Anomalous Creatures

Chapter 32: The Correct Usage of Non-Human Girls

"Business trip? To Europe?" Kevin looked at Raven 12345 in surprise, "How come I have a foreign tenant?"

Raven 12345 scrutinized Kevin with a strange look up and down, "When will your mindset catch up? I already said they're abnormal creatures, they don't have nationalities! That vampire of yours was born when Homo sapiens were still learning to walk upright, what nationality is she?"

Kevin quickly patted his forehead and admitted his mistake, saying that he was bound by Earthlings' rigid and outdated thinking. Then he quickly inquired about the details of the mission, "Who are we picking up? Where exactly? When do we leave? And most importantly, will the organization reimburse the round-trip airfare?"

"Look at you," Raven 12345 glanced at Kevin askance, "Don't worry, all your expenses will be reimbursed by the organization. Originally, I planned to just open a portal for you, but considering that new employees need training, it's better to give you funds and let you figure it out yourself. As for what your 'client' looks like...uh, I'm not sure either. His journey here was special, he should be disguised. But the data terminal you're carrying will emit a recognition signal, and he'll actively seek you out for contact. Besides, you don't have to worry about passports or other paperwork, I've already prepared them for you through 'special channels'. Take them when you leave later."

Kevin nodded repeatedly, then suddenly remembered something, "Oh yeah, what about the two at my house? They still fight every now and then... I really can't just leave them alone at home!"

"Bring those two with you, they might come in handy. I've also prepared the paperwork for them," Raven 12345 waved her delicate hand, "After all, that vampire has traveled around the world, and the werewolf can help you in a fight. Consider this as team-building. Don't worry about them not agreeing, I've roughly checked on their situation, those two... are idle."

Kevin was curious about what was meant by "team-building" and "coming in handy," and instinctively felt a vague sense of crisis, but he didn't ask further: Raven 12345 was happy to explain the current situation, but never revealed future developments in advance, and he already knew this.

"Once you've clarified the situation, go ahead and leave," Raven 12345 patted Kevin on the shoulder, "Go back and check your bank account, the funds for this mission are in there. I'll send the specific contact location and details to your data terminal this afternoon. This is a small task, every trainee investigator starts with these trivial matters. Train well."

Kevin barely had time to nod before he felt a whirlwind in front of his eyes. When he regained consciousness, he found himself back on the highway near Wangba Tuozi. The throbbing pain in his shoulder and the mysterious file bag that had somehow appeared in his hand convinced him that his previous experience was not a dream. Every time he visited that mansion, he had a surreal dream-like feeling, mainly because the process of spatial teleportation was too bizarre.

He recalled Raven 12345 mentioning transferring funds to his bank account earlier and couldn't help but pull at the corner of his mouth. Never mind how she got his card number; that woman was all-powerful, and nothing she did was surprising. What was truly worth complaining about was that even working for a deity required such methods to allocate funds... It really didn't seem right.

"Oh, I forgot something!" Kevin suddenly slapped his forehead. "I haven't asked about Weilili's failed blood magic yet!"

A couple of days ago, Weilili tried to use blood magic to soothe Kevin's "nightmares," but neither the magic nor the vampire blood worked. Instead, Kevin absorbed both, which had been bugging him ever since. However, during his meeting with Raven 12345, he was caught up in her rhythm and forgot to ask.

Looking at the bright sky above, and considering how busy Raven 12345 seemed, Kevin shook his head and decided to ask next time.

Taking a car back to Baishi Road in the southern suburbs, Kevin was relieved to see that his house appeared to be fine—no smoke billowing, no suspicious explosions. It seemed that the two superheroines hadn't fought while he was out. Of course, it was also possible that Lily had gone out on a "house call" and hadn't returned yet. Kevin approached, took out his keys, opened the door, and called out to the living room before seeing anyone, "I'm back!"

The house was eerily silent, without a sound of anyone. Kevin entered, closed the door, and found that there was not a peep to be heard. The air conditioning in the living room was also off. Kevin peered around for a long time before only "Gun" casually emerged from the kitchen to greet him.

"WTF... Did those two superheroines go out to duel?"

Kevin suddenly thought of a chilling possibility. Originally, he wasn't such a pessimistic person, but ever since Weilili and Lily almost came to blows over the question of "whether a Tibetan mastiff can beat a wolf," he realized that as long as those two superheroines lived with him, he had to develop the habit of thinking negatively about everything. As long as they were out of his sight, anything was possible!

Kevin felt a wave of unease. It was already hot today, and he had walked in the sun all the way. Now he felt sweat pouring down his body. He found the air conditioning remote to cool himself down but discovered that there was a power outage.

"What's going on today... Just got a mission and everything is going wrong?" Kevin thought superstitiously.

Just then, he suddenly heard two very familiar girls' voices from the doorway, and a weight lifted off his mind: It was Weilili and Lily coming back. It seemed they hadn't gone out to duel.

"Hey, landlord, you're back?" Lily was the first to bounce into the room, reacting excitedly upon seeing Kevin, "It's almost noon, shall we eat, landlord?"

... This wolf-girl's brain might be made of noodles and rice. Whenever mealtime comes, she can't think of anything else!

"Where did you guys go?" Kevin wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked at Weilili (Lily had already entered the meal-waiting state at this point, basically useless for conversation), "I thought you went out to duel."

"There was a power outage earlier, and I thought it was time to pay the electricity bill," Weilili smiled, "So I went out and asked Big Dog to come with me."

Lily surprisingly didn't jump up to argue with Weilili: This ditzy one gets called "Big Dog" by Weilili all the time and can't react anymore.

"You need a team to pay the electricity bill?" Kevin looked at Weilili strangely but quickly realized, "Oh right, you can't touch money."

Weilili's smile stiffened instantly. Getting hit where it hurts must not feel good, but in the end, she shrugged indifferently, "The transformer in the neighborhood blew up, and the power has been out for half a day."

Kevin said, "Oh," and picked up a magazine beside him to fan himself, "This is terrible. It's so hot today... The timing of this power outage couldn't be worse. Hey Lily, what's wrong with you?"

Lily was squatting on the sofa on all fours, sticking out her tongue and panting hard, "I ran a bit too fast when coming back just now, and I'm a bit hot."

Weilili and Kevin were both stunned: Saying Lily is a big dog is really not wrong at all. This heat dissipation method is too high-end!

Although seeing such a pretty girl expose such a ditzy side has a certain kind of cute charm, Kevin still felt a bit uneasy watching. So he euphemistically reminded Lily, "In your current form... do you still need to stick out your tongue?"

Lily thought for a moment, touched the fine sweat on her body, and finally realized. She quickly resumed a normal sitting position and tucked her tongue back in, "Oh, habit. I always forget. I haven't changed it in so many years."

Kevin chuckled nervously, not knowing what to say at this moment. However, just then, a cool breeze suddenly blew from beside him.

He turned around in surprise and saw that Weilili had transformed into her vampire state, with visible pale red mist swirling around her. She was emitting cold air while waving two small folding fans vigorously in all directions...

"Landlord, how about this?"

Kevin's eyes widened in astonishment, "Wow, is that really possible?!"

At this moment, Lily forgot that the other person was her mortal enemy and quickly approached, blowing cool air while asking, "Hey, you with wings, don't you usually have a weird smell when you emit cold air?"

Weilili raised an eyebrow, "That's only for fighting. Can't I enjoy some pure air when I cool myself down usually?"

Kevin was amazed at the correct usage of a non-human girl, with a smile spreading across his face, "Alright Weilili, you can be the air conditioner from now on. The electricity savings alone would be enough to cover your rent for half a month!"

Then he announced the task he had just received from Raven 12345, "By the way, I'll be going on a trip in a couple of days, it's a task from the Temporal Management Bureau. I'll be going to Europe, and there's no time limit. You'd better come along, how about it, do you have time?"
