Chapter 211: CH. 205: Fuse

Flashback

Roxanne skipped through the bustling schoolyard, her pink backpack bouncing with every step. Her bright eyes sparkled with curiosity as she took in the sight of children laughing, playing, and shouting all around her. It was her first day at this human school, and she was bubbling with excitement.

In the corner of the yard, she spotted a girl struggling with a juice box, her freckled cheeks puffed in frustration as she tried to force the straw through the stubborn foil. Roxanne's lips curled into a playful smile as she skipped over.

"Hi there!" Roxanne chirped, her voice lilting and sweet.

The freckled girl froze, her brown eyes wide as she looked up. "Uh, hi…" she muttered, clearly embarrassed by her struggle.

Roxanne tilted her head, her silver hair shimmering under the sun. "Do you need help? That juice box looks like it's winning."

The girl hesitated before thrusting the box toward Roxanne. "It's stupid. It won't open."

Roxanne giggled, the sound like the tinkling of tiny bells, and took the juice box. With a swift, practiced motion, she pierced the straw through. "There! All better!"

The girl's face lit up with a grin. "Wow! You're amazing! Thanks!"

Roxanne puffed out her chest proudly. "No problem! I'm Roxanne, by the way. Wanna be friends?"

The girl beamed. "I'm Emily! Yeah, let's be friends!"

From that moment, the two were inseparable. They played together during recess, sat beside each other in class, and shared snacks. For weeks, Roxanne found Emily's laughter infectious, her simple joy something foreign but intriguing.

But there was always something lurking beneath Roxanne's perfect exterior. She didn't fully understand it then, but her connection to Emily was different—deeper, yet fragile. Emily was a puzzle she enjoyed solving, but even puzzles eventually became boring.

The flashback faded as Roxanne stared blankly at the bloodstained floor of the principal's office, her grin returning as she thought back to that first meeting. Emily had been fun—until she wasn't.

It was just after recess, and the playground was clearing as the bell signaled the return to class. Roxanne, walking a few steps behind Emily, suddenly stopped in her tracks.

Ahead of her, Emily was on the ground, her lunch scattered in the dirt. A fat boy loomed over her, sneering as he kicked her sandwich aside. Beside him stood a skinny boy, his eyes darting nervously as he shuffled his feet, clearly uncomfortable but unwilling to intervene.

"Pick it up, loser," the fat boy sneered, his voice dripping with mockery. "Or maybe I'll just step on it."

Emily scrambled, her face red with embarrassment and tears welling in her eyes. "Leave me alone!" she shouted, but her voice wavered.

The skinny boy glanced at the fat one. "M-maybe we should stop, Carl. The bell rang," he said hesitantly, his voice low.

"Shut it, Danny," Carl snapped, shoving the skinnier boy back. "I'm teaching her a lesson."

Roxanne's silver hair swayed as she took a step forward, her usually cheerful expression darkening. Her eyes locked onto Carl, a cold, calculating glint flashing within them.

"Hey," Roxanne said, her voice calm but with an edge that made Carl pause.

The fat boy turned, his face twisting into a sneer. "What do you want, princess? This doesn't concern you."

Roxanne tilted her head, her gaze fixed on him like a predator sizing up prey. "Oh, it concerns me," she said softly. "You see, Emily's my friend. And I don't like when people mess with my friends."

Carl laughed, a short, harsh bark. "And what are you gonna do about it, huh? Cry?"

Emily, still on the ground, whispered, "Roxanne, don't... It's okay…"

Roxanne smiled—a sweet, innocent smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Emily, don't worry. I'll take care of it."

Carl raised a fist, mockingly pretending to be scared. "Ooh, I'm so scared of the little girl! What are you gonna do, huh?"

Danny took a cautious step back, his unease growing as Roxanne moved closer. Something about her seemed... off.

Roxanne stopped just a step away from Carl, her small hand clenching into a fist. Her voice dropped to a chilling whisper. "You'll find out."

Carl cackled, shaking the can of soda in his hand before tipping it over Emily's head. The fizzy liquid splashed down, soaking her hair and dripping onto her clothes.

"Look at you now," Carl sneered. "Crying like the little baby you are."

Emily winced, her hands clutching at the soaked hem of her dress as she sat frozen on the ground, tears streaming silently down her cheeks. She didn't fight back, only trembling under the humiliation.

"Maybe this'll teach you not to be such a loser," Carl added, crushing the empty can under his foot.

Danny looked away, his discomfort evident, but he didn't say a word.

Emily's sobs grew louder, each tear carving streaks down her dirtied cheeks. The soda dripped from her hair onto her uniform, staining it, as Carl laughed cruelly.

"Look at her, such a little crybaby," Carl jeered, shaking the empty can in his hand. "What're you gonna do, huh? Just sit there and bawl?"

Emily hugged her knees, her tiny shoulders shaking uncontrollably. She didn't speak, didn't defend herself—she just cried, her voice cracking with pain and helplessness.

That sound, those heart-wrenching cries, struck something deep within Roxanne. Her body stiffened as a sudden heat coursed through her veins.

Her vision blurred for a moment, replaced by a vivid red glow as the voice invaded her mind. It was sharp, commanding, relentless.

"Kill. Kill. Kill."

Roxanne stumbled back, clutching her head, but the voice wouldn't relent. It surged, filling her mind with violent images, drowning her in its cruel whispers.

Carl turned to her with a smirk. "What's wrong with you? Gonna cry too, freak? Just like your loser friend?"

Roxanne didn't answer. She couldn't. The sound of Emily's cries became a deafening roar in her ears, fusing with the voice that demanded retribution. Her eyes snapped open, glowing like fiery embers, and a cruel, almost feral smile spread across her face.

"Silence him. For dad." She heard.

Without a word, Roxanne leaped forward like a predator unleashed. Carl barely had time to widen his eyes in shock before her small frame collided with him, sending them both tumbling to the ground.

"W-what the—?!" Carl's voice cut off with a gurgling scream as Roxanne sank her teeth into his neck, tearing into flesh with raw, unrestrained fury.

Blood spurted from the wound, warm and metallic, staining her face and hands. Carl's screams echoed across the yard, but Roxanne didn't stop. She bit deeper, pulling away chunks of tissue as his thrashing weakened.

Danny stumbled back, pale and horrified. "Oh my god..."

Emily sat frozen, tears streaming down her face, unable to comprehend the brutal sight in front of her.

Carl's laughter, his jeers, the taunts—they were all silenced now, replaced by the wet, grotesque sound of Roxanne's fury. The whispers in her mind quieted, replaced by a strange satisfaction as she finally pulled back, her face and hands drenched in blood.

Carl's body convulsed one last time before going limp beneath her.

Roxanne stood, her glowing eyes fading, and turned to Emily with a wide smile that sent chills down her spine. "He won't bother you anymore."

Roxanne's bloodied grin faltered as Emily scrambled to her feet, tears of terror replacing those of humiliation.

"Y-you're a monster!" Emily screamed, her voice cracking with panic. She stumbled back, her eyes wide with fear, before turning and sprinting toward the school building.

"Emily, wait!" Roxanne called after her, stepping forward. She reached out, but her bloodstained hands only made Emily run faster.

The echoes of Emily's cries for help—"Teacher! Someone help! She killed him!"—reverberated through the air, each word striking Roxanne like a blow.

She looked down at Carl's lifeless body, his blood pooling beneath him, then at her own trembling hands.

Roxanne knelt beside Carl's lifeless body, her small frame trembling with adrenaline. Blood coated her hands and lips, but her expression was serene, almost joyful. She gazed upward as if addressing someone unseen.

"I did it, Dad," she whispered, her voice steady despite the chaos around her. A faint smile crossed her face, innocent and proud. "I hope you're proud of me."

The words hung in the air like a chilling echo, mixing with the distant sound of approaching footsteps and Emily's frantic cries for help.

Meanwhile, Danny watched from a distance, his eyes wide as he saw Roxanne standing over Carl's lifeless body. Her hands were covered in blood, her expression a mix of triumph and confusion. Danny felt an overwhelming surge of emotions—fear, fascination, and a strange sense of awe. Despite the terror of the moment, he couldn't look away. Roxanne's power, her overwhelming strength, and the fearlessness with which she acted seemed so foreign to him, yet he couldn't deny the pull of her presence.

He swallowed hard, a conflicted expression crossing his face as he realized just how much had changed in the short period he'd known her.

Danny quickly grabbed Roxanne's hand, his voice urgent but laced with concern. "We need to get out of here. Now."

Roxanne blinked, her mind still clouded with the aftermath of her actions, but the urgency in Danny's voice snapped her back to reality. Without a word, she stood up, her small frame still trembling with adrenaline. She let Danny lead the way, her footsteps heavy but determined as they bolted from the scene, fleeing into the chaos of the school grounds.

The weight of what had just happened hung in the air, but for the moment, all that mattered was escaping.
