Chapter 13: chapter 13
That was the moment that prompted him to sprint, attacking the man holding the girl and knocking him unconscious in the blink of an eye. The girl looked at him in shock, and then her tears fell when she realized he was her companion. She had hoped someone would find her, but she hadn't expected to be in such a humiliating situation. Ashamed, she looked at the ground, and Arkon took out clothes from his bag and handed them to her.
A deep pain swept through Arkon's heart as he saw her in this state. As the men began to approach them, staggering, the women ran toward their homes. Suddenly, Adrian transformed into his wolf form, falling onto all fours and attacking the men before they could reach Arkon, who was also enraged. He unleashed his wolf, Lux, who began to lose control of himself due to his anger.
They continued fighting until they took down the men, who were very drunk. Then, as Adrian was catching his breath, he caught sight of part of a tattoo appearing on one of the men's arms. He approached it carefully and took a closer look. It was the same symbols he had seen before, and a fire of rage ignited within him.
He looked around and realized that Arkon had returned to the girl, who was crouched by a tree, crying, her eyes avoiding his.
Adrian walked over to the other men and examined them, only to discover that they all had the same tattoo. He closed his eyes tightly, trying to restrain the Sivak that was in tune with his anger, saying to himself, "This man, I must find him and stop him."
Meanwhile, Arkon stood next to the girl, lifting her face to see her small, childlike features. Her eyes were closed as if she didn't want to face what had happened. Then, Arkon hugged her tenderly, patting her head to reassure her. Her sobs gradually grew louder, as if she had found refuge. She tried to push him away, but she fell unconscious in his arms, so he gently picked her up and ran to Adrian.
Adrian said, "It's the Rogues. They must have destroyed everyone and left these women here to humiliate them and violate their instincts, treating them as nothing more than objects of entertainment. Look here..." He showed Arkon the tattoo and said, "They all have the same mark. This person is trying to control all the herds."
Arkon looked at his companion sadly, then remembered his own painful past and said, "We must help them now. Let's get out of here before one of the Rogues returns."
They set off toward the nearby houses, knocking on doors, but no one answered. After a while, a little boy emerged from one of the doors, looking at them innocently. Adrian approached him, ran a hand tenderly over his head, and asked, "Where is your family?"
The child cried as he remembered his mother being killed in front of him while he hid under the house, as well as his father being killed while defending her. Adrian gently soothed him until he was able to tell them what had happened to his family.
Arkon's body trembled as he listened to the child's words, remembering how the Rogues had killed his own family when he was young. That moment was a painful reminder of his own loss.
Adrian continued knocking on doors until one finally opened. A woman in her fifties stepped out, rushed toward Adrian, and took the child from him forcefully, crying bitterly. Adrian gave them some space to calm down.
After a while, the woman composed herself, and the boy fell asleep from exhaustion and crying. Adrian approached her and said, "We need your help. Someone has to tell us what happened here and where everyone went."
The woman wiped her tears and said, "This is my grandson. His mother was my sister's daughter. I thought he had been killed with his parents or taken away with those captured from the herd." She turned away and let out a deep, pained sigh, her eyes filled with tears and sorrow. "Our life here was peaceful, far from the other herds. But some time ago, the Rogues began attacking us sporadically. Then came the fateful day when they attacked in large numbers. We couldn't defend ourselves. They captured the men, killed the Alphas, and took some of the healthy children. They slaughtered everyone in cold blood, as if our lives were worthless. We tried to escape, but they caught us. They killed those who hid in their homes and left the women here, treating us as slaves."
Arkon and Adrian exchanged glances, both thinking the same thing—they needed to leave before morning. They had to move before the Rogues returned.
Arkon asked, "Do we take them back to our herd, or should we bring them to a nearby one?"
Adrian, still deep in thought, replied, "I can't decide right now." He then looked at the girl in Arkon's arms and asked, "How is she doing? It must have been hard for her."
Arkon sighed. "I don't know how she will react to me when she wakes up."
Adrian said, "Give her time to adjust. What happened to her is not easy."
The woman looked at Arkon, who was still holding the girl. She approached quickly and called out, "Lucy, my little girl, are you okay?"
Arkon's heart raced at her name. He looked at her, then asked, "Do you know what happened to her?"
The woman shook her head, crying. "I know her. She's the Alpha's daughter. I thought she was dead or taken away with the other females. Where did you find her?"
Arkon replied, "It doesn't matter now. The important thing is that she rests."
The woman nodded and said, "Take her into that room to rest."
Arkon carried the girl inside, placed her on the bed, and sat beside her for a moment before stepping out to talk to Adrian.
