Chapter 591: Chapter 591: Power Gap (Bonus Chapter)

"Gab, you shouldn't bully Satania like this."

Vignette just couldn't watch anymore. This had happened at least ten times already, and every time ended with Satania running away in tears.

"Hmph, she's the one challenging me, Vigne. Don't blame me for her bad luck."

Gabriel calmly inspected the pineapple buns (melonpan) she'd won, planning to snack on them while gaming through the night.

"I…"

Vignette gave a wry smile. She simply felt sorry for Satania. After all, they were all friends. She glanced at Raphiel, hoping she might persuade Gabriel and Satania to get along. But Raphiel was lost in thought, wordlessly staring at Gabriel.

She was recalling the day she accidentally witnessed that scene of Gabriel and Rei Ao doing… things. Ever since, she hadn't known how to treat Gabriel.

A couple of days ago, Raphiel also discovered that Gabriel had… picked up a habit of calling out Rei Ao's name while doing some self-gratification.

That was a far greater fall from angelic grace than an obsession with video games. Should she just ignore it? Raphiel worried about what Gabriel's older sister, Zelel, might say if she ever found out. It would definitely be bad.

"Sigh…"

"Raphiel, why the heavy sigh?"

Vignette asked curiously.

"It's nothing. I'm just worried about Gab's future."

"Huh?"

Gabriel blinked, staring with wide, puzzled eyes.

"What could be wrong with my future?"

"It's… never mind, forget it."

In the end, Raphiel decided to keep quiet. Maybe things would work out somehow…

Meanwhile…

"Die!!! Roar!!!"

The Tiger King monster let loose an earth-shaking roar, firing a blood-red blast of energy straight at Fubuki. Panicking, Fubuki raised her telekinetic power to block it. She managed to deflect the attack—but barely.

"!!!"

Blood dripped from the corner of her mouth. After a few rounds of exchanging blows, she had to face the harsh reality: this so-called "Tiger King" had far surpassed Wolf-level, and had definitely reached Tiger-level—or maybe even Demon-level.

He was just toying with her.

"Damn it!!!"

Right now, the best course of action was to flee. But what about the people behind her? Sure, she'd used underhanded tactics to recruit heroes in the past, but that didn't mean she would abandon innocent civilians. She was a hero, after all.

"Tch. Boring."

The Tiger King seemed tired of playing. He grinned, baring his razor-sharp fangs.

"Time for me to rip you all to shreds."

Clang!

Long claws extended from his paws, several meters in length, gleaming ominously. Simply brushing against the ground, they sliced it like soft tofu.

Fubuki's psychic aura flared around her, preparing to shield herself again. Surely the Hero Association knows something's off. They should be sending backup, she told herself. But in the blink of an eye—

Whoosh!

He vanished.

"Where—?!"

She frantically looked around.

Whoosh!

A gust of wind slammed her ears. Fubuki froze; a massive shadow loomed over her. The Tiger King was right in front of her, far faster than she could react.

"Die, human!"

Clang!!!

His lethal claws came down. Fubuki was sure her body would be sliced in two. His speed was so overwhelming, she couldn't even muster the slightest telekinetic defense. This was her first time truly tasting the despair of death.

Am I… really going to die here?

She stared blankly.

"Stay away from her!!!"

Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out.

"???"

The Tiger King paused mid-strike, slowly lifting his fierce head. Above him hovered a woman with green hair, face twisted with anger.

"Who said…you could lay a finger on her?!"

The woman's eyes flashed.

"!!!"

The Tiger King—frozen in place—found himself lifted into the air as though held by invisible hands.

"Sis…"

Fubuki stared in amazement at the figure above. It was her sister, Terrible Tornado (Tatsumaki), the S-Class Rank #2 hero.

"Hmph."

Tatsumaki threw Fubuki a cold look.

"We'll talk about you later."

"… …"

Fubuki hung her head in embarrassment. That look again… She dug her nails into her palms.

Tatsumaki turned her focus back to the Tiger King, who remained suspended in midair by psychokinesis.

"So you're the one who tried to kill Fubuki?"

"Who the hell are you?! Let me go! I'll tear you apart!!!"

He roared, furious.

"Hmph. Anyone who threatens my sister… can go die."

Tatsumaki made a slight clenching motion. Her invisible psychic force twisted and crushed the Tiger King's body.

"Urgh—aaaargh!!!"

He howled in agony, bloodshot eyes brimming with confusion and resentment. I am the Tiger King. I fused with countless tigers and became a Demon-level threat. Why was he so helpless?

Then he exploded, showering the earth with chunks of flesh and blood like a downpour. No dramatic reason or flourish—just a fundamental difference in power. Even a high-level Demon monster, or in some cases a moderate Dragon-level threat, could be crushed by Tatsumaki.

She descended slowly to the ground.

"We're saved!"

"It's the #2 S-Class hero, Terrible Tornado!!!"

The survivors cheered, hearts throbbing with admiration. But nearly all of them forgot about Fubuki, who'd been protecting them up to now.

"What are you doing here?"

Tatsumaki demanded in a chilly voice, facing Fubuki.

"I…"

Fubuki tried to answer, but Tatsumaki cut her off.

"Never mind. I don't care. Go home. It's dangerous out here. I'll protect you. Stop playing pretend-hero."

With that, she flew away, leaving Fubuki rooted to the spot, stunned.

"Playing pretend…"

She couldn't understand why her sister refused to acknowledge her efforts. Did Tatsumaki really see her hero work as a child's game? Why…? Why won't she ever recognize me?

Because… I'm too weak!

Fubuki clenched her teeth, eyes steeling with resolve.

"I—I need to get stronger!"
