accordingly.”
I was surprised as I looked at the group in front of me. There were at least a dozen of them—all here just to assist me?
“Grandpa, isn’t this too many people?”
“This is just the beginning. You’ll need even more staff in the future. You’re the young master of the Song family in Beicheng—how can a few people be enough to support you? Old Li, introduce them to Ah Yue.”
“Yes, Chairman.” My grandfather’s chief secretary, Li Ze, responded respectfully.
“General Manager, this is Shen Mengbai. She will be your Chief Secretary, responsible for both your work and personal affairs. She graduated from a prestigious university, studied abroad for three years, and underwent our company’s specialized training. She will be a great asset to you.”
I looked at Shen Mengbai.
She was dressed in a sharp, professional suit, her hair neatly tied in a bun. Her almond-shaped eyes were bright and lively, and she greeted me with a polite smile. Her fair complexion, long legs, and stunning beauty far outshone Lin Muyao’s—she looked like a celebrity.
For a secretary, she was undeniably exceptional in appearance.
I nodded, internally satisfied.
“These are Xu Yanyan, Du Lin…” Li Ze continued introducing them one by one. “Some are fluent in multiple languages, some specialize in gathering information quickly, and others focus on managing your public image.”
By the time the introductions were done, I had officially gained another team within the company. This would make my work much more efficient.
“So, what do you think? Are you satisfied?” Grandpa asked with a grin.
“I’m very satisfied. With such a strong team supporting me, I will make sure the company thrives.”
“That’s the spirit. Spend the next few days getting to know your team and adjusting to the workflow. Soon, I’ll be meeting up with my old friends, and at that point, I’ll fully hand over the company to you.”
“Don’t worry, Grandpa. I won’t let you down.”
Grandpa nodded in satisfaction and left.
I led my team back to my office.
The office had clearly been newly renovated. Unlike my grandfather’s traditional style, mine had a more modern and youthful design, yet it still exuded an air of grandeur.
Seated comfortably in my executive chair, I looked at the neatly lined-up employees and smiled.
“Relax, no need to be so formal. We’ll be working together every day from now on. I’m an easy-going person, but I have one rule—loyalty is non-negotiable. Betray me once, and you’re out for good.”
“Additionally, I expect all tasks, big or small, to be executed with precision. Whatever I assign, I want it done properly.”
“As long as you perform well, I will make sure you are rewarded generously at the end of the year.”
“Understood, General Manager!” The team responded in unison.
“Chief Secretary Shen, stay behind. The rest of you may go.”
Shen Mengbai remained unfazed, keeping her composed smile as she asked, “General Manager, do you have any instructions for me?”
“Yes. First, give me a detailed report on the company’s major projects over the past year. I need a clear understanding of the situation.”
This was a test. Although I trusted my grandfather’s judgment in selecting her, I needed to evaluate her capabilities myself.
For the next few days, I was busy taking over the company’s affairs. I even had to turn down invitations from Fu Ze and the others for drinks—I simply had no time.
As for Lin Muyao’s calls, I didn’t answer a single one.
From what I knew, she and Zhang Wangchuan were still in Beicheng. Zhang Wangchuan was preoccupied with his so-called movie deal.
Thinking about it made me chuckle.
I had investigated the matter—his so-called “famous director” was nothing more than a figurehead, and the actual project had neither the budget nor the resources to start filming. They hadn’t even secured a full cast because they couldn’t afford to pay actors.
Zhang Wangchuan was undoubtedly being taken advantage of.
“General Manager, you have a business dinner tonight with President Sun from Guangsheng Group at Jingxiang Pavilion.”
“Got it.”
I had to admit, Shen Mengbai was exceptionally capable.
With her leading the secretarial team, everything was handled smoothly. My only job was to make key decisions.
This would be my first official business dinner since taking over the company.
Everything went well, and halfway through, I stepped out to use the restroom.
That’s when I heard Zhang Wangchuan’s bootlicking voice.
“Director Feng, when will filming begin? I’ve been waiting in Beicheng for days now.”
I slowed my handwashing, listening to their conversation.
“What’s the rush? Can’t you see I’m already negotiating with investors? As soon as the funding is in place, we’ll start filming. I’m telling you, this movie has a lot of industry buzz—many investors are eager to get involved.”
“Of course, of course. I completely trust you. I’m so grateful that you gave me a chance to audition for such a great role.”
“You’re still young. You don’t realize that in the film industry, investing is actually more profitable than acting. It’s a low-risk, high-reward business. If you have the means, you should invest yourself. That way, you’ll have influence over the production. Look at our lead actor—he’s a major investor in the film.”
The director spoke persuasively.
There was a moment of silence.
I knew immediately—Zhang Wangchuan had taken the bait.
