“Don’t worry, Elder Brother will handle things well,” Qiao Mei said with a smile.

“So I have crossed your mind again. Why didn’t you say that Elder Brother could handle it just now?” Xia Wen’s voice could be heard coming faintly from outside the door.

Qiao Mei shouted towards the door, “I’m just worried about you!”

“You’re just worried about missing out on the action!” Xia Wen said with a laugh.

The Huang family could no longer cause any trouble. Xia Wen had quietly ensured that all the relatives of the Huang family would lose their jobs and be asked to leave the capital. Huang Mian and Huang Zhong, the main perpetrators of this incident, were sent to prison. It was said that Huang Zhong had fallen ill from all the anxiety and stress and that he did not have much time left.

Just as everyone was caught up in the discussion, Shao Yin slowly regained consciousness. She looked at the tattered clothes on her body and turned pale with fright. She hurriedly checked herself for any wounds and was surprised to find that not only were her limbs good and well, her skin even looked fairer than usual!

It looked like Qiao Mei had saved her again!

“My child! Where’s my child!” Shao Yin said agitatedly.

Not bad. At least the first thing Shao Yin did when she regained consciousness was to look for her child. It seemed that she was still not incorrigible.

“He’s upstairs. Aunt is doing a quick checkup for him,” Xia He said.

Shao Yin heaved a sigh of relief. Qiao Mei could not stand to see Shao Yin sitting in her living room in such a dirty and disheveled state, so she asked Feng Hua to bring Shao Yin to take a shower in the helper room downstairs. She did not want Shao Yin to use any of the bedrooms in the manor.

Both Feng Hua and Xu Kang had their own bedrooms when they stayed in this manor. The so-called helper room was actually a storeroom, but Shao Yin did not know any of this. She did not even have any idea what a helper room was supposed to be.

Feng Hua retrieved her old clothes for Shao Yin to change into. Although the clothes were a little loose, they were still much better than the tattered clothes she was wearing. There were men inside the house after all.

“Alright, you can leave with the child in a while,” Qiao Mei said.

“But… but our house has already been burned down. I don’t have anywhere else to go…” Shao Yin said softly as she fiddled with the corner of her shirt.

“My third uncle is the one who paid for Xia Xing’s house. You can try your luck at Tang Hui’s place and see if she will take you in. After all, she’s your mother in name,” Qiao Mei said.

Shao Yin did not say anything. After how she treated Tang Hui at Xia Hai’s one-month-old celebration banquet, Tang Hui definitely would not give them the time of day.

The Xia family still cared about them because she was Xia Hai’s mother and Xia Hai was of the Xia family bloodline, but Tang Hui? They had nothing to do with Tang Hui and she also seemed like the kind of person who did not like to get involved in other people’s affairs.

“Can… can I use your phone? I want to call Xia Xing…” Shao Yin said.

“Go ahead,” Qiao Mei said as she pointed to the phone at the end of the corridor.

When Xia Guang and Xia Xing heard about what happened, they were very shocked. Both of them wanted to come back to take a look, but Shao Yin told them not to. In the end, after some discussion, they told Shao Yin to bring Xia Hai and head over to their location. They could live with Xia Xing there.

There was no need for her to pack anything. The fire had destroyed everything in the house. Fortunately, Shao Yin was still smart enough not to leave all the money at home. The money she had kept in the bank was enough for them to buy everything they needed to start over again.

Xia Wan and the rest felt a little sorry for them. Before Shao Yin left, they bought a lot of clothes and toys for the child. She was headed to a place where the weather was bitterly cold. An adult could still tolerate it, but a child could not!

After sending Shao Yin off, the rest of the family were told that they could continue to stay in the manor if they wished and Xu Kang would stay behind to prepare the daily meals for them. Qiao Mei was not used to staying at this place. She wanted to go home and spend more time with Qiao Qiang. Even if the two of them did not spend a lot of time together and only met during mealtimes, she felt more at ease knowing that they were living in the same courtyard.

She certainly did not expect to run into two odd guests at her house, Wang Kun and Wang Tian.

Qiao Mei remained seated inside the car and did not make any move. Xia He also saw the two people and asked curiously, “What are the two of them doing at your house?”

“Who knows? I don’t know them and I’m not familiar with them,” Qiao Mei said disdainfully.

“Then should I go down and ask them to leave?” Xia He asked.

Before Qiao Mei could react, Wang Tian rushed to the side of the car. She smacked the car window with her palm and shouted, “Sister Qiao Mei! You’re back! We’ve been waiting for you for a long time!”

Qiao Mei rolled down the car window resignedly and said, “Just knock on the car door next time. You’ve left your handprint on the glass pane.”

“You have drivers at home! Just ask them to wipe it off!” Wang Tian said nonchalantly, as if she was their employer. This made the driver sitting in front feel very unhappy.
