Chapter 86: V2 Chapter 33 Wrangling A Crock

The pain...the pain had stopped, the call had stopped, and yet for some of them the rage still remained. Connor had just turned off the signal, a fact that caused a momentary pause to ripple out through the horde of rampaging creatures, a pause that would most definitely not last for long.
Atop a crumbling tower of concrete, steel and glass something could be seen, a massive entity surrounded by thousands of its buzzing offspring. Its transparent wings shimmered in the sunlight as it rested, observing the mayhem below with surprising intelligence.
It looked like a wasp, however it's body was more...angular, sharper in a way, simply put it's exoskeleton was smooth and narrow yet also jagged and pointed in several places. Each of its insectoid legs was covered in sharp spines that had serrated surfaces, additionally each of said legs ended in two grim looking hooks used primarily for grappling as well as digging into flesh and muscle. And finally, its abdomen was longer, more pronounced, ending in a much more brutal looking stinger that was seemingly sharp enough to pierce through metal. Overall the creature appeared to be a hybrid between a wasp and a dragonfly, a massive entity with wings around sixty feet in length that was made even more imposing by the swarm that spiraled around it like a howling storm.
Most stayed away from the titan of an insect and her spiraling brood, however there was one in particular who was not so content. The mutant parrot who had been momentarily confused by the signal's sudden disappearance now turned its attention towards the only creature that could possibly challenge its current supremacy over the surrounding skies. The great wasp queen immediately saw the creature approach of course, her wings spreading wide as she prepared to take flight once more.
Somewhere below, a large canine suddenly froze, its ears flicking up in confusion as it glanced around with a rather puzzled expression, well, as puzzled of an expression that could be made by a giant mutant wolf anyway. Ralph was surrounded by strange creatures, beings that he didn't really recognise, and yet he felt no hostility towards most of them despite their intimidating appearances. In fact Ralph felt a bond with most of them, a bond that he didn't quite understand but one that felt familiar to the connection he shared with his master, just far weaker and less noticeable.
Of course he didn't feel this bond with all of them, two stood out in particular, the giant colorful bird in the sky above as well as the massive reptile that stood some distance from it. The latter was the most alarming to Ralph, not only because it was the closest to himself but also because of the strange voice in the back of his head telling him to avoid the entity in question.
Still, despite the sudden shift in the chaos things were bound to flare up once more, after all those who had survived up until this point defending the city weren't just going to sit around and do nothing. Those with any sense of self preservation made a run for it while they had the chance, fleeing while the creatures were still in a daze. As for those who were too patriotic or blinded by fear on the other hand, well, they immediately opened fire with everything they had left, a fact that only caused the creatures to lash out all over again.
Not far away things were progressing well for a certain duo however, the two had managed to intercept their rather large target. It took a minute or two for Davis to calm George down enough to get him to consume the antidote, thankfully now that the signal had been turned off this was made far easier to pull off, even if it was still a little nerve wracking to say the least.
Soon enough though the big guy did indeed regain his full faculties, the artificial rage that clouded his thoughts vanished faster than expected. Unable to do much at all to help the now doomed city the group of three quickly began fighting their way out to freedom, thankfully most of the creatures weren't all that interested in them.
While they began their retreat however, someone else was walking towards the chaos, particularly towards the behemoth of a crocodile. The reptile was currently attacking the closest thing to it, said "thing" just so happened to be none other than the gigantic lobster that had arrived with the horde of mutant horrors.

(Okay...how the hell am I gonna pull this off.) I muttered as I looked at the sight in front of me.
Currently Lizzy had the giant mutant lobster in quite the predicament, she had clamped her jaws around one of its claws and was currently trying to rip it off. The sheer bite focus behind that bite was enough to easily shatter through the reddish brown exoskeleton that was lining the lobster's whole body, and that was before Lizzy went into a death roll.
The sight of splintering chitin and the ripping of flesh mixed with the buzz like screeching sound emitted by the lobster as its claw was violently twisted and torn off was both fascinating and horrifying to witness. The gargantuan crustation was, well, mildly pissed off to say the very least, its pain only seemed to fuel its anger as it slammed its body into the overly aggressive crocodile, sending her skidding several meters away from it. The lobster's rage only grew however, especially when it noticed that Lizzy was now eating its claw with what I could have sworn was a slight mocking glint in her reptilian eyes.
"I mean seriously, I don't have to mind controlling the nearly eighteen meter tall crocodile, it's not like I'll lose anything of real consequence or value if I choose not to..." I hummed before chuckling to myself. "Who am I kidding, I've come this far, no point in pussying out now."
(At least the parrot is preoccupied.) I muttered as I glanced up at the carnage going on above.
In the skies overhead a battle was raging, the mutant wasp queen was entangled with the mutant parrot I had heard so much about. They thrashed in the air, the parrot's razor sharp beak and serrated pangolin like scale scraped against hardened chitin as it did its very best to avoid the deadly stinger of its opponent. The two fought like that for several long moments, smashing and biting at each other before the parrot flapped its wings and used its talons to push the massive insect away as it made some distance.
With some space now between the two of them the parrot took a second to just glare at the one before it, the one challenging its rule over the skies simply by existing, before then flapping its wings once more. The large territorial avian propelled itself forward like a bloody missile, fully intending to slam into its opponent with all the force it could muster. The parrot was clearly bigger, heavier, more armoured and far more aggressive, if it actually hit the wasp queen head on at that speed there was little doubt she would break under the impact.
Thankfully, the wasp queen wasn't defenseless, yes, she was smaller than the parrot but she was far more maneuverable, had deadlier weaponry and was smarter thanks to her connection to the hive mind. To put it simply, she wasn't just going to hover there and wait for the parrot to come, oh no, in fact she was rather quick to get a move on. Her children even came to her aid in large numbers, their smaller stingers couldn't penetrate the armour covering the parrots body but the much smaller wasps definitely made for a good distraction if nothing else.
(I should give her a name, I mean I did practically raise her after all.) I thought as the two creatures flew out of view.
(And George is also gone so that's good, I'm glad Kate and Davis decided to make a run for it after giving the big guy the antidote, they would have just been in the way if they had stuck around otherwise.) I thought before shaking my head.
Turning my attention back to reality I began to walk forward while still keeping my distance for now. "Anyway, let's focus on the task at hand."
"Thankfully however, unlike when I tried to indoctrinate Ralph this time I have some friends to back me up." I hummed to myself.
Lizzy was currently still fighting the lobster, although it was more like a one sided beatdown to be honest, mostly because the behemoth of a crustacean was currently getting completely overpowered, not that it wasn't fighting back but still. Anyway, while the rather cranky reptile had its full focus on the still very pissed off lobster I quickly connected my mind with her own via my mental strings.
The moment I was connected I got to work, I thought that since she was currently preoccupied she wouldn't notice my attack on her mind...ah...what an idiot I was to get my hopes up, truly I am a fool. In fact the moment I began drilling my way through her mental barrier she immediately let out a roar that was a mixture of pain, anger and confusion. For a moment she just shook her head, seemingly not able to comprehend the strange sensation currently afflicting her mind. Unfortunately her lack of understanding didn't stop her from immediately going berserk and destroying everything around her.
In fact she was heading directly towards me, not because she knew or comprehended that I was the one attacking her mind, she hadn't even noticed my existence as of yet from what I could tell. The actual target of her sudden wrathful frenzy was none other than the lobster, who was currently laying somewhere behind me under a pile of rubble. How exactly did the giant lobster she was fighting suddenly get behind me? Well, she had just gramped it by the head with her jaws before she then tossed it into the air with a surprising amount of strength, and like a rag doll it flew over me before crashing into a nearby building bringing the whole thing down on top of it.
For a moment I glanced between the collapsed building and the raging crocodile stampeding right towards me with what could only be described as a rather baffled expression, as baffled as a xenomorph could look anyway. It took a second for me to come back to my senses as I processed what the hell had just happened. Thankfully however, my mind snapped back to reality just in time as well, I was able to quickly scramble out of the way before I was squashed under foot by an overgrown mutant reptile.
(That...that was way to fucking close.) I thought to myself. (Also how the hell did she throw that thing so far, it must be at least a hundred tons at the very least.) I thought as Lizzy thrashed around violently, probably realizing that she couldn't reach the lobster now that it was buried underneath a skyscraper's worth of rubble.
"Not feeling very friendly today huh?" I muttered only to gulp a moment later when Lizzy's massive head snapped in my direction. "P-probably should have just kept my mouth shut..."
(Yep, she definitely chose violence when she woke up this morning.) I muttered internally as she turned around and roared at me
"Well, let's get this over with shall we..."
(A/N. Feel free to give name suggestions for the wasp queen in the comments if you want, if I see one that I like I'll probably end up using it. Additionally, reviews would be greatly appreciated if you can be bothered to write one out.)
