...................................................................................

Inside the empty ground floor lobby of the apartment building, the sound of footsteps echoed from the staircase at the far end, where no doors had yet been installed.

The footsteps were steady, each one crisp and precise.

This caused the eyes of the squad members crouching on the ground—some manning light machine guns, others holding assault rifles—to gradually sharpen, growing cold with tension.

At that moment, one of the prone gunners, already in a firing stance, placed his finger against the trigger. A mere ounce more of pressure, and a deadly burst of fire would erupt, turning the target into a hive of bullets.

Meanwhile, through the bodycams mounted on the soldiers, Ryoko Yakushiji stood inside the command room, holding a cup of coffee, her gaze amused as she watched the footage showing the stairwell.

"Come on now. Let's see if you strut right out of the lobby or if you decide to turtle up and scurry back inside."

She smirked, voice filled with anticipation. "Go on, show me your choice."

And with Ryoko's taunting words hanging in the air, the camera feed showed a blonde nun—her outfit stained with dirt but her allure undiminished—stepping into view.

"Open fire!!"

Group 2's six-man LMG team and another six armed with assault rifles all opened fire in unison toward Sharon's position.

A deafening chorus of gunfire tore through the night sky.

Yet in the face of this brutal crossfire, Sharon suddenly took a single step forward. Immediately, a tight row of bullet holes appeared on the wall behind her.

She moved forward, sidestepped, occasionally even stepping back. Under the dumbfounded stares of the squad, she weaved through the barrage, her head casually turning left and right to scan her surroundings as if she were simply strolling through a park. Then, she raised her submachine gun and fired a few shots at one of the soldiers wielding a grenade launcher.

The bullets struck not the man, but the weapon.

Like a pacifist in a war zone, Sharon—no, the being controlling her—seemed intent on disabling only the enemy's weapons, calmly strolling through a storm of gunfire like it was a walk in the garden.

"What kind of sick joke is this?!"

Watching the scene unfold through the monitor, Ryoko Yakushiji stood up in disbelief, her eyes wide.

At the same time, standing beside a truck and watching the same footage, Kirika Tachibana instinctively turned toward Chisato Nishikigi.

After all, in her memory, Chisato was one of the rare few who could dodge bullets at close range.

Understanding what Kirika was thinking, Chisato quickly raised her hand. "No, no, no. I might be able to dodge a few machine gunners, maybe three or four—but a dozen? With crossfire coverage? My body wouldn't keep up at all!"

"So, you're saying that if your physical abilities were better, you could dodge it?" Kirika murmured, something clearly sparking in her mind. "In that case, Chisato, when we get back, I'll figure out a way to enhance your body."

"Wait, hold on a minute—" Chisato froze, immediately thinking of those godawful enhancement drugs. She was stunned.

That's not what I meant!

Just then, a scream came through their earpieces.

It was Sharon. She had already closed the distance with the Special Response Team members using her enhanced physique, and in the blink of an eye had taken down the remaining 15 members of Assault Team A.

After doing so, she expressionlessly tossed aside her nearly empty submachine gun, kicked an assault rifle into the air, caught it, and ducked beneath a sniper shot. She then snatched a magazine off one of the downed soldiers.

"Oh-ho?"

She turned and glanced at the soldier who had just been hit by the sniper fire, watching him twitch on the ground. With a faint shake of her head, she didn't even look directly as she casually fired a single shot toward the outside.

480 meters away, a sniper clutched his wounded arm—his rifle ruined—his expression twisted in horror as he stared at the building and mumbled to himself:

"Can't hit her… I can't hit her at all…"

"Is… is that even human?"

Maki Shiro, watching the monitor, had unknowingly stood up at some point. He stared at the screen, utterly incredulous. "Under thirty seconds… she broke through a fifteen-man fire network without a single injury? This… is this thing even from this planet?"

Standing beside him, Ryoko Yakushiji bit the nail of her thumb, her gaze intense and silent for a moment before she finally said, "Have the mortar unit stand by. If Team B shows any sign of failing, fire immediately."

"You're insane!" Maki Shiro could no longer care about ranks or protocol and shouted, "My people are still out there!"

"And what would you have me do?" Ryoko replied icily. "Let her escape and have her stalking us from the shadows? Are you ready to die?"

Maki Shiro was stunned silent.

A minute ago, he might've been able to laugh it off—maybe even scoff at Sharon. But now… all he felt was terror.

Snipers were useless. The fire network couldn't touch her. Her movement speed exceeded human visual tracking. She could twist someone's neck with a flick of her hand.

Assassinated by an enemy like that? Unless Maki Shiro locked himself in a nuclear bunker or unleashed city-level firepower, there was no escape from that fate.

But unleashing that kind of firepower in a populated urban district? He'd be dead anyway.

Realizing this, Maki Shiro slumped back into his seat with a heavy thud.

By now, the surveillance feed had switched to the city's traffic monitoring system—because Sharon had already appeared at the street corner.

"Oh?"

Sharon arched an eyebrow. Though her face was still somewhat pale, there was a glint of amusement playing on her striking features.

Across from her, in front of two sandbag barricades, several Special Response Team soldiers stood silently, watching her.

They hadn't fired. But neither had they lowered their weapons.

Then, with a serene tone, Luo Shu—still controlling Sharon's body—spoke: "Apologies, but I've got you surrounded."

Fifteen armed soldiers, surrounded by a single nun. The absurdity of the phrase didn't bring a single smile to anyone's face.

"I need a car. And five million dollars. Mmm… that seems like a pretty generous price for letting you all live, don't you think?"

Hearing that soft, feminine voice say such outrageous things, one of the soldiers finally snapped and shouted:

"Are you freaking kidding me?!"

Muzzles flared with light as the machine guns opened fire in the darkness.

But the monster across from them simply sidestepped, weaving smoothly to the side and avoiding every bullet. She even had the leisure to brush the hair from her face, gathering her slightly dusty blonde locks and tying them into a neat ponytail.

Click! Click!

The sound of emptied magazines echoed through the silence, but it did nothing to calm the soldiers. One by one, they silently drew handguns and even combat knives, preparing for close-quarters combat.

Stepping over a floor riddled with bullet holes, Sharon nodded approvingly, a faint smile on her lips as she approached. "Not bad, soldiers. But next time, try to stay a little calmer, hmm?"

As she drew closer, the soldiers began trembling uncontrollably.

Some couldn't even hold back a sob.

"—Don't come any closer!!!"

Just as the soldier's terrified scream rang out—

Back at the command room, Ryoko Yakushiji, her face void of emotion, pressed a finger to her earpiece and issued a single cold command:

"Fire the mortars."
