The port of Piltover was bustling with activity. Ships docked one after another, their gangplanks lowering to allow passengers from all corners of Runeterra to disembark. The newcomers gazed in awe at the City of Progress, their eyes wide with wonder.
"Is this Piltover?"
"Look, that's the Hexgate!"
"Ah, the air of Piltover—so free, so enchanting!"
Among the crowd, one young man stood out, though not for any remarkable reason. His curly hair, rough skin, and somewhat dull expression made him blend into the background. Unlike the others, he didn't join in the chorus of admiration. Instead, he stood quietly, clutching a rolled-up painting in his hand.
The painting depicted a silver-haired woman standing by a fireplace, her hand resting on the back of a sofa. She was smiling, radiant and captivating. The young man stared at her image, biting his lip.
"Uncle, I've made it to Piltover. I wonder if you can see this," he murmured to himself. "I'll deliver the painting you left behind to her... to Camille Ferros."
Meanwhile, in a workshop deep within the city, Link Star wiped the sweat from his brow with a towel hanging around his neck. He had just finished sorting through the materials he needed for his next project—a creation he called "Original Sin." To avoid any hiccups during the crafting process, he had meticulously prepared everything in advance.
"I never expected the Ferros family to have something like this," Link muttered, holding a thick, explosion-proof glass jar. Inside was a tiny shard of True Ice, no larger than a peanut. "True Ice from the Freljord... How did they even get their hands on this? And this preservation technology—it must be using petricite."
True Ice was no ordinary material. Even a fragment this small could freeze an entire river. An unprotected touch would turn a person into an ice statue in an instant.
"With this, the cooling system for Original Sin will be flawless. I can even incorporate a freezing breath attack," Link said, setting the jar aside. His workshop was filled with an array of materials, but his attention shifted to a nearby workbench cluttered with alchemical equipment—beakers, test tubes, and petri dishes.
"Before I begin, I need to make sure I'm prepared," Link said, tying a leather apron around his waist. He recalled a formula given to him by a version of Dr. Singed from another timeline—a potent concoction designed to sustain him through grueling work sessions.
For the next six days, Link poured himself into his project. His eyes were bloodshot, his voice hoarse from constant muttering. "Just one more step... the Möbius Drive. Once that's done, the first Original Sin will be complete."
He had barely slept, relying on the alchemical stimulants to keep him going. The formula allowed him to work for over twenty hours at a stretch, with only brief periods of deep sleep to recharge. But the toll was heavy. Once the project was finished, he would need to take a "zeroing" potion to reset his body, entering a hibernation-like state to recover from the accumulated exhaustion.
Finally, the day arrived. Link stood before a three-by-three section of the floor, covered in intricate runic equations. Unlike the rune combinations used by Jayce and Viktor, the equations Link employed were far more elegant and efficient. They were like mathematical formulas, allowing him to predict and control the outcomes with precision.
"Containment equations—stable. Induction equations—stable. Catalysis equations—stable. Control equations—stable. Pathway equations—stable."
One by one, Link checked each component of the runic array. Satisfied, he placed an Arcane Crystal into the central slot. "All preparations complete. Time to release the rune."
He opened a dimensional mailbox, retrieving a sealed Wild Rune. Taking a deep breath, he began the countdown. "Rune release in 3... 2... 1... Release!"
The moment the Wild Rune appeared, it began to writhe and expand uncontrollably. Link's mouth filled with a bitter, metallic taste as he activated the runic equations. The Arcane Crystal glowed, its energy channeled into the array. Beams of light spiraled upward, forming a cage around the rune.
"Containment field stable. Now, open the link and guide the rune into the crystal to form the core of the Möbius Drive."
A pathway of light emerged from the crystal, and the Wild Rune surged into it. A blinding flash filled the workshop, forcing Link to shield his eyes. When the light faded, the Arcane Crystal floated weightlessly in the air, its surface shimmering like a fragment of the cosmos.
"It's done," Link whispered, using a mechanical clamp to retrieve the crystal. He carried it to the center of the workshop, where a massive, blue-and-white mechanical dragon stood. The beast was three meters tall, its body crafted from the finest runic steel. Its veins pulsed with a special alchemical solution infused with petricite powder, and three Hextech gem matrices served as its heart. At the center of the matrices was a lotus-like device—the Möbius Drive.
Link inserted the Arcane Crystal into the drive and stepped back, watching as the dragon's chest sealed shut. The mechanical beast hung its head, its eyes dark and lifeless. It had all the components of a living being—flesh, blood, a heart, and even talent. But it lacked one crucial element: a soul.
Closing his eyes, Link focused his mind. After a long moment, he exhaled a cloud of dark golden particles. The particles drifted into the dragon's body as Link whispered, "Awaken, my firstborn. Awaken, the first of the Seven Deadly Sins. Awaken, Pride!"
The dragon's eyes flared to life, glowing with a dark golden light. It threw its head back and let out a deafening roar, the force of its voice shaking the workshop to its foundations.
"ROAR—!"
And so, Pride, the first of the Seven Deadly Sins, was born.
