Chapter 417: Future Expectations
"Well, I certainly didn't expect you'd been this busy! I thought you spontaneously took some time off from leading a continent!… You could've told me… I mean told us, your friends! We would've helped!"
The two women sat on an abstract bench that Sera made. They gently leaned against one another while staring at the colorful, headache-inducing ground.
Bea's left hand stayed on Sera's waist, while the Angel placed her arm carefully around her friend's shoulder.
"Yeah, I kind of regretting that decision now, but to be fair, I wasn't really thinking straight when I left… And after arriving in North America, I felt it was too late, so I decided to venture forth only with Faith by my side…"
While speaking, her hand accidentally squeezed Bea's shoulder, which caused their eyes to meet. A pair of golden eyes with green edges stared into a pair of green with golden edges. They were both each other's opposite and reflection.
"Don't blame yourself. You weren't the only one making poor decisions… We can't change the past, so let's not focus on that anymore… What are you planning to do? When are you coming back?"
Sera smiled gently at her ex, then leaned back against the abstract bench, her hand gently brushing Bea's.
"My plans are pretty simple! I hold on to my sanity until the end, whenever that might be…"
"Eventually, I'll come back though, but for now I can't. North America is perfect for keeping control over my bloodlust, which I'll need in the near future! When the locks finally break, I will return!"
Bea just chuckled at Sera's serious words. She gently placed her head on the Angel's shoulder, which might've been an overstep, but since Sera said nothing, Bea stayed there.
"You're really ominous. When did you adopt this soothsayer personality? You're acting like a prophet or something… People miss you. Not just your leadership or fighting prowess… You were the glue keeping everyone together, we all feel lost without your presence…"
She couldn't help but blush while saying those words. There was a hidden meaning behind them, and she really hoped Sera wouldn't notice… However, Bea should've known better…
The Angel giggled, her shaking body reverberating in Bea's own. Her right hand's index finger made tiny circles along her ex's shoulder and arm.
"Oh, 'we' feel lost? I know you more than anyone else, Bea… Why don't you just say it! No need to feel embarrassed! There's nobody else here!…"
Bea's face turned red as a tomato. She kept trying to look away from Sera, but somehow those golden-green eyes always found hers.
"Come on, say it! What's the worst that could happen?"
Sera whispered right into Bea's ear. She had to suffocate a moan upon feeling her ex's breath gently brushing her sensitive skin.
Memories kept popping up in her head about intimate times spent together. Bea always felt weak when her partners whispered, licked, or bitten her ears. It was one of her secret sensitive areas, and Sera, of course, knew about it too!
"We… No, I miss you!… I spent a lot of time digesting everything. I regretted many decisions in my life… But my worst mistake was giving up on us!"
"When I came back from the other Realm, I believed everything would return to normal. However, I didn't expect you moving on, and I reacted like a child throwing a tantrum… I'm sorry for–"
Before Bea could've finished the sentence, Sera reached over and smacked her on the head. Confused, she glanced towards her ex. The Angel's face showed clear signs of anger, but it wasn't aimed towards Bea.
"Don't excuse my Rational Self's shitty behavior. While you didn't handle the situation the best, everything was mostly my fault… Also, don't forget who pushed us further away. Or did you forget why everyone got mad at you that night?"
Bea squeezed her free hand in anger until all her knuckles turned white. She remembered perfectly what happened. Even worse, Otto himself later told her the details… His lies…
Back then, Bea felt depressed and betrayed, so she found solace in drinking. Otto also appeared at her table and he happily drank with her.
However, later, when she was already his prisoner, he shared the details from that night…
She woke up next to Otto naked, and later he lied and said they shared some intimate moments, but in reality nothing happened. Otto simply put something in Bea's drink, which knocked even an Ascended out.
He said there was a moment when he played with the idea of rape, but instead he just took her clothes and laid in the same bed.
A shiver went down Bea's spine, just from recalling that horrible memory. Luckily, Sera's reassuring hand found hers and all it took was a gentle squeeze to banish all the awful thoughts.
"Don't blame yourself. If you really want to be angry at someone, let it be me, since my mistakes pushed you closer to Otto… I'm sorry for all the pain my Rational Half caused!"
Bea's anger ended as fast as it began. Her eyes slowly crawled up Sera's body until it landed back on her bewitching eyes. She snuggled a bit closer, her hand grabbing her ex's waist more tightly.
"Nope. I won't be mad at you… We all made mistakes, and as I said, we should leave them behind… I would love a fresh page to start over. So, how about instead of going on about our issues, let's forget everything and start anew!"
Sera's light laughter further helped in lifting Bea's spirits. She felt as the Angel's delicate hand played with a lock of her shiny, brown hair.
"That would be amazing, but sadly, it's not possible. I can't simply forget these past few years, no matter how hard I try… Instead of ignoring them, we learn from our mistakes, and see where this road will lead us!"
Bea's expression went from happy and hopeful to depressed, but as Sera continued talking, a smile began growing on her lips.
"Yeah, you're right, as always… But where does this leave us? Are we just exes? Maybe acquaintances? Friends, or perhaps something more?… I think I made my position obvious, but how about you?"
The Angel simply smiled and leaned her head against Bea's own. Their hairs cascaded down behind them, entangling like a golden-brown waterfall.
"We're everything you listed and something more! We're both mothers! We're both individuals who aspire to a better future!… And I'm fairly certain my position is also clear about our future. However, if we want to try again, we need to set a few rules!"
With glistening eyes, Bea glanced up at her ex in utter shock. She could barely believe Sera's words, but still they ignited the flames of love inside her heart.
Bea nodded enthusiastically, not willing to let this opportunity go to waste. She previously thought there was no future for them, however, this conversation easily proved her wrong.
"First, we can't jump in like last time, luckily the distance between us already prevents that, but even after we meet face-to-face, we need to take out time… Otherwise, a similar or even worse outcome awaits us!"
She agreed with Sera's sentiment instantly. Last time, they basically trauma bonded and, in the end, hurt each other pretty badly. They never truly dated, and instead jumped right into the relationship.
Now they've received a second chance at life, so they shouldn't make the same mistakes twice!
"Second, after I come back and everything cools down, we need to thoroughly talk about our family…"
"I don't want to pressure you or anything, but I'm Nick's mother. I know it's a sore subject because of Bran, but I'll always be his mother, and if that's a problem for you, we shouldn't even try with this relationship!"
Bea just giggled with a bit of embarrassment and discomfort. Sera's curious eyes stared down at her, and with a small blush, she explained…
"Well, actually… I already met little Nick, when Vicky introduced us… However, there was a bit of miscommunication… I called Vicky 'my daughter' and Nick… Uh… He called me 'mommy'…"
After saying those words, Bea's face only turned more red, and Sera's silence didn't help either. A few seconds later, though, the Angel's body began shaking as she burst into laughter.
"So at least one issue is solved!… I'm just a bit angry, since nobody told me my son had his first words! But that's not you fault, it's Vicky's!… I'll have Faith send an angry message to her!…"
"Anyway, you shouldn't feel pressure towards Nick. He probably already forgot how he referred to you. You don't have to be his parent figure if you prefer not to!"
For a moment, Bea nearly agreed with a wide grin. However, she quickly realized that this decision was like the time when they adopted Vicky…
It turned out as one of the best decision of Bea's life, nevertheless she agreed way too soon, without properly thinking through…
Bea didn't make the same mistakes twice, and so instead of agreeing or rejecting, she simply acknowledged Sera's words. She'll think everything through later, when her turbulent emotions calmed down.
"And finally, the third rule… Don't tell anyone about this conversation, especially not Vicky… There's a chance thing don't work out, and I don't want to get her hopes up!"
The magnificent woman, leaning against Sera, nodded slowly. Their conversation came to an end, which meant this reunion also reached its closure.
They stayed there silently, leaning against each other, reminiscing about happier times. Gradually, Bea began fading from the abstract world, from Sera's subconscious…
Their eyes met one final time before Bea finally returned to reality!
