Chapter 87: Chapter 63.2 Echoes & Music (2)

//Vi PoV//

"Powder? Where are you going?" Vi asked, her confusion shifting to dismay as she watched Powder suddenly sprint back the way they had come.

Powder called back excitedly, "I'm going to get my net gun! I'll be back in a minute!"

"Why?!" Vi yelled, cupping her hands around her mouth. "Powder, please! We're going to miss it!"

Too late- she was already gone. Vi sighed, her conflicted eyes darting back toward the concert. Thankfully, Scratch hadn't started singing yet.

Groaning again, she folded her arms and leaned against a wall, waiting for her sister to return.

'Does she think she'll find him here?' Vi thought doubtfully, frustration bubbling inside her. Her grip tightened around her arms, her eyes still starting between the street and the concert. 'I can still hear it from here but... Ugh! She should be back in a few minutes at most.'

People were jumping and cheering all around, bumping into each other and spilling drinks in merry uncontrollable excitement. Orion stood awkwardly, his annoyance growing, in the center of it all on the Undercity side. People kept knocking into him, prompting him to feel more annoyed than excited.

'They haven't even started...' Orion thought, his irritation deepening as he was shoved sideways again.

His eyes swept the crowd. It was divided cleanly in half- Piltover residents on one side, Undercity on the other. But both groups came with a purpose: to hear these two sing.

Suddenly, a deafening drumroll began, followed by a shrieking, yelling entrance that sent the crowd into a frenzy. The noise, the motion- it was absolute chaos.

If it wasn't bad before, now it felt like he was inside a pinball arcade machine.

'This probably would've been fun if I'd actually heard them sing before... or If I'd come with someone-' Orion's thoughts stopped mid-way, his eyes widening.

//Powder PoV//

'I definitely saw him!'

Powder's mind raced as she lunged for the bedframe, grabbing her net gun.

'Vi won't mind,' She thought, her heavy breathing as she sprinted out the door. 'Especially when she finds out I'm right! Her and Vander will have to buy me treats after this!'

She was confident in herself, confident in her thoughts. That blue hue behind the mask, his chuckling at Vi's actions, and not to mention the repeated, familiar gestures- it had to be Orion!

Or at least, she hoped it was.

Rounding a corner, Powder skidded to a halt, spotting Vi bouncing impatiently on her toes- a rare sight. Her sister showed eager, desperate impatience.

Powder tucked the net gun into her trousers, the oversized handle sticking out awkwardly. She smirked up to her sister.

"See? Just a minute!" Powder gloated, sweating and breathing heavily.

Vi rolled her eyes and muttered, "Yeah, whatever. Let's hurry! It's about to start!"

A painful knot had formed in her Powder's chest at Vi's dismissive tone.

'What if I'm right?' she wondered, the hurt spreading through her. 'Why doesn't she care?'

But another thought gnawed at her too. 'But what if I'm wrong?'

A different feeling, doubt, mixed into her thoughts. Powder's hands tightly gripped her pant legs. She could feel her heart rushing and head spinning again like before, taking in deep breaths to calm herself.

'No!' Powder shook her head. 'Now's not the time! Stay focused Powder!'

Powder smacked her cheeks and her expression tightened, resolve and determination settling in before chasing after her sister.

//Orion PoV//

Orion pretended to bounce and join in with the chaos, weaving through the crowds away from the approaching figures of Vi and Powder. They were also making their way excitedly toward the stage, their expressions alight with excitement. Both seemed drunk on the atmosphere, their emotions a crazed mix of elation and thrill.

Vi's gaze was locked onto the stage as she shouted, cheered, and bounced with the crowd, forcing her way closer. Powder was a little different, though.

Powder's eyes darted up with bubbling excitement at the stage, but every few seconds, her head would whip around.

In those brief moments, her eyes revealed yearning and desperation. Her eyebrows raised with a hopeful expression before being sucked back into the crowd and atmosphere.

'This is definitely a rollercoaster of emotions for her,' Orion observed, amused as the two separated slightly in the chaotic crowd.

Still trying to weave his way out, Orion noted that Vi was too absorbed on Scratch and the performance. She looked like a star-struck girl, forgetting everything around her.

'Fuck,' Orion cursed internally as the chaotic mayhem at the front forcibly shoved him back toward Vi and Powder.

Awkward.

Orion found himself bouncing up and down with the crowd directly in front of Vi. Her gaze locked onto his mask with a blank, confused expression- still bobbing and weaving to the music herself.

"Huh?" Vi's voice of disbelief cut through the chaotic atmosphere.

//Vi's PoV//

"Uh...truce?"

The ominous figure that had struck fear and uncertainty into her in the tunnels now stood before her. Except now, he looked awkward. Goofy.

His body jerked up and down with the music, completely out of sync.

"Is he trying to match the drums?'

Vi squinted, feeling certain that was the case. He was slightly offbeat, and it wasn't even the beat to be bouncing to right now! Scratch was in the middle of doing her iconic guitar riff, and this guy was still bouncing to the drums!

Scowling, she yelled through the roar of the music and crowd. "If you want a truce, at least do her music justice!"

She didn't feel like fighting right now. Actually, she felt a little intrigued- and amused. Compared to before, he felt completely harmless. Besides, this was Scratch's concert. The last place she wanted to start trouble, despite her usual tendencies.

"No, don't move like that! Move like this-"

Vi moved closer, exaggerating her movements in an attempt to show him better movements and be more in sync. He slowed down, his jerky movements adjusting slightly as he tried to follow her lead.

//Powder's PoV//

"AAAA!" Powder screamed hysterically in the crowd, her eyes locked onto Vi and the masked figure dancing together.

Her mouth hung open, stun-locked. Before she knew it, she was manically shoving her way through the crowd towards them. Powder ripped her net gun out, her gaze never leaving him.

"Hey, HEY! ORION!" Powder called desperately, prompting his head to turn slightly as she waved her gun wildly. "I KNEW IT!"

Vi, still caught up in the music, hadn't noticed. Her eyes were closed as she bounced and danced in place, directly in front of him. Powder's shouting didn't even register.

The masked figure's body visibly deflated, slumping amidst the chaos of the music. He kept a vague bounce to the beat but raised a finger to where his mouth would be- a clear hushing motion.

"AAAAAAAAAAA!"

Powder didn't care. She violently shoved through the last few people.

"HEY!"

"WATCH IT!"

When finally in range, Powder launched herself at him, embracing him tightly and dropping the net gun in the process.

All the tension, all the guilt that had been eating away at her came flooding out at once. She openly cried, her sobs muffled as she buried her face into his jacket and her tears staining his jacket.

"I didn't know! I was only trying to help! I'm sorry!"

Her grip tightened on him when she felt him move, as if letting go would mean losing him all over again.
