Chapter 132: Chapter 132: When Homelander Knocks
[T/N: Check a notice at the end]
High atop the clouds, Homelander stood like an omnipotent god, watching as the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier disintegrated into fragments. He observed Thor, Iron Man, and others scrambling to save themselves. As the larger and smaller pieces of the Helicarrier plummeted to the ground, igniting flames and scattering debris, Homelander, holding Loki's scepter, transformed into a high-speed comet, vanishing into the sky.
The stage of battle was shifting to New York, but Homelander wasn't in a hurry to join the fray.
Holding Loki's scepter, he flew over the ocean, searching for an uninhabited island. When he landed, the disturbance sent a flock of forest birds into the air.
This deserted island was lush with vegetation, free of any human presence—an ideal location.
Homelander intended to conduct an experiment.
He knew that in the Marvel Universe, these mysterious Infinity Stones could grant extraordinary powers.
Take the Scarlet Witch, for instance—her powers originated from the Mind Stone. Captain Marvel's abilities stemmed from the Tesseract.
Now, with Loki's scepter in hand, Homelander understood that the gem embedded in the scepter housed none other than the Mind Stone itself.
If he could activate the Mind Stone's power, it might grant him new abilities or talents.
Power, after all, was like money—one could never have too much.
Even though Homelander felt he was already immensely strong, capable of going toe-to-toe with Superman and utterly overwhelming Marvel's Phase One heroes, he wasn't content.
Because what about the future?
Even within the Marvel Universe, entities like the Celestials were just the tip of the iceberg. And beyond, in the vast multiverse, countless formidable beings existed.
Homelander would not allow himself to stagnate.
To dominate the multiverse, absolute power was essential.
Of course, activating the stone's energy posed risks. To maximize the stone's potential, a sealed, controlled environment would also be necessary.
For the former, Homelander relied on his Justice Cloak, which granted him a one-time immunity to fatal damage—his safety net for this experiment.
As for the latter, creating a sealed environment was trivial. Homelander could easily deploy his bio-force field to construct an enclosed space.
After selecting a clearing, Homelander unleashed his bio-force field. It expanded around him, forming a ten-meter-diameter spherical space.
Immediately, faint, nearly imperceptible lines of energy appeared in the surrounding space. Most were invisible, but a few glimmered faintly, illuminated by the activated bio-force field.
Homelander now hovered in the center of a translucent sphere.
Raising Loki's scepter high, he adjusted the intensity of his heat vision before releasing twin golden beams.
The moment the heat vision struck the gem on the scepter, it began to glow. First, it emitted a serene azure light that rippled outward like water, creating wave after wave.
However, this wasn't the stone's true power.
Homelander increased the intensity of his heat vision, escalating the temperature:
1,000 degrees… 2,000… 6,000… 10,000 degrees!
At 10,000 degrees, the scepter began to vibrate violently. Then, with a resounding hum, a brilliant golden light surged from within the blue gem.
This was the true energy of the Mind Stone!
The raw power wasn't overwhelmingly turbulent but carried an indomitable force. It collided with Homelander's bio-force field, attempting to break through, only to be contained.
As the energy recoiled, it clashed with the incoming energy waves, causing a chaotic storm within the sphere—a result Homelander had anticipated.
As he had hoped, the stone's wild, destructive energy surged toward him. Spreading his arms wide, Homelander braced himself to receive it.
But as the energy waves struck his body, his Justice Cloak activated its own bio-force field. The energy splashed like water against this secondary barrier before retreating to clash with the other forces in the sphere. The cacophony of collisions filled the space with deafening roars.
Homelander's expression twisted. This wasn't what he'd planned.
He had hoped to use the Justice Cloak's immunity effect to test whether he could withstand the stone's transformation.
Instead, the cloak's barrier completely repelled the Mind Stone's energy, trapping it in a continuous cycle of collisions within the sphere.
Frustrated, Homelander halted the activation of the stone's power and opened a gap in his bio-force field.
The trapped energy found its escape route, erupting skyward as a golden torrent.
Once the energy had dissipated, Homelander gazed at the scepter in his hand. If he wanted to continue experimenting, he would need to set aside the Justice Cloak and rely solely on his own body to endure the stone's energy.
It would be a perilous move. The Mind Stone's power was notoriously volatile; a single misstep could leave him irreparably damaged.
"Wait…"
"What am I afraid of?"
"The Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel were ordinary humans when they absorbed energy from the stones."
"If they could survive it, why wouldn't I? My Kryptonian body is far superior to theirs. Surely, I can endure more."
Steeling himself, Homelander removed the Justice Cloak, gripping the scepter tightly.
"There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world."
"To gain great rewards, one must take great risks."
"Let's do this!"
His eyes lit up once more, firing golden beams that struck the scepter.
As the heat vision intensified, the gem on the scepter again released a golden light, filling the sphere with energy.
This time, without the protection of the Justice Cloak, Homelander faced the full brunt of the Mind Stone's power. The energy surged into him, penetrating every pore, flooding his flesh, bones, blood vessels, and even his very cells.
"ARGH!"
Homelander let out a tortured scream, his heat vision ceasing as the scepter fell to the ground.
The stone's energy, however, continued to pour out, forming tsunami-like waves that battered him relentlessly.
From his very DNA, changes began to occur. His genetic structure vibrated, creating new slots for additional sequences to embed themselves.
Yet the process was agonizing. His fingernails peeled away, his hair turned black, and his eyes felt as though they would burst from their sockets.
His consciousness fractured, splitting into countless voices that clamored in his mind:
> "Am I dying? No, I don't want to die!"
"Hahaha, serves you right for taking such a risk!"
"It's Sunday. Why am I here instead of gaming at home?"
"I want to conquer Wonder Woman in the DC Universe!"
"This is so boring. Maybe I should watch a movie instead."
"I'm too weak. I need to become stronger!"
"Enough! Everyone, shut up!"
Amid the chaos, one voice rose above the rest.
> "We're not dying here!"
"No games, no movies, no women—nothing if we die!"
"I am Homelander! I will not die like this!"
With a roar, Homelander's fractured consciousness coalesced into a singular will.
Opening his eyes, he absorbed the remaining energy in the sphere. The Mind Stone dimmed, its power spent.
Homelander's body had undergone a profound transformation.
