Chapter 104: Chapter 103 – Echoes Beneath the Sand
Chapter 103 – Echoes Beneath the Sand
The late afternoon sun filtered through the tall windows of the Hokage Tower, painting golden lines across Tsunade's office. Scrolls were scattered across the desk, half-open reports and intercepted communiqués, but the real weight in the room wasn't paper.
It was her expression.
Tsunade looked up as the door opened with a soft hiss. Hajime stepped in, towering even without his armor, casting a long shadow across the polished floor. His silver-grey eyes scanned the room once, then settled on her. There was no hesitation in his stride, just purpose.
She met his gaze, something unreadable in hers. "You're here."
Hajime tilted his head. "You called."
Tsunade stood and stepped around the desk, barefoot on the wood, her expression serious. The affection between them was unspoken, but present in every subtle movement. "A team's gone missing."
He paused. "Who?"
"Team Seven, Naruto, Sakura, Yamato... and Sai."
Hajime blinked. "Sai?"
"One of the former Root. After Danzō's execution, we reviewed all the surviving operatives. Sai passed full clearance. His conditioning was broken, and he's been functioning as a normal shinobi ever since. I assigned Yamato to lead them as kakashi is on another mission... but something's gone wrong."
Hajime crossed his arms, gaze sharpening. "What was the mission?"
She sighed, rubbing her temple. "They were sent after a missing-nin named Mukade. A sand shinobi turned rogue. He was spotted in the western desert, what's left of the city of Rōran."
His brow lifted slightly. "Rōran?"
Tsunade nodded. "A ruin now, but once a thriving city. Some records say it had a chakra network unlike anything else in the world... before it collapsed. Mukade went looking for remnants, and the team went after him. That was three days ago. Their last contact was just outside the ruins."
A long silence passed.
Hajime looked toward the window.
"…I'll go."
Tsunade frowned, stepping closer. "Okay but becareful."
"You didn't need to, as there are no enemies stronger than me." Hajime replied, already turning toward the door. "I'm... concerned. Especially about Sakura."
Tsunade didn't stop him. But as he reached the door, her voice followed him softly.
"Be careful."
He paused, just long enough to glance back at her. "I always am."
The walk to the lower levels of the tower was quiet. Beneath layers of stone and chakra-inscribed steel, the psychic seals guarding Hajime's lab shifted and parted, allowing him through.
Inside, the sanctum was unchanged.
His armor stood in the center of the main platform, sleek and silver, etched with flames along the pauldrons, wings and skulls on the chestplate as a tribute to the Grey Knights etched deep within his ancestral memory. Each symbol was exacting, reverent. His work, completed with no hammer, no forge, only thought, only will. Psychic constructs shaped metal as fluidly as fire, and he was the mind behind it all.
He moved with ease, locking the components into place over his body. His Black Carapace responded instantly, syncing with the armor through the nerve-ports along his spine and chest. The suit clamped around him with perfect unity, his limbs encased in adamantine and chakra-metal weave. His movement was unrestricted, silent despite its mass.
Next, the backpack unit:Life Support Systems sealed in, rebreathers, internal oxygen tanks, and a full thermal regulator. The Auto-Senses Processor linked directly to his helmet HUD and vision overlays.Gyro-Stabilizers hummed to life, prepping balance control and impact compensation. The Vox Unit synced with Konoha's command channels, long-range and encrypted. Finally, the Energy Distribution Lattice activated, harmonizing movement and power flow across his limbs and weapons.
From the adjacent vault, Hajime retrieved his weapons.
First, the psychic bolter. Compact and built to channel his mental power into explosive force. Each shot didn't require bullets, the ammunition was drawn directly from his mind. Each round was a thought weaponized.
Second, the chakra-forged chainsword, its blade lined with chakra-reactive teeth. He gripped the handle, feeding a thread of chakra into it. The blade respondedLightning surged through it, accelerating the rotation, crackling with piercing force.Fire ignited in bursts across its edge, each tooth leaving a faint trail of embers.Wind honed its edges to an unnatural sharpness.Water let it move with fluid grace, clean and cold.Earth lent it unstoppable weight, crashing through resistance. Each nature flowed easily, naturally. The weapon was an extension of him.
Lastly, he took his Nemesis Force Halberd, now resting upon a silver rack. The head pulsed faintly. Though unused for some time, it hummed like it sensed what was to come.
He moved to the center of the lab. Beneath him, etched into the floor, was a wide psychic map lattice he'd constructed long ago. From here, he could perceive the world beyond the surface. His eyes closed. Thought expanded.
He searched the sands to the west.
Past the Wind Country. Beyond dunes and buried rock. Past memories of a city fallen long before even Konoha stood.
ThenThere.
He found it.
Beneath the ruins of Rōran, a great power slept. Not natural. Not chakra alone. A massive, humming presence, machine and chakra fused. He could feel Naruto's presence, weak, but alive. Sakura too. Their chakras were tangled in something far older than any jutsu.
Hajime opened his eyes.
He did not hesitate.
A shimmer of psychic warping enveloped him, and in an instant, he was gone.
Far across the desert, the ruins of Rōran slumbered.
But something beneath them stirred. A pulse from an age long buried.... awakening.
And into that silence came thunder.
Steel-clad.
Armed.
Hajime had arrived.
(Zander:Now you know where hajime will learn the ability to travel in time and space)
