Chapter 67: "66: Way Too Arrogant"
Night had deepened.
Yet police cars with flashing lights were stationed on every street corner.
"Reporting to Inspector Megure: Barricades have been set up on Street A."
"Reporting: Street B is now cordoned off."
"Reporting: Streets C and D are also under lockdown."
Once all routes were confirmed secured, Inspector Megure took a deep breath and then spoke into his walkie-talkie.
"All units, attention. All units, attention... A blue Ferrari with license plate Shinagawa 5999 is about to pass through our lockdown zone. No one is to intercept it—repeat, no one is to intercept it under any circumstances."
After giving the command, Megure paused and glanced at Miwako Sato beside him, lowering his voice to ask, "Where's the car now?"
Miwako turned to glance into the nearby patrol car, checking the red tracking signal on the instrument panel before replying, "It's about to pass us, Inspector Megure."
"I see..." Megure muttered darkly, then warned her in a hushed tone, "No matter what happens, don't act impulsively. Understand?"
At that, Miwako and the nearby officers in charge of roadblocks all fell into a grim silence.
Honk honk! A horn blared.
A blue convertible Ferrari bearing the Shinagawa 5999 plate slowly pulled up beside the police vehicles.
Sitting in the driver's seat on the left, a stunningly beautiful blonde woman in a blue nun's habit and dark sunglasses casually waved at Megure and the others.
"Thanks for your hard work, everyone~ Keep it up!"
Witnessing this, Wataru Takagi couldn't help but mutter, "She's way too arrogant..."
"Inspector, calm down, calm down..." Miwako quickly grabbed Megure's sleeve as he began to roll it up, reminding him, "Weren't you the one who just said not to act rashly no matter what?"
"...I know."
Megure stopped, took a deep breath, and addressed Sharon.
"Get moving already, Miss Criminal. I don't know how you managed this, but please, don't provoke us any further."
"Hmm..." Sharon raised her chin slightly, then smirked. "So, you're in the know, huh?"
Megure was quiet for a moment, then explained, "I'm the one who coordinated the roadblocks and facilitated access for the Special Action Team around that apartment building earlier."
"Well, now that is a coincidence," Sharon said with a mock-enlightened expression. Then, curiously, she asked, "Did the action team make it out alive?"
Megure frowned. As an officer, he naturally wanted to arrest this extremely dangerous criminal. But at the same time, he was genuinely puzzled about how the entire elite unit had survived the encounter.
"All 54 members of the Special Action Team made it out without a scratch."
Hearing that, Sharon clicked her tongue in amusement.
"Tsk, tsk, that's worth documenting! I really am a great shot, huh?"
Then she casually asked Megure, "How about inviting me to your police HQ as a firearms instructor?"
"That won't be necessary," Megure growled through clenched teeth. Asking a terrorist to teach shooting? Where would that leave their credibility?
"Such a shame..." Sharon said with a carefree wave. "Until next time, Brother Megure~"
As the sports car roared to life and pulled away, Megure's face turned a deep shade of green.
He, who always called others "brother," had just been addressed as "little brother" by a girl young enough to be his daughter. It was mortifying.
"Damn it... why the hell did HQ let her go!?"
"Inspector, please calm down!" Miwako tried to soothe him, though she herself was clearly frustrated. But Megure's face was already pitch black.
Meanwhile, other officers from the Violent Crimes Division approached and began venting.
"Never seen such an arrogant criminal before."
"And a nun at that. Has her faith taken her straight to hell?"
"Seriously, a woman like that calling herself a nun is a mockery of religion."
"Am I the only one who thinks that nun looked hot?"
At that, all eyes turned toward Wataru Takagi.
"Uh..." Takagi froze, scratching his cheek awkwardly. "Did I say something wrong?"
Inspector Megure turned his head slowly and said meaningfully, "Takagi, my boy."
"Sir!"
"Go write a 10,000-word self-reflection. I want it on my desk tomorrow morning. That all right?"
"But Inspector, it's already almost 10 PM..."
"That all right?"
"...Yes, sir."
Takagi was nearly in tears.
Meanwhile, in the bustling streets of East Tokyo, Luo Shu was experiencing what it felt like to drive at 100 km/h in the middle of the night.
The speed was exhilarating. The wind was strong and cold. And, he noted, Ferrari seats were surprisingly uncomfortable—his back hurt.
That aside, having an escort of police vehicles was quite convenient. They were ushered straight onto the expressway to the airport without a single obstacle.
They're really letting us go... without even being taken hostage? That woman?
Sharon found it hard to believe Ryoko Yakushiji would be that trustworthy.
Luo Shu knew what she was thinking and calmly replied, "Under normal circumstances, of course not. But a woman who's ingested succubus blood... well, that changes things."
Succubus blood... Sharon repeated mentally, her expression growing complex.
"Yes, succubus blood. Extracted from the heart of a succubus," Luo Shu explained with zero effort to hide how underhanded he was being. "Of course, it's diluted. But that little dose serves as a mental anchor. With it, the holder of the Heart of the Demon can interfere slightly with Lady Yakushiji's mind."
Sharon fell into silence.
So, the pill Ryoko Yakushiji swallowed earlier... was diluted succubus blood?
"Correct."
Luo Shu spoke with a tone of benevolence, as if this was an act of mercy.
"That woman, apart from her foul mouth, hasn't done anything truly evil. She took a bullet to the arm. Giving her a sip of succubus blood, hypnotizing her occasionally to make her cooperate—it's not too much, right?"
"After all, Sharon, you're kind-hearted, aren't you?"
But you're utterly heartless... Sharon could already imagine what fate awaited Ryoko Yakushiji.
The blood of a demon—especially a succubus—was known to be dangerously corruptive. Once tainted by it, escaping its influence was no easy feat.
Still, whatever became of Yakushiji wasn't her problem. What Sharon cared about now was her own safety.
(So, how do you plan to shake those tails?) she asked. Since they hit the expressway, several vehicles had started trailing them—clearly government agents.
Even though Yakushiji had issued multiple orders to cease pursuit, there were still people inside the Metropolitan Police Department unwilling to let a dangerous criminal like Sharon slip away.
With the roads blocked and the openness of the highway, they now had the freedom to deploy heavy weapons if needed.
"We should meet," Luo Shu suddenly said.
(You think now is a good time to meet?) Sharon asked, her tone uneasy.
But Luo Shu replied firmly, "There's no better time than now, is there?"
As his words fell, Sharon's vision suddenly turned completely white.
