Chapter 555: 555. Hunting Unknown Entities Across Dimensions!
"What's going on?"
Alex rubbed his temples and quickly walked over to Brainstorm's side, focusing his attention on the control panel screen of the GodWorld ship.
On the golden platform, several transparent light spots were flashing continuously, looking like stars connected together, creating a stunning spectacle.
"What is this, a star map?" Alex initially thought it was some kind of satellite radar device. He wasn't very familiar with this technology, or rather, his understanding of alien technology was limited to casual conversations.
If Alex and Brainstorm were to discuss this advanced technology, it would certainly be a challenge for Alex, as a traveler from another world.
"It's not a star map, it's a stasis pod," Brainstorm explained. "This escape ship is filled with Asgardian citizens and guards. They must have encountered some danger, which is why they entered the stasis pods voluntarily."
"Stasis pods? You mean, there are still living Asgardians on this ship?" Alex frowned. He instinctively wanted to deny this, since his wizard's sight told him that there was no life energy aboard this ship, meaning there should be no living beings here.
Even those in a dormant state, frozen in stasis, wouldn't be able to evade Alex's perception.
"It was like that at first, but whether they're still alive is uncertain now. The blinking light spots you see are signals from malfunctioning stasis pods."
Brainstorm frowned as she spoke. "Logically, if the crisis forced most people into stasis, they would have at least left some guards outside. Normally, if the majority are in stasis to avoid danger, there would be a few left outside to watch over the situation."
In normal human understanding, the reason for most people entering stasis pods could likely be a shortage of food resources or damage to the propulsion system.
To avoid everyone's death, the captain would have everyone enter stasis while they stayed outside to monitor the surroundings.
Once the captain could no longer hold on, they would awaken another guard in hopes of finding a way to ensure everyone's survival.
This scenario was similar to what Alex had seen in many movies from his previous life, where similar situations occurred during space travel.
However, what puzzled everyone was that the entire GodWorld ship had no signs of life. There were no guards outside, and not even a hint of life in the stasis pods.
"Something must have happened to these people. Brainstorm, do you know the exact location of the stasis pods?" Alex blinked and asked.
"They should be in the stasis hall opposite the control room. After all, it's an escape ship, so the facilities aren't particularly comprehensive," Brainstorm pointed toward the large door.
Nodding, Alex waved his hand, releasing tiny glowing orbs from his palm. These small glowing spheres emitted a soft, non-blinding light, illuminating the dim interior of the ship.
At the same time, the light orbs floated out from the half-open cockpit door, dispelling the eerie darkness outside.
Without seeing Alex make a move, the door was pulled open by an invisible force. Alex cautiously stepped forward and slowly walked toward the hall outside.
Brainstorm was right. As soon as Alex stepped out of the cockpit, he saw rows of stasis pods in the distance, resembling coffins. Thanks to the soft light, he could see the figures of people inside.
"Billy, protect Brainstorm."
He held back the two behind him with a gesture and slowly approached the stasis pods alone.
Not knowing whether it was safe here, Alex didn't want them to get too close. Although these Asgardians appeared to be dead, no one could be sure they wouldn't suddenly spring back to life.
"Be careful," Billy said and stood next to Brainstorm, scanning the surroundings.
Alex didn't answer, walking straight up to the stasis pod in front of him.
What caught his eye was a woman with stunning beauty. She was wearing a pure white wool coat, not from Earth's sheep, but from Asgard's divine sheep. The wool was incredibly soft and comfortable, with some defensive properties.
The woman's face was fair, her hair naturally curled, with golden and brown hues. Her eyes were gently closed, and there was a faint smile on her lips, making her look as though she was peacefully dreaming.
Once Alex confirmed that she was indeed dead, he turned his attention to the stasis pod.
It was a golden elliptical device, covered by a thin transparent barrier. However, due to the malfunction, the barrier had long been shattered.
Frowning, Alex thought that logically, once the stasis pod malfunctioned and the barrier disappeared, the woman should have woken up. But strangely, she was still dead.
It was as though she died in her sleep, with no signs or reactions.
Slowly, Alex extended his hand, lowered his head in respect, and placed his finger on the woman's forehead.
The magic within Alex's body flowed through his fingertips and into the woman's body. Originally, he had intended to check for internal injuries in order to determine her cause of death.
But as he felt the magical energy returning, Alex's face gradually turned serious.
Suddenly, he raised his head and quickly moved to another stasis pod. Inside was a soldier dressed in Asgardian-style armor.
Without hesitation, Alex placed his finger on the exposed forehead of the soldier.
Feeling the same energy reaction, Alex couldn't help but murmur quietly to himself.
"This is impossible."
"Mr. Alex, what's wrong?"
Although Alex's voice was quiet, it seemed unusually distinct in the silent surroundings. Brainstorm, hiding behind Billy Batson, asked curiously.
Upon hearing this, Alex sighed and spoke in an uncertain tone. "These people… their bodies are exactly like ordinary humans."
"Huh?" Billy tilted his head, not understanding Alex's meaning.
In fact, he didn't know if what he was understanding was what Alex was trying to convey.
Alex realized his explanation was vague, so he clarified. "These Asgardians, like Earthlings, don't have divine powers, strong muscles, or anything special."
"That's impossible! They are the people of the GodWorld, right? And there are Asgardian soldiers here too. They may not be gods, but they should be much stronger than Earthlings," Billy protested.
"I'm puzzled by this too. No matter how you look at it, these people should be Asgardians. It's as if… as if something has devoured their life force and divine power," Alex said.
He thought about the devouring magic he had been practicing all along. It seemed that only someone with abilities like his own could produce such a result.
"You mean, an unknown entity capable of devouring divine power has been hunting them, here, in the space turbulence?" Billy listened to Alex and felt like he was hearing some strange tale.
"I find it hard to believe as well, but the result speaks for itself. It's clear that some bizarre entity, with the ability to travel across dimensions, is hunting the surviving gods."
Now Alex understood why Odin had sent these two escape ships out. That entity likely ambushed the realm of the gods while Asgard was still recovering.
Who knows if the gods could return to Valhalla after being devoured, and more importantly, Alex had finally figured out the reason why the magic in the real dimension was decreasing.
If there is such an entity roaming in a dimension that is undetectable in the real world, one capable of devouring magic or divine power, and continuously hunting the lords and gods of various dimensions, the connection between the magic dimension and the real world would be completely severed.
"Alex, we can't let this entity gather strength in the shadows. If it really kills all the magic dimensions, it will eventually target the Wasteland," Billy said seriously.
Previously, Billy had accompanied Alex to other dimensions with a tourist's attitude. But now, after learning of the bizarre and threatening presence lurking in the shadows, Billy could no longer sit still.
"I've already lost one home. I don't want to see the same thing happen here," Billy added.
"I understand, Billy. Don't worry, I won't let that thing succeed," Alex said solemnly. "It dares to disturb the peace…"
Since the Overseers could not detect these dimensions, no one had suspected that danger was hidden here. But now that they knew, Alex certainly wouldn't stand idly by.
"The key issue now is that we need to know the identity of this entity. Only then can we formulate a proper response plan."
Brainstorm said seriously, "There are almost no signs of combat here. This means the entity is very strong, and the guards in a waking state were easily overpowered."
"That's true, but what happened to the bodies of those guards?" Billy frowned and looked at Alex.
"Besides the Asgardians in the stasis pods, I haven't sensed any other bodies. The killer most likely took them or threw them into the external space turbulence. We can't be sure," Alex shook his head.
"One more thing: these two escape ships were sent out from the GodWorld. The killer's initial target was probably the Asgardian realm, but then the killer pursued these two ships. Their tracking abilities must be very strong."
Being able to follow the trail of the rainbow bridge through space turbulence and reach this place, the killer's strength likely exceeded everyone's expectations.
"The good news is, this is a dimension within the Wasteland universe. The killer is most likely a 'local' from the Wasteland universe, rather than an outsider from another universe."
Alex licked his dry lips and narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Looks like, if we want to find specific clues, we should try our luck in the Asgardian realm."
