Chapter 21: Chapter 21: This Doctor’s a Total Powerhouse!
"What... what the hell?! That's a water gun?!"
"The firepower is insane!"
"This guy actually pulled out a mass destruction weapon from his coat?!"
The Reunion members who had narrowly avoided the earlier blast by sheer luck stood frozen in disbelief.
They never expected the so-called Doctor to casually pull out a water gun that would instantly wipe out several of their teammates.
Worse yet, the thick slime blasted from the weapon was now coating the ground and sticking to the Reunion soldiers, making them flail like rats stuck to glue traps. Movement was almost impossible.
After witnessing firsthand how terrifying the Doctor's slime blaster was, the rest of the Reunion soldiers were too scared to make the first move.
"We've got numbers on our side! Don't panic! Listen to my command and we'll kill this guy!"
One of them, seemingly the squad leader, raised his voice to rally the troops.
"Crossbowmen! All of you, fire together! Take him out from a distance!"
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The moment he gave the order, over a dozen arrows shot from all directions toward Jay and Misha.
"Ahhh! Aaaaahhhh!"
Misha screamed in terror and instinctively crouched down, hugging her head.
Jay simply smiled and patted her shoulder.
"Misha, don't be afraid. As long as you're behind me, you're perfectly safe."
One heavy arrow slammed against the translucent jade barrier around Jay. The next moment, it bounced right off like a ricocheted bullet.
More arrows came flying, but not a single one could penetrate the indestructible shield. They all rebounded, clattering harmlessly to the ground.
Jay stood firm, shielding Misha behind him like a battle-hardened war god.
"Wh… What?! This Doctor knows how to use defensive Originium Arts?!"
"Good grief… Who is this guy really?!"
Some of the Reunion soldiers had seen leaders like Talulah or the defector Mudrock use similar Arts. But never in their wildest dreams did they imagine this seemingly fragile Doctor could use such high-level protection too.
Granted, Jay had already used his Jade Barrier once back in Chernobog while confronting Talulah. But to cover up that embarrassing defeat, Talulah had ordered all the nearby Reunion witnesses wiped out, so no one else knew Jay could do this.
"Damn it… What do we do now?"
"We can't kill him, and his weapon is a nightmare! How are we supposed to fight that?!"
"Isn't it obvious? We charge him anyway! If we can't capture Misha, Skullshatterer will have our heads! So move!"
"Oh, screw you! Why don't you go first?!"
Vrrrrrr…
The whirring growl of Jay's slime blaster cut through their bickering like a buzzsaw.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you charging anymore? If you won't come to me, I'll come to you. I'm dying to cut loose!"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Jet after jet of high-pressure slime exploded from the barrel, slamming into the Reunion soldiers with explosive force.
"DIE! DIE! DIE!"
Just moments ago, Jay was completely surrounded by enemies. Now, the tide had turned in an instant.
A crossbowman hiding behind a broken window was blown away, blaster and wall both gone in one shot. Another soldier on the street was launched skyward like a ragdoll.
The battlefield descended into chaos.
"S-Stay back!"
"Run! Everyone run!"
"Call Skullshatterer! He's the only one who can handle this lunatic!"
All the remaining Reunion soldiers turned tail and ran like their lives depended on it.
"Th-This Doctor is incredible… but also terrifying…"
Watching Jay single-handedly annihilate dozens of enemies left Misha utterly shaken.
"Hey, Bunny, what did Texas say about how many Reunion members were in the area?"
While running downstairs, Franka asked Amiya beside her.
"About fifty or more, including several crossbowmen."
"Oh ho! Then this is my chance to show off the full power of my thermite blade! If I impress the Doctor enough, maybe he'll start mentoring me more~ Or who knows… fall for me~"
"Franka, this isn't the time for that kind of joke! If we don't hurry, the Doctor might get, Huh?"
By the time Amiya, Franka, and Liskarm reached the ground floor, the scene that greeted them stunned them speechless.
All the Reunion members who were supposed to be ambushing the Doctor had already been scattered like trash, driven off by some bizarre-looking water gun.
"Liskarm, this Doctor is way too strong!"
"Yeah… Looks like you'll have to wait for another chance to show off," Liskarm muttered.
Amiya quickly ran up to Jay and Misha.
"Doctor! Are you and Misha alright?"
"I'm fine. Though honestly, if those cowards hadn't run so fast, I'd be even better."
Jay gently guided Misha, who had been hiding behind him, over to Amiya.
"Misha's safe too."
Amiya smiled and gave a small wave to the nervous girl.
"Hello, Misha. I'm Amiya. The Doctor and I are both from Rhodes Island."
Hearing that Amiya was with the Doctor finally helped Misha lower her guard.
Amiya then noticed the signs of acute Oripathy on Misha. But when Jay told her he'd already administered treatment, she let out a small sigh of relief.
Still, acute Oripathy was volatile. Even minor triggers could cause it to flare back up.
"Misha, let's go. We'll take you somewhere safe."
Seeing that Misha was stable for now, Amiya extended her hand gently.
"Why… why are you saving me? Where are you taking me?"
"We're under orders from Officer Ch'en to escort you to the Lungmen Guard Department."
"So it really is that…"
Misha's expression darkened the moment she heard where they were going.
"I… I'm scared. I don't want to go there…"
"Misha, Lungmen won't hurt you. I promise."
Amiya quickly tried to calm her down.
Franka stepped up as well, casually tossing in her own playful warning.
"Kiddo, you need to understand… if we really wanted to hurt you, there's no way you'd get away from us~ You don't want to be dragged off all tied up, do you~?"
Her words immediately brought Misha's mind back to Jay utterly wrecking the Reunion troops earlier.
With his strength, a little girl like her really had no chance of escaping.
"F-Fine… I'll go. I'll do whatever you say…"
After some coaxing, Misha finally agreed to leave with Amiya and the team.
No matter what, staying here wasn't safe. Reunion had already infiltrated the slums, and danger was spreading rapidly.
"Yoo-hoo! Everyone~!"
Just as they were preparing to leave the street, a cheerful voice echoed from up high.
"I missed you all sooo much!"
