Chapter 37: The "Job" of Raven 12345
Thanks to that five-figure White-haired Witch, the abundant funding she provided allowed Kevin to enjoy a life of affluence in a foreign land. Of course, he couldn't compare to true tycoons, but at least for Kevin, booking a suite with two bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom in a hotel of this calibre already qualified him as wealthy. After bumbling through the check-in process, the three of them followed the hotel bellboy to the room they had booked two days ago. By the time they entered, Lily was so sleepy that she had completely lost her humanity, entering the room on all fours.
Kevin could only explain to the stunned bellboy beside him, "Sleepwalking, sleepwalking..."
The bellboy had a strange expression on his face; presumably, he had never seen anyone sleepwalking to this extent in his life. However, his good professional ethics made him wisely avoid asking any more questions. He merely explained the suite facilities and hotel services in slightly strange but relatively standard Mandarin, before bidding farewell and leaving.
"The hotel advertisement was right; look at how well this person speaks Mandarin, much better than your English," Kevin said while dragging Lily towards the small living room, without forgetting to turn around and tease Weilili a bit. "Make sure the door is closed properly, and use your supernatural senses to confirm there are no cameras or anything like that in this room. I don't want to alert any scientists who shouldn't be involved."
Weilili pursed her lips, checked the door, and then muttered some incantations while seemingly writing some characters in the air on the door. Only then did she turn around and say, "Alright, I'll know immediately if anyone approaches."
Kevin nodded, threw the sleeping Lily onto the living room sofa, and finally had the chance to take a good look at the surroundings. Honestly speaking, this was the most luxurious hotel room he had ever stayed in. The living room was covered with a thick light yellow carpet, and the warm-toned lighting on the walls gave people a reassuring sense of warmth. On one side of the living room were an LCD TV and a small wine cabinet, while on the other side were sofas, coffee tables, and furniture for entertaining guests. At the north and south ends of the living room were two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom: this last point was a must, as Kevin knew he couldn't share a room with the two girls, but he dared not let these two unreliable female superheroes out of his sight, so he had to book a suite with two bedrooms, one for himself and one for the two female superheroes.
Actually, there was a hidden danger, which was whether Lily and Weilili would fight when staying together. But at the time of booking the hotel, they couldn't find a suitable one, so they had to make do with it. Anyway, before setting out, the two female superheroes had solemnly promised to get along harmoniously during the trip. Of course, the credibility of that promise was questionable.
Kevin, like a country bumpkin, satisfaction surveyed the suite which he considered quite luxurious (although in the eyes of true wealthy people, this could only be considered as rising above poverty). At this moment, Lily beside him suddenly opened her eyes. The werewolf girl sat up straight like a carp jumping, stretched her vigorously, and shouted, "Landlord, have we arrived?"
Kevin looked at Lily, who was full of energy, with a strange expression. The bright morning sunlight from the floor-to-ceiling window was shining obliquely on her face: it was now 6:30 a.m. local time, and Lily's inherent nap time in her biological clock had just ended. The magical werewolf girl was wide awake to the second.
"I have a feeling that this mission is going to be a disaster," Kevin sighed, taking out his data terminal from his pocket. After successfully activating it, he found the mission details that Raven 12345 had given him before. "We leave the day after tomorrow. The destination is nearly a whole day's journey from London, even if we take the highway. So tomorrow's main task is to figure out the roadmap and understand where this place called 'Yofolde' is. Raven 12345 said something about testing newcomers... Is this how you test someone? At least give a more precise map!"
"Yofolde... It's not even on the map," Lily, who was now fully awake, crawled beside and curiously watched the projection displayed on the data terminal. "Hey landlord, haven't we eaten lunch yet?"
Kevin looked outside at the sky: "It should be breakfast... Around breakfast time. We'll eat downstairs later. Also, don't call me landlord when we're outside. Just call me by my name, otherwise it sounds weird."
"Okay landlord, got it landlord."
Kevin: "..."
Weilili first eagerly walked around the various rooms of the suite, and even specifically visited the bathroom. Only then did she return with an even more bumpkin-like demeanor than Kevin's. She glanced at the holographic image floating in front of Kevin and reminded him, "Didn't you say you needed to report to that Raven? See if you can find out more details."
"Oh yeah, almost forgot about that," Kevin slapped his forehead and then, using the method he remembered, pinched one edge of the data terminal, searching hard for Raven 12345's communication channel in his mind. "I hope she's at work today. That guy isn't reliable very often."
This time, Raven 12345 finally didn't continue to frustrate Kevin: the holographic projection above the data terminal flickered a few times, and the beautiful woman with stunning silver hair appeared in front of Kevin: "What's up?"
"I've arrived in England," Kevin said with a strange expression, as he noticed that the background behind Raven 12345 was clearly outer space. "Where are you?"
"England? What are you doing there... Oh right, I remember now, I asked you to pick someone up. How's it going?"
"Not so good," Kevin couldn't even bother to investigate the huge flash resembling an explosion behind Raven 12345. "Weilili messed up, and Lily was sleeping like a dead dog just a few minutes ago. The 'Yofolde' you told me about doesn't even exist on the British map, and... None of us three can speak English. You know, for a classified mission like ours, it's not advisable to casually find a local as a translator, right? What if they discover abnormal creatures?"
"Can't speak English? Is that all?" Raven 12345's mouth didn't move when she spoke, but her voice came out of the screen. Obviously, being in space, she was using some other method to converse with Kevin. At this moment, a bright flash appeared in the background of the holographic image. Raven 12345 turned her head and threw a dazzling blue-white light ball, then turned back. "I told you to properly study your data terminal. Why don't you ever listen? Go into the app list and find the translation program."
Kevin watched Raven 12345 throwing spherical lightning in space, becoming increasingly curious about what she was actually doing. But he still focused on answering his own question: "I did look for a translation program, but it's either some xx star language or an xx universal cosmic dictionary. I figured it would be more than enough even for a trip to another world, but there's nothing usable on Earth..."
Raven 12345 hesitated for a moment, then patted her head. "Hey, I installed the wrong one... You know I don't really understand this tech stuff. I'll have someone knowledgeable send you a proper translation program later. I'll take care of this guy here first, it'll be quick."
As Raven 12345 spoke, she turned her head and threw out a bright blue "electric arc". Kevin couldn't tell the exact scale of the electric arc on the holographic projection, but he saw that it almost occupied the entire screen in an instant. He was extremely surprised: "What exactly are you doing, old lady? It looks so lively!"
"Oh, cleaning up the room," Raven casually said. "A bunch of crazy guys feel like their fate is tough and are preparing to destroy the world. They've even created mathematical rate weapons. I have to clean them up before they hurt anyone else..."
As Raven 12345 spoke, Kevin saw a huge, mountain-like wreckage wrapped in blue flames slowly gliding through space in the background. As it flew, it disintegrated, and a large number of small spaceship-like objects detached from the wreckage, but without exception, they were all turned into fragments by blue beams coming from somewhere unknown.
Immediately, Kevin knew that this question couldn't be pursued any further. What Raven 12345 was doing was obviously not very harmonious...
"Alright, where were we just now?" Raven 12345's voice brought Kevin back from his daze. "Oh yeah, I'll upload a new translation program for you. Sigh, you guys who haven't been formalized are just troublesome. It'll be better after you're formalized. Things like translation systems can be directly implanted into your spiritual world, so you'll have Chinese translation everywhere you go."
