Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy

Chapter 997: The Corpses

Vale leaned forward at this point, his fingers steepling under his chin.

"Interesting… Soul imprint intact?" he mused.

Thankfully, they had removed the excessive seals this time. Thanks to that, he could finally use his own Divine Sense and other detection abilities to assess the bodies.

As a matter of fact, the Auctioneer also wanted everyone to investigate the nine corpses using their own abilities. They believed that this would also help them increase the price of the bodies…

After a few moments, Vale's interest landed on the third, seventh, and ninth bodies of the immortals.

Although he wanted all of them, he knew that getting all of these corpses would cause a lot of trouble for him, even if he had enough money…

"I just hope that the prices would be so exaggerated…" he whispered.

He wasn't sure how rare these corpses were, but since they were in a large realm with numerous Immortals, unlike the human realm, Vale believed that there shouldn't be a fierce competition…

Vale then looked around and confirmed that most of the Immortals, whom he couldn't fathom their strength were showing interest in the corpse.

They definitely have unimaginable wealth. After all, this realm existed for an uncountable number of years, and it wouldn't be surprising if the immortals in this hall had lived for a thousand.

During that time, they had definitely accumulated numerous Divine Crystals, and it would be difficult to compete against them.

Vale couldn't help but make a choice. After all, even if he planned to get as much as he could, he might have to bid only on one corpse…

Of course, there was also an option to observe, follow the buyer later, and steal it under the table. But that came with other complications.

As the announcer began calling out bids for each individual corpse, the auction hall turned chaotic as the announcer started with the ninth corpse…

"Immortal Corpse 9… Opening Bid: 500,000 Arcane Crystals and 1,000 Divine Crystals."

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

Several glowing symbols flared across distant booths—private markers of VIPs casting their bids…

It continued to rise from 2,000 to 3,000 Divine Crystals, aside from the 500,000 Arcane Crystals, in just a few seconds.

However, one of VIPs didn't even bother using a proxy as a powerful voice filled with strong Divinity, echoed across the room…

"7,000 Divine Crystals."

Vale's brows twitched.

That… was insane. He already knew how slow the Immortals here could produce Divinity. They were unlike him, who could easily extract them after all.

Just a thousand Divine Crystals could already put them into a decade or two of work.

Someone still tried to fight it over, but the price just increased by another thousand.

So, just like that, the corpse was claimed for 500,000 Arcane Crystals and 8,000 Divine Crystals. No one dared to challenge the bid anymore. Not even other hidden powerhouses.

'Is it because of his identity? I wonder who that guy was.' Vale mused.

Although he could also challenge the bidder with his wealth, he decided not to do it yet since the 9th corpse wasn't his best selection anyway.

'That Divinity a while ago was also too strong… It must be from a High Immortal or something…' Vale mused…

Still, he didn't panic. He wasn't here to win every corpse. He was here to find value in what others couldn't see.

Soon, it was the seventh corpse's turn.

The announcer's voice was calmer this time. Less theatrical as she knew that this corpse was the one with the worst Divinity or source of energy fluctuations.

"Immortal Corpse #7… Opening bid: 340,000 Arcane Crystals and 1,000 Divine Crystals."

There was a moment of silence.

Vale watched as several divine senses extended from the booths, sweeping across the corpse once again... Then, one by one, they retracted. They confirmed that it wasn't too valuable and they were willing to give it to others…

Soon, the bidding started, and the increment was slow…

After all, everyone had the same concern…

"There's already internal decay…"

"The Core was completely shattered…"

"No spirit imprint left."

"Nothing but junk. But it can be used for research purposes, I guess…"

Vale kept his expression unreadable as he extended his own Divine Sense once again.

The rot was real. The body was missing key internal organs. And there was no divine core—or at least, not one that anyone could detect.

But Vale's could already tell that it wasn't as simple as that…

'Is this thing cursed by a Death God too?' He mused… He couldn't help but remember his experience when the Death God tried to possess his body.

Vale didn't fully understand what he could find in this body, but he trusted his instincts. Something deep within this corpse was still very much extractable.

And no one else could see it.

At this time, Vale finally decided to join the bidding war.

It was currently 2,850 Divine Crystals…

"Three thousand and fifty Divine Crystals."

The auctioneer blinked.

"Confirmed bid from Booth 13. Three hundred forty thousand Arcane Crystals and three thousand and fifty Divine Crystals. Any other offers?"

Silence.

The other bidders had either spent too much or dismissed the corpse entirely.

"Going once… going twice… Sold!"

A soft chime rang out as the runes around Vale's booth glowed in confirmation. The corpse was his.

Vale leaned back in his seat, resisting the smirk on his lips.

Let them think it was worthless. Let them scoff. All the better.

He had no intention of correcting their assumptions.

Especially when he had other plans.

Soon, another glass casket rose from the platform—this one shrouded in layered preservation formations…

"Immortal Corpse #6… Opening bid: 300,000 Arcane Crystals and 1,000 Divine Crystals."

The moment the words were spoken, several fluctuations of divine energy rippled across the hall to have one more confirmation…

Unlike the previous corpse, this one had drawn attention.

And from the powerful Immortals…

Apparently, they believed that this Corpse with the strongest Divinity was the best among all the Corpses...

Among them, Vale confirmed the presence of those representatives who tried to recruit him a while ago.

They were Ilsera Dawnveil of Silver Quill Pavilion, and Commander Jurhan from Abyss Watch Guild were actually here!

Seeing them here, Vale couldn't help but search for Sabrina Hoffman… and as expected, she was also present.
