Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The Unbelievable Feat with Whirling Slash
"Third-floor warehouse… Second-floor offices… Badminton court…"With the key in hand, Alexander searched around—and what a serendipitous find! With this key, he could bypass the noisy door-smashing routine, reducing the risk of attracting extra zombies. He silently thanked the unfortunate zombie for this unexpected bonus.
"Back left door," he read from a label on the key.Found it!
Soon, from inside the ping-pong hall, the sounds "hrrm… hrrmm…" echoed as a dozen zombies began to wander slowly. As night drew near, the zombies grew more active. A soft "crack" sounded—a wooden door opening.Alexander bent low and carefully slipped into the ping-pong hall. He crawled under the table nearest the door, using the limited space for cover.
He counted softly, "One, two, three…" and discovered there were exactly 17 zombies. The number prickled at his nerves; these zombies, by attribute, were roughly on par with him—ordinary folks would have to give their all to dispatch just one. But Alexander was confident he could handle them. Moreover, with the hall's door closed, as long as he kept his movements quiet, no outsiders would join the fray. And with the ping-pong tables only modest in height, he could maneuver between them with ease.
Glancing at his experience bar, he noted he needed 4 more XP to hit Level 5. Since a Level 2 zombie provided 2 XP apiece, eliminating two would secure his level-up—and then he could employ hit-and-run tactics on the remaining 15.
Sure enough, he soon spotted a zombie heading his way. "This is it!" he thought.Quickly, Alexander predicted its trajectory and pace, tensing like a coiled snake as he waited silently. When the zombie's foot landed exactly where he'd anticipated, he sprang into action.Crawling out from under the table, he stood and, with pinpoint precision, swung his Tang Blade in a clean arc across the zombie's neck. In an instant, the creature was decapitated—its headless body flashing the word "DEATH" before collapsing.
So fluid was his motion that the other zombies remained unaware. He swiftly crawled under another table for cover.
Then came a cacophony—"BOOM," "THUD"—as zombie bodies and heads collided with tables and the hard floor. The noise drew the attention of the other zombies, and in an instant, a chaotic chorus of shuffling footsteps, impacts against tables, and clanging metal filled the hall.
Fortunately, the gym's floor had been fitted with anti-slip, sound-absorbing plastic, and the room's closed doors provided ample sound insulation—so the commotion did not alert the zombies outside.
When Alexander noticed that near the fallen zombie, three pairs of feet had gathered, he decisively swung his Tang Blade at the zombie's ankle. The combined force of his blade and strength severed three of its legs at the ankle in a single blow. One zombie, now without both feet, collapsed; another, missing one foot, staggered and fell.
At that moment, Alexander's position was exposed. He emerged from under the table and, ignoring the others momentarily, attacked the uninjured zombie on the far right. Though the creature's body was tough enough to resist one slash, it did not fall. Alexander decided not to press the attack further on that one. Instead, he quickly ducked to avoid a lunge from behind, grabbed the footless zombie, and hurled it as a makeshift barrier toward the charging horde. The startled zombies collided with the thrown body—three or four fell simultaneously.
Then, Alexander swung his Tang Blade once more, decapitating a struggling zombie that had lost one foot. [Congratulations to player "Yazī" for killing a Level 2 zombie, earning 2 XP and 3 coins] [Congratulations, you have reached Level 5 and earned 1 free attribute point] [Player "Yazī" now needs 100 XP for the next level]
From Level 5 onward, XP requirements would soar. Unperturbed, Alexander allocated his free attribute point to Agility. With a graceful jump, he leaped onto a ping-pong table. All around him, zombies in the hall advanced relentlessly. The ones he'd previously knocked down were already getting back on their feet—only one footless zombie still crawled.
From his elevated perch, Alexander had a wide view. His mind raced as his years of combat experience allowed him to calculate the optimal angle. "Whirling Slash," he murmured.
He hurled his Tang Blade, which spun in the air, leaving behind a dazzling cyan streak. The blade's arc cut across a zombie's neck. Immediately, another charging zombie—precisely predicted by Alexander's instincts—stepped forward and collided with the blade's path. Two black "DEATH" signs flashed. And that wasn't all—the Tang Blade, after reaching its maximum spin, arced back perfectly toward Alexander. He had already anticipated its trajectory! A zombie charging from behind was sliced at the back of the neck by the returning blade, ending its life instantly. Alexander caught the blade with ease.
That single "Whirling Slash" had taken out three zombies—a maneuver born not of a simple skill, but of a decade's worth of survival instinct: precise control over the blade's release angle, an intimate understanding of its flight path, and a flawless prediction of the zombies' steps and movements.Under his mask, Alexander's expression remained as calm as still water.
In one minute, facing 17 zombies, he had dispatched 5—an effortless feat for him. Now only 12 free-moving zombies remained in the hall, plus one stubborn footless crawler. With the two closest zombies nearly grabbing his calves, Alexander kicked off with his right foot, leaned forward, and took a giant leap—landing on a ping-pong table across the hall. The two zombies that had been lunging for his original position missed him entirely and slammed hard into the solid table, letting out disgruntled roars.
