Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Rukawa Kaede Fully Overpowered

As Aoi Kunisaku and Rukawa Kaede were about to face off in a one-on-one match, three girls wearing Shohoku uniforms entered through the gymnasium doors.

Due to their positioning, Ayako and Shimizu Kanon noticed them immediately.

The two of them turned their gaze toward the entrance.

"It's you guys!" Ayako greeted them first.

The three girls at the door replied in unison, "Ayako-san!"

Shimizu Kanon glanced at the three girls.

Before joining the Shohoku basketball team, she had done some research.

She immediately recalled the names of the three girls standing before her.

Among the three, the most striking one was the girl in the center. She had long, black hair, fair skin like jade, and a very sweet appearance. Her straight nose and bright, watery eyes were like stars, exuding the unique youth and vitality of her age.

This girl was Akagi Haruko.

She was also the captain of the Shohoku basketball team and the younger sister of Akagi Takenori.

Standing beside Akagi Haruko were her two best friends.

To the left was a girl with short black hair, wearing a red hairpin. Although she wasn't as sweet and cute as Akagi Haruko, she had a quiet and unique aura.

She was Fujii, one of Akagi Haruko's best friends.

On Akagi Haruko's right was another of her close friends.

This girl had orange hair, styled in pigtails, quite different from the other two.

Her appearance was remarkably similar to Akagi Takenori's, especially her lips, which were exactly like his.

If one didn't know better, they might mistake her for Akagi Takenori's younger sister.

This girl was Matsui, another of Akagi Haruko's friends.

Akagi Haruko and her friends quickly noticed Shimizu Kanon standing next to Ayako.

Ayako greeted her warmly, "I heard from my brother that a new manager has joined the basketball team, it must be you! Hi, I'm Akagi Haruko."

Shimizu Kanon smiled back and replied, "Hi, I'm Shimizu Kanon. Just call me Kanon from now on."

"Oh? Are you guys having a match?" Akagi Haruko asked, noticing Aoi Kunisaku and Rukawa Kaede facing off.

Ayako explained, "It's not a match! It's a one-on-one between Rukawa Kaede and Aoi Kunisaku. We're at a crucial moment now!"

"Ah? A one-on-one? With Rukawa Kaede?" Akagi Haruko was startled.

Rukawa Kaede was her dream man.

She wanted to see who was daring enough to face him one-on-one.

She quickly looked toward the court and saw the two figures standing there, full of confidence.

One of them was familiar to her—her beloved Rukawa Kaede.

The other one, however, was a stranger she hadn't seen before.

"Who's the one facing off against Rukawa Kaede?" Akagi Haruko asked reflexively.

Ayako explained, "You're talking about Aoi Kunisaku, right? He's a new student this year, just like Kanon."

"Ah?" Akagi Haruko blinked, "I see!"

But now, she was more concerned about the match. "How's it going? Who's winning?"

Upon hearing Akagi Haruko's question, Ayako answered, "It's not over yet! But right now, Rukawa Kaede is at a disadvantage!"

"What?" Akagi Haruko's eyes widened in disbelief.

Rukawa Kaede was at a disadvantage?

Rukawa Kaede was the MVP of middle school, called the super rookie by the media.

For someone like him to be at a disadvantage...

How strong must Aoi Kunisaku be?

Her gaze subconsciously moved toward Aoi Kunisaku.

What she saw was his handsome face, his unique green hair, and green eyes.

However, his lazy, careless posture made her feel confused.

Could someone like him really suppress Rukawa Kaede?

But the next moment, her eyes nearly popped out.

On the court, the two who had been locked in a standoff began to move.

Rukawa Kaede dribbled the ball back and forth, trying to mess with Aoi Kunisaku's judgment.

But Aoi Kunisaku stood still, unfazed.

Rukawa Kaede furrowed his brows, but his movements didn't stop.

With a quick step, he made a sharp turn, attacking Aoi Kunisaku's right side with lightning speed.

So fast.

Akagi Haruko felt her heart race, blood pumping in her veins.

But in the next moment, the excitement inside her cooled instantly.

On the court, Rukawa Kaede, who had seemed about to break through, suddenly stopped.

He was blocked completely by Aoi Kunisaku, with no opening to break through.

Rukawa Kaede's eyes darkened, gritting his teeth, and made a quick spin to try another break toward Aoi Kunisaku's left side.

But once again, Aoi Kunisaku was right in front of him, blocking his path.

Over the next few moments, Rukawa Kaede tried various ways to break through.

Fake moves, sudden stops, switching hands, posting up—every method and deceptive move he tried ended in failure.

Watching this unfold, Akagi Haruko was stunned. "How is this possible... he can't break through."

It was the first time she had seen Rukawa Kaede so thoroughly suppressed.

And even more shocking, it was happening so completely.

Slap...

A loud sound of the ball being slapped echoed in the gym.

On the court, Rukawa Kaede's ball was once again stolen by Aoi Kunisaku.

The others had already gotten used to seeing such plays, but Akagi Haruko and her friends were once again stunned.

Rukawa Kaede had been stolen from.

Akagi Haruko's eyes were filled with disbelief.

Aoi Kunisaku didn't pay attention to the reactions of those watching outside.

After stealing the ball, he didn't waste any time and made a quick spin, jumping and aiming straight at the basket.

Seeing this, Rukawa Kaede, who was preparing to defend, was shocked.

He didn't expect Aoi Kunisaku to act so decisively.

He quickly jumped, reaching out to block, but it was too late.

Aoi Kunisaku had already released the ball from his hands.

Just then, another basketball suddenly appeared, and by sheer coincidence, it hit Aoi Kunisaku's ball.

The sudden change stunned everyone.

No one had expected the situation to turn out like this.

"Hahaha..."

From a distance, Sakuragi Hanamichi crossed his arms, laughing loudly, "Got it! Missed the shot, right? Idiot, trying to steal my spotlight, dream on!"

"Sakuragi..." Akagi Haruko gasped, covering her mouth in disbelief.

The people around her all had sweatdroplets on their faces.

Kogure Kuniyuki also rubbed his forehead, unsure of what to say.

Especially Akagi Takenori, whose forehead was throbbing with veins. "That damn guy."

Ayako sighed, shaking her head. "That guy is at it again."

Shimizu Kanon, however, remained calm, unphased by the unexpected scene.

She had complete confidence in Aoi Kunisaku.

This kind of unexpected moment wouldn't phase him at all.

And sure enough...

On the court.

As soon as Aoi Kunisaku noticed the ball being hit by the other ball, he quickly reacted.

He dropped his body low, like a scale weight, and then jumped back up as soon as his feet hit the ground.

With both arms outstretched, he grabbed both balls in mid-air, tossing them one after the other toward the basket.

The crowd watched in utter confusion, their eyes wide with disbelief.

Both basketballs hit the backboard at the same time.

The first ball went cleanly into the net.

The second ball spun around the rim before falling in as well.

The entire gym fell silent.
