America 1919

Chapter 480: 183. The internal power struggle at Surf Hotel has already begun.

Now, to quote a certain Miss Baiyun, Atlantic City is: "A cacophony of gongs and drums, a symphony of firecrackers, a sea of waving red flags, and an ocean of people!"

Everyone knows that Atlantic City will enter a new phase in three days.

In three days, Atlantic City will enter a new phase, and the roadside gambling dens will be no more. If you want to gamble here, there'll be only one place.

The Surf Hotel!

Such a change, of course, is a matter of great joy for Donnie.

But one man's joy does not make everyone happy!

Some tourists like the small setups with just one or two tables, a handful of people; they can't say why, but they just do!

Others worry that with the opening of the Surf Hotel, those who've only brought a hundred or so US dollars, even tens of dollars, to enjoy a day in Atlantic City will no longer find a gambling venue to suit their budget!

"You can't please everyone; we just need to take care of our own interests!"

After listening to Nucky describe some of the recent changes in Atlantic City, Donnie gave his response.

"I remember last year, there was this small restaurant in the West District of Atlantic City. Their chef's other dishes were truly awful, but the pasta was really delicious. That's why I used to go there often to dine, and most other customers went there for the pasta too.

Sometimes you even had to call ahead to reserve a serving of pasta, and yet the clientele never reduced."

Then one day I found that the restaurant was being renovated. The owner had rented out the properties on either side, the decor had turned upscale, and naturally, the prices had gone up."

When I went there again, I made a point of chatting with the owner, asking him if he wasn't worried about losing his previous customers?"

At this point, Donnie looked at Nucky and asked, "Do you know what he said to me?"

Nucky inquired, "What did Eiken say to you?"

It was obvious Nucky knew of this establishment as well.

Donnie replied, "Eiken told me that he now makes at least 40 US dollars a day, whereas, in the old small space, even on a full house, his profits were no more than 10 dollars a day. Then he asked me, what would I do if I were him?"

Nucky laughed heartily and said, "I understand!"

Donnie said, "Nucky, don't worry about what people say, gamblers have no bottom line. What they care about is the thrill between winning and losing, not the supposed venue for their wins and losses. Besides, our Surf Hotel, whether in decor, environment, or the sense of luxury it provides, is incomparable to those small shops.

Once these people have visited once, they'll never forget the Surf Hotel, and they're bound to leave all the money in their wallets with us!"

Nucky said with a big laugh, "I like that statement!"

The two drove to the Surf Hotel, and although the opening ceremony had not yet been held, they had already begun to welcome guests.

There was no helping it; so many guests had come to Atlantic City in the last few days, especially some big shots, that the Ritz Hotel could no longer accommodate so many of them.

Therefore, even before the casino opened, the hotel operation had already started to profit for the Surf Hotel!

Donnie and Nucky arrived at the top floor of the Surf Hotel, where there was a huge reception room, a lavishly decorated study, and an even more opulent bedroom.

In addition to these, there was also an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a massage room, an indoor golf course...

And this place would become Donnie's headquarters in Atlantic City!

"Honestly, I'm a bit envious of your setup here; my floor should have been done like this one too!" Nucky said, sitting on the sofa in Donnie's office, a touch of envy in his voice. Find your next read at My Virtual Library Empire

Since Donnie held the management rights to the Surf Hotel, naturally, the top floor belonged to him as well.

Nucky had moved out of the Ritz Hotel and was living on the 40th floor of the Surf Hotel. However, this time Nucky didn't take up the entire floor like he had at the Ritz; he only had half a floor, but even so, this still meant Nucky's living arrangements were more luxurious than before!

"If you like it here, I can work from the 40th floor!"

Donnie said with a smile.

Nucky waved his hand, seemingly not very concerned, "Nah, if I were managing the Surf Hotel, I would certainly want this space, but the Surf Hotel isn't under my management, and I don't have experience managing this kind of hotel, so I'd rather just enjoy it peacefully!"

Donnie gave Nucky a serious look but saw no other emotions in his eyes; whether that meant Nucky truly had no other thoughts or was just good at hiding them, Donnie couldn't determine at that moment.

"Alright, let's move on to the next topic!"

Nucky was the first to steer the conversation toward the Surf Hotel's opening event.

"Actually, the Surf Hotel's opening is already free of any issues; the main concern now is how to accommodate, during this period, those coming to Atlantic City for the Surf Hotel's opening. These individuals are very important, including political figures, business leaders, Hollywood personalities, and even gang members. Given the complex nature of their identities, it's best not to bring them all together, isn't it? To avoid any trouble?"
