Chapter 85: Eric, the 2-meter-tall little fan girl
After parting ways with Olivia, Rain went to the planned venue for the semi-finals of the tournament. Even though he still had time before the semi-finals, he decided to head straight there.
Exiting the academy building, he walked in the direction he needed to go.
Gradually the silence was replaced by the distant voices of people actively discussing something. The voices grew stronger with each step, until he came to one of the academy's large outdoor areas.
'Not bad at all.'
He had a view of the arena in front of him, which looked grand compared to the places of his past fights. It was surrounded by a large number of comfortable seats for spectators, which were already partially filled.
As soon as he appeared on the horizon, everyone was silent for a second, turning their attention to him. Some began to whisper quietly among themselves, which Rain could hear perfectly well with his keen senses.
Compared to past matches, there were also as many as three instructors here to monitor and evaluate the semi-finals, and there was a lot more room to move around.
One of the instructors approached Rain and said.
"Student Rain, you're here earlier than expected, so your opponent hasn't arrived yet."
After announcing this, she quickly gave him some basic instructions about the upcoming semi-final and added.
"Just remember, this is a semi-final, not a sparring match. We expect to see your best."
Having said that, she turned back to the other two instructors.
To his surprise, Rain spotted Eric Brake, the stern-looking instructor who was in charge of his last fight with Lamel.
The problem was that he wasn't standing with the other instructors, but with the audience...
Not to mention that now he could no longer be called that strict instructor.
There was no longer that strict military aura around him that was present when he met him for the first time. Now his aura was like that of a little fan girl waiting for her idol...
Perhaps, if it weren't for his height of two meters and the frightening scars on his face and hands, he really could be mistaken for one of them.
While waiting for the fight to begin, Instructor Eric walked from place to place with obvious excitement and muttered to himself, oblivious to his surroundings.
"I'm sure I wasn't mistaken... it was 'that' sword style..."
Not knowing what the former strict instructor meant, Rain opened his ring communicator and, finding the ranking list and the tournament grid there, saw his opponent's name.
Donat Edodes.
The name didn't tell him much, but he wondered who the person Olivia had told him about was.
Since his opponent, Donat, hadn't shown up yet, Rain took his time and looked around his surroundings, where new spectators were gradually arriving.
His attention was immediately drawn to a group of pretty elven girls chatting happily amongst themselves.
"That's pretty fascinating."
In Rain's past world, besides humans, there was only the Demon race that hated humans with its entire existence, so seeing the elven women was a completely new experience for him.
And although his first encounter with this race turned into one big misunderstanding, his desire to explore this race did not go away, but instead became even stronger.
He was very interested in elven women, wanting to learn more about them, to experience their culture and even something more...
To him, it was like an outlandish dish he had never tasted before. And as a seasoned gourmet, he would never turn down the opportunity to try it.
Remembering that it had been a while since he had seen his beautiful Aelorian, he headed towards a group of sweetly chatting elven women.
Their distinguished appearance along with their long pointed ears made them stand out from the rest. Their white light dresses, revealing ample bare skin and emphasizing all their natural virtues, made them stand out even more.
Needless to mention, they were attracting a great many stares, most of which were now centered on him, who didn't hesitate to approach them.
When he approached them, they stopped chatting and silently looked at him with a noticeable coldness on their faces, hesitant to say anything.
This attitude was normal. The elves as a race were allies of the humans, but they still didn't trust them completely, mostly preferring to group together and communicate only among themselves.
Rain himself had seen a couple of guys before this, tempted by their cute looks, approach them but were brutally rebuffed by their complete disregard for their existence and facial expressions as if they were more interested in a bug crawling by than in talking to them.
In the end all they had to do was walk away with broken hearts and mangled souls, hoping to someday heal their shattered egos.
It was like a sweet honey trap, attracting only to wound cruelly.
And Rain was glad to get caught up in it.
The faces of the elven women still exuded cold indifference, and the temperature around them hadn't risen a degree.
Suddenly one of them looked at him and remembered something, whispered in the ear of the other and they began to discuss something among themselves.
The boldest of them stepped forward, asking.
"Perhaps you are Rain? A friend of Our Highness?"
'Our Highness? Are they about Ael?'
Because of Aelorian's behavior, he himself sometimes forgot how high her status in the Elven Kingdom was.
"Friend? I guess you could say that."
Pronounced Rain with a smirk.
As soon as they heard his confirmation, most of their wariness, like a melted glacier, magically vanished, and it wasn't a couple moments before they were surrounding him.
"Are you really that Rain?"
"Is it true you can chop up three ogres with one blow?"
"Is it true that humans eat an orc's heart for breakfast, washing it down with troll blood?"
"Is it true that humans choose their partner by the size of their ass?"
"My father used to say that humans don't wash themselves to scare away monsters with their odor. But you smell pretty good..."
"My brother tells me that human men are just lustful animals. Is that really true?"
A deluge of questions poured down on him, ranging from personal questions to questions about humans in general. It was as if he was the first human they had ever spoken to, and they had decided to ask him every question they had ever had about the human world.
'Hasn't the atmosphere changed too much?'
Rain couldn't help but wonder.
They went from cold indifference with a hint of hostility to warm friendly curiosity in a matter of seconds.
"Her Highness has told us a lot about you."

One of the elven women looked back at him as if she'd met a character from a book she'd read so much about.
Rain raised his eyebrows.
"And what was she saying?"
Her smile froze and her face gradually reddened. Her eyes darted around.
"Ummm… ahem...ahem.... I don't think I can tell you..."
After giving her a curious look, Rain decided not to press and simply changed the subject.
"By the way, where is she now? Doesn't she usually spend all her time with you?"
"Me! I'll answer it!"
The silver-haired elfess, the youngest of them all, nimbly sprang forward, ahead of the others.
"My name is Lapielle! The princess isn't here right now, as she's also in the semi-finals!"
"Lapielle, how many times have I told you not to call her Princess? To you, she's Your Highness."
The older elfess of their group intervened, reprimanding her in a stern tone.
"Boohoo..."
Ignoring the upset look on Lapielle's face at having her moment of glory taken away, she turned politely to Rain. It was the brave elfess who had spoken to him first.
"Sorry for the late introduction, I'm Mythralin."
She introduced herself and explained in a slightly sad tone.
"We wanted to go see Her Highness fight too, but she said she didn't need to and sent us away."
"We should have just stayed there! The Princess wouldn't have kicked us out if we'd been more persistent!"
Lapielle intervened again.
Mythralin sighed heavily, not knowing how to tame this unruly girl.
"But if we were with Her Highness now, we wouldn't have met Rain here, would we?"
"Ummm... that makes sense..."
Lapiellele said confusedly, not knowing how to react to this logic. But soon she stopped thinking about such complicated things and returned to her past mood.
"Anyway, the Princess will definitely win! She can't lose!"
"So don't lose either, Rain!"
"Think how amazing it would be if you met in the finals!"
"Ah, what a romantic scene..."
The pair of elven women whispered, their ears twitching and they began whispering to each other again and blushing.
"That's why you have to win no matter what, Rain!!!"
Lapielle stated again. This time her words were echoed by the others.
"Yes! As a friend of Her Highness, you simply can't lose!"
"Crush your enemy and make it to the finals."
"Show these mere humans... oh yeah, you're human too."
Each elven woman was genuinely encouraging him to the best of her ability.
The youngest of them, Lapielle, looked over his body a couple times and asked him with eyes full of curiosity.
"Rain, show us your arm!"
As soon as she said that, looks of curiosity, interest... and hunger from the other elven women focused on his arm, which even through the fabric of his suit looked very strong.
Casting his gaze around the crowd of beautiful elven women, Rain sighed to himself.
'So many women crave my body. I guess I have no choice.'
